Now I know we pretty much all have a sewing machine…or two or three or even more…But I just have to talk about the sewing machine I use 99% of the time…It is my #1 Needful thing…Most of you probably have never heard of Juki…so let me just say they are not new to the market…Juki is well known in the garment industry and are mostly industrial machines. ย I think I have had a Juki for about 8 years now…I also own 2 Berninas, 1060 and a 1530, and a couple of featherweights…one black and one white. I confess this to you so you also know what I am comparing to and you all know I teach all across the country and have stitched on many machines.
I bought the Juki with the intention to use it as a second machine to have set up for machine quilting my little quilts, and also so I didn’t have to change the walking foot from my regular foot on my Bernina…that would have been nice, right?…Juki has entered the quilt world with a semi-industrial machine for quilters. ย Here are a few of the features that the Juki machines have…all metal…no plastic bobbins, no plastic feet, ย comes with all sorts of feet including 2 free motion feet and a walking foot, a larger 9″ opening between the body and the arm, so machine quilting would be easier to handle. ย It has a nice extension table, this is nice for retreats, I have it embedded in my table usually. ย The machine ONLY stitches straight. ย Now this might be an issue for some, but I was only going to use this for machine quilting…The fact that it only stitches straight is actually a plus…nice tension all the time, single hole throat plate . ย It holds large cones as well as regular thread…It has an automatic thread cutter, automatic needle threader , knee lift and stitches 1500 stitches per minute or something like that, in other words it is FAST.
After stitching on this machine and using it. ย I did not want to stitch on anything else. ย It “pieces” beautifully…I didn’t have to hang on to my threads at the start, the feed dogs are nice and close together and ย fed my little pieces in nicely. ย Having the single hole meant my piecing wasn’t sucked down into that oblong hole… and again…I could stitch, cut my thread with my foot(or there is a button, but I like my hands free to hold on to my patches) knee lift my presser foot and be on to the next thing…I especially love piecing triangle paper on the Juki for all the reasons I just stated…Now I know being fast really should not be an issue, right? We want to be accurate! ย But let me tell you, if I am stitching strips, borders or you name it…fast is handy…I tried going back to my “regular” machine to piece on…it was almost painful!!! Just shoot me…I loan this machine at The Gathering, but it comes with a warning…if you stitch with it you WILL be going home with it! ย I think only one person didn’t buy one after she stitched on it for a weekend…lol…They also have updated the Juki recently…I have a TL98Q, now they make a TL2010 Q1, they have updated to an LED light…they have added a Turtle and a Hare button, if you want to control how fast it can go…and they changed the foot pedal, a bit…I love my 98 and the features they added do not make a difference to me…so I am keeping my 98.
Here is the only con to my Juki…it is heavy…but it is all metal! ย You can’t have metal parts and it be light!…I think of it like today’s featherweight-but it is not light. ย Anyone can work on a Juki…it is a basic machine, it has no computer…it just needs to be oiled and used and it is happy!
So if you are ever in the market for a machine, please check out the Juki’s and you can read all the technical words I should have used to explain it. ย They now have a presence at the larger quilt shows and will soon come out with a long arm, that will be most reasonably priced. ย I do sell the Juki 2010Q1 at my store…I could sell other machines but remember what I said, I only sell what I use…therefore I sell the Juki’s. ย I am placing the Juki 2010Qi on sale now until the end of the year at a special of $899-(yes…not a typo) including shipping. ย This is a great deal. ย We will order more for this same price as long as you order before the end of the year. ย JUKIย ย In 2013 they will go back to $999.00 still a great price when you think about what you all get with this machine! ย Please allow a few weeks for delivery…we will not charge your card until we are shipping it.
In this “needful series” I could have talked about a lot more things…but I promise to do so in posts in 2013 or like I said the YouTube videos, where a video would be easier than taking a 100 pics and writing about it.
Here are some of the things on my list for next year: ย 1/2 square and quarter square triangles….single and double fold binding….instant antique….fusible web..especially Steam-a-steam 2 LITE….Cutting….Blanket stitch…stem stitch…colonial knots…couching…and that is what is on my list so far…if you have anything that I may have missed or you need help with please email me and I will let you know if I know enough about it to help you…I am also going thinking about ย doing a Stitch-along project on YouTube…we will cover each block and have step by step lessons for an ongoing project. ย Hopefully you can join me…we will offer a kit so you will have everything you need to Stitch Along…let me also know if you think this may be something you are interested in…
Lisa, I love all the tips you have given us. The circle template will certainly improve my circle making. I canโt wait for a few free minutes to get started on another project. I made the candle mat in your Primitive Christmas book and sent it to my sister in Virginia for Christmas. It turned out great and I canโt wait until Christmas Day when she calls me to let me know how she likes it. I could have used the circle template to mark all of those circles. Maybe next time. ย Merry Christmas!
