HAPPY TURKEY DAY!

Our family had it’s get together…the food was again very good…I made my favorite green bean casserole recipe you must make this one…try it,  it is not the one with the nasty Fake tasting onions from the can….It is a knock off of one of the best old time banquet halls here in WI…VanAbel’s of Holland town…now I don’t think this is it’s actual recipe….I am sure it is some family secret that you would have to be an undercover spy on a double top secret mission to snatch from them…but I must say…it is very, very close….I think maybe the difference is when someone else makes it, it alway seems to be better? But anyway it was great!   Here is the recipe…I should have taken a pic, but next time…Van Abel’s Green Beans

Here is the FREE PINCUSHION KIT & PATTERN you will receive when you make a purchase on Saturday November 27. If you would want an extra kit they will be $5 each.  Just a reminder…Primitive Gatherings is closed tomorrow, Friday so our employees can spend all their hard earned $$$ shopping black Friday…We will open at 8am on Saturday!  See you then…

Home for the Holidays-Blog Hop post…

Welcome to our Home for the Holidays Blog Hop!  I am lucky number seven in the hop and I can’t wait to show you what I have come up with for you, the previous girls are a tough act to follow…  Christmas has become my most favorite part of the year.  I think mostly because all of our traveling has come to an end and I can actually take a day here and there for myself and my family and not feel guilty about it…I love to decorate our home for Christmas.  Right after the last person leaves after Thanksgiving dinner, I pull out all the big red/green bins and start transforming the house.  I have already bought the tree for this year…it is standing in the garage just waiting and begging to come in…but Thanksgiving first, please…After the house is decorated, I start making the holiday treats…not right away but a few days later….I always send my favorite peanut clusters to all my friends…peanuts and dark chocolate…a girl can’t go wrong…I also make many batches of Irish Cream Whiskey  to give away…I say many because, they sometimes do not make it and we have to start over…they just vanish….Last year I found some pretty red bottles to put it in…I got most of them back with a note…please refill for next season…remember it is cold here in WI…..I make lots of different cookies for the holidays, but I have grown very fond of my Soft & Chewy Ginger Cookies…here is recipe…also the house smells so good while making these..

Soft & Chewy Ginger Cookies

It was hard to pick a project to share with you but after thinking awhile I came up with a cool cookie jar wrap to show off all these holiday cookies we are making!  It didn’t take long for those cookies to disappear, did it?  This is a simple wool “wrap” for your cookie jar.  The jar can be purchased for $5 at Wal-Mart.  Click the link here for the directions. Cookie Jar Wrap Directions I hope you can use this to proudly show off your wonderful cookies you exchange or make to give-a-way.  All the cookies so far have been wonderful!  I have been printing the recipes and projects and can’t wait to see what is next!  Here is few more holiday photos from the Bongean House….Thanks Stacy!  for putting this all together you have such wonderful ideas everyone is loving it!

We will have wool kits available for this project.  Threads are extra…please call or order online…

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!                                                                              Lisa & Nick Bongean

Plane Cancellation

The day my plane was supposed to leave for Houston, my flight was cancelled and I could not leave until the next day…Friday due to the back up of cancelled flights from the days before…remember the 60 mile winds? …well this would have been a problem, but we always set up our booth take pictures and so on…so while I was stranded at home…Nick was setting up the Houston Market booth…and he did a fine job  I must say…Luckily  market does not open til Saturday so when we arrived on Friday we had about an hours worth of “fluffing” the booth and everything was fine…Nick was very glad to see us…ok…where is this story going??? I did not tell anyone my flight was cancelled and stayed home all day…SEWING!…this is what I made, from start to finish….an Itty Bitty pinwheel…the blocks finish 1″ and the whole quilt is 10″…It takes 49 lights and 32 dark squares and a black border!  Everyone loved it at Market…so as soon as I got home we finished the pattern and now the templates are all ready to go!  The pattern includes the template and is $10 we are working on the kits yet…so look for the Itty Bitty Pinwheel on the site soon…Can you see it in our booth below?  This photo also gives you idea of how big the quilts are in “real life”…

Also while I was gone to Market/Festival…Miss Jess had put her whole Civil War Cronicals together…except the border…Indy…the cat really loves it…

Tina and I finally at Houston...look at that fine booth! Way to go Nick!

getting caught up…

Ok..today is Friday…i finally managed to go grocery shopping!  I have been home since Monday and have not a thing to eat in this house…the wash is almost caught up along with the pile of mail, meeting with staff and so on….back to working  out…i feel like slug after not doing much but walk to the convention center and stand in the booth for 9 hours!  But I survived and it was a great show!  Nick is off playing poker with the neighborhood guys and I am heading down to sew a few things…like work on my project for the blog hop!   It is so much fun to see what all the designers have come up with…and then the recipe is an added bonus…so I hope you are peeking and printing the free patterns!

Something new to my blog is an email subscription…click on the link at the bottom right and you will automatically be sent my latest post without having to visit my blog…so this might help those who say….How do I follow your blog?….well this will do it!

Here are a few photos of some customers quilts that they have sent me…I don’t know where they are from, but maybe they will let me know..Debbie’s photo was sent in an email and was quite small but you can still see her wonderful framed wool project……the big quilt is Sandy Jones 2nd version of  Vintage Nine Patch from our latest book Nine Patch Gatherings.  I love that she used “Holly” to make hers a Christmas quilt.  Here is what she says about her quilt:

Lisa—
Wanted to show you the quilt I just finished.
After making the Primitive Nine Patch quilt, I decided I wanted one for my bed for Xmas so 650 scrappy nine patches later here it is.
What made it even better was that I only used fabrics from my stash for the top and back!!  The whole bunch of nine patches were done scrappy and all the appliques are on scrappy strips.
Really think it needs more wool appliques but time was beginning to be a factor as I really want this on the bed this year.
Thanks for a great technique.
Sandy Jones
Remember I said the this book contained a cool method of making Nine Patches?  They are so fun you want to keep making them…This is Sandy’s second quilt.  Sandy must have taken my workshop in MO? maybe….GREAT JOB GIRLS AND THANKS FOR SHARING!
