So you are able to take both needles and scissors thru security ?? I’d love to know as I am taking a trip in a few weeks and I could get lots of stitching done too. What size scissors are acceptable ? or the little thread clippers ?
BTW your stitching looks beautiful…..have a great show in CA !!!
I wonder about this too. The security info on the TSA website says short scissors are ok but I’m worried that this might be up to the individual officer and I would hate to have my things thrown away. I’m guessing needles are ok. I’ve also read that thread cutters are not allowed if they can be taken apart and the blade gotten out. Does anyone have more info on this?
Cheryl: As a traveler from Oregon to Michigan, I take needles and small scissors (with a sheath over them) on the plane all the time. I also have a clover needle thread cutter that you cannot take apart. Check out the TSA prohibited or banned items before you go and you should be ok. If you don’t feel comfortable about it…take just one needle and some already cut threads so you won’t have to worry about it. Happy stitching on your trip.
Beautiful! I will be in New York next week and have some things ready to stitch when I have down time and I’m in my hotel room. It’s a good idea to sew while waiting for your next flight but I haven’t gotten there yet. You certainly inspire me though!

Oh, I’d love to see the rest of that project! Ever since I was young (many many years ago) I have always carried projects with me such as needlepoint, reading, crocheting, etc. Now that I discovered quilting that is my most favored project to carry along as well as a good book or quilting magazine.
Never knew anyone with so much ambition. 🙂 Wish you would come to Fargo.
I have taken those round antique looking thread cutters on planes before with no problems. Your stitching looks great. Looking forward to more photos!
You can use a nail clipper to cut threads. They should let you keep that. I wouldn’t take a chance on having my scissors confiscated. Can’t wait to see your whole project! Enjoy your trip.
I too wonder what scissors passed inspection as well as needles. I have had both confiscated as well as nail clippers and an 18 dollar tweezers! So what passes?

I too am surprised at the ability to use a needle and scissors in an airport setting. Who knew?? Good to know!
The blade of the scissors needs to be 4″ or less…domestic…unsure about international.

Happy stitching. Great way to use the time! I have used an empty dental floss container to cut threads at the airport. Clover also makes a Thread Cutter Pendant that looks like a necklace. (Art No.454) No ones the wiser!! Just got it for Christmas.
I couldn’t be more exited if I was boarding the airplane myself! Oh wait… yes I can. I’ll be joining you in Utah! I’m driving my family crazy with all the excitement. I’m coming in from Idaho and I already have my luggage packed!!!

I always travel with a hand-sewing project along, including scissors and needles with no problems until last year. I was returning from China after adopting my 2nd daughter, and had my Gingher pocket scissors in my purse with my hand sewing, and they were confiscated, much to my disappointment.