Pam…please send me your address and we will send you some Snowman Gathering goodies! ย It will be a surprise!
Please comment today, as I will be picking winners for today’s post…as well as a sheep ornament kit for 12 lucky winners from my Christmas Blog Hop…so if you didn’t comment on that post get back there and do so…hope you all are enjoying your families at this time…LB
I currently have a Bernina and recently purchased an HQ Sweet Sixteen, but I am certainly interested in a Juki and plan to add one as soon as I can. Sharon Schamber swears by them, too. Thanks so much for your tips. I hope to see you when you come to Lakeland in March.
Dear Lisa,
Thank you so much for the twelve day gift of your expertise. I could ask Santa for every single thing you find “needful” but will settle for what I can currently afford! Better than things though are all the great tips that will help me perfect my skills. I look forward to your future assessment of the Juki long arm machine as that has been on my wish list ever since a friend let me long arm a quilt last year on her machine. Looking toward to the after Christmas sale. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Carol
I am familiar with the Juki, have wanted one for years, for all the reasons you have stated. Alas, my budget does not include Juki purchase at this time. However, I still want one, lol. Have enjoyed your Needful things ideas. Merry Christmas!
Lisa – I just want to thank you so much for the wonderful tips and insights into your most needful things! Hope you and yours have a wonderful Christmas, and join me in having a very Happy New Year in 2013!
I can totally relate to your comments on the Juki TLQ machine! I bought one last summer and I don’t like to use anything else now. I even sew my clothes on this machine and switch to the other machine just for buttonholes! Of course, I do still use my serger for the seams but this is the main machine for all sewing now! It’s so easy to piece quilts with this machine. Love, love, love my Juki!
I will attest to how fast you can sew on your Juki – I think there was smoke rolling off when I was there! Love the stitch-a-long idea – and it would be great to have videos and lessons on some more stitches. I have relied on You Tube to learn a few but I’m not always convinced that they look that great! Have a Merry Christmas!
I’d never heard of Juki until recently when I was looking for a new machine. Mine is very basic and since I was just learning to quilt it was fine. My husband did research as well as I did and we both came up with Juki!! I love mine and have enjoyed using it. Thanks for sharing your Needful Things. I’ve really enjoyed learning from your knowledge. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Lisa, I love your website and blogs. You have become one of my favorites because you have things that I want or need. I will be watching for your videos!
Merry Christmas to you and your family. My husband has planned another quilting store vacation for me and we will be stopping by. I will need to check out the Juki machines!
I have several Berninas, too. Have never used a Juki. May have to give it a try. Right now I would love to sew on any machine as we have been without power for 8 days with no end in site, according to the power company.
Lisa, I have really enjoyed your favorite things blogs. It was like having a personal shopper pointing out all the really valuable things I need in my sewing room. Please do the sew along. I live too far from you to take classes in your shop but would greatly value gaining knowledge and skills from you. Such a great idea! You have so much to share! I will “stay tuned” for that to come.
Wow Lisa, the list for next year sounds great. Also the Stitch Along. I am starting a bucket list and coming up to one of your retreats is on it. Wish I had known about the Juki. I just bought another Janome. Merry Christmas to all, now back to finishing my binding. Nancy
You certainly have a knack for tempting me to buy things for sewing. Thank you for all your tips and advice.
I don’t have enough time to do all the things I want to do. But I am trying. Merry Christmas to you and yours.
You’ve convinced me…I want a Juki! Now, I really have to get serious about saving my pennies. I think a class on you tube is a great idea. For all of us who don’t live close enough to take a class in person, this would be a perfect option. I’ll be watching for that.
I have loved this series of needful things. I did try a Juki once when someone had one at a retreat, and I can say that you are right, they are a fabulous machine.
I too LOVE LOVE my Juki. I have the same model, but am going to keep it and not upgrade. I ordered a 1/4″ foot from Ed Raichert that is specially made for quilters and is better for quilt fabric density than the 1/4″ foot at came with it. I have probably recommended that for to at least 10 other Juki owners, and everyone that has bought one LOVES it! I first read about it on the Juki Yahoo site a couple of years ago.
It’s wonderful reading all your posts! I am a lover of handwork thanks to my aunt teaching me embroidery, quilting when I was 15. That was 40 years ago and she is hand stitching at 80.
I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas!
Never heard of the Juki, but it sounds with while checking out. Good tools make such a difference no matter what you do. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
I really appreciate all the time and thought you have taken in giving us your needful things. I have drooled over all of them, but this is the topper. I have thought of getting a new machine and now it may be a Juki in the future. I now use a all metal Singer for the 1970s and it would be a treat to have the features of the Juki.
I am so glad to know about Juki. I didn’t know anyone made a none computer machine today. I use a Bernina 930 because it is mechanical. I wish I could order one today, but that is not possible. I will keep the Juki in mind if I am ever able to buy one in the future.
I have enjoyed all your posts, but today really caught my eye. Several years ago I purchased a PC Quilter. The lady threw in a Baby Lock Quilters Pro. To me this looks similiar to the Juki. I have never used the PC Quilter or the Quilters Pro. No place to set it all up. Now I am thinking, after reading about you and your Juki, that I should get it out and at least try it. You have motivated me.
I also am interested in a Stitch Along for next year.
Lisa, I’ve appreciated all the time and thought you’ve given in selecting your favorite needful things. I’ve added a few to my list of must haves. I’ve never heard of the Juki, but the next time I’m in the market for a new machine, I’ll definitely check it out.
Thank you for sharing your tips & insight with us. I have found your 12 days of needful things to be absolutely wonderful and fun! I have ordered a couple items and will probably be placing another for one or two more items. Merry Christmas to you & your family!
I bought a Juki from you and I absolutely love it!! I have really enjoyed all these great tips and posts, thank you so much for taking the time to share with all of us. I hope you, your family and all the quilters have a very Merry Christmas!
Lisa, Thank you so much for your 12 days of needful things. I learned a lot. I would love an ongoing project on YouTube. I also love your summer BOW. I wait at my mailbox every Wednesday during the summer for them to arrive. Can’t wait to see what this summer brings.
Glad to read such good things about a Juki. I never know what to suggest to folks looking for a new machine. I have an older Bernina and we’re best friends:) She knows my quirks and I know hers. Merry Christmas!
Thank you Lisa for sharing the 12 days…It was something I looked forward to every day. (Now what will I do?). There is only over $1000. worth of stuff that I want to buy on here! Let’s just hope I get money for Christmas! Merry Christmas! xxx
Thanks for taking time from your busy Christmas Eve to finish up the Needful things. I loved looking at the blog every day. Now back to my SBOW quilt so I can relax on this most anticipated evening of all time. Merry Christmas to you and your family. May your year be filled with God’s blessings. Hugs from Oregon. Teri
Lisa, thank you for teaching us all you do. I can’t wait to see the videos next year and learn more. The Juki machine sounds like a smart investment for those of us who do ALOT of piecing. Now to start saving up to buy it! Merry Christmas and a very happy New Years to you and yours!
An all metal machine is so rare! I’ll be thinking about a Juki. I have an 18 year old Kenmore that I use now and it’s a bit clumsy. I do hear sirens in the background… that means Santa will be riding the fire truck down our street in a few minutes…. maybe… just maybe, my old Kenmore might get driven over by the fire truck and Santa will have to buy me a Juki to replace it?!?!?!? lol! Merry Christmas! And thanks again for all the tips! 2013 is a year for quilting! ๐
Hi Lisa… I haven’t commented every day, but I have read every day and your tips are informative and very helpful! I also loved the picture of your “redneck cooler”. Couldn’t help but wonder if your furry buddies would be anywhere in the area. But then I’m sure you had that part under control. ๐ Looking forward to some Utube from you! Merry Christmas and my best wishes for the year ahead. Have that wedding quilt finished? ๐
Lisa,
Twenty eight years ago today I received the BEST Christmas gift ever, the birth of my
son. Wishing you and your family Peace
Love and Joy this Holiday Season. Looking forward to 2013 and all you have in
Store for us. “Merry Christmas to all
And to all a goodnight”
OMG! I have been looking around and checking out machines whenever I get a chance. This machine sounds wonderful! Durable and efficient! Juki = Honey, I need a new machine!
Thank you for all the tips and wonderful photos you share. Happy Holidays to you and your family.
Well, my list is growing, of “needful things”. Thanks for sharing your expertise with us. My machine is in the shop right now, so that JUKI sounds interesting!!
Merry Christmas to you, Lisa, your family and your staff!
I am stitching along on my 26 year old Bernina 1130. It has seen me through kids’ clothes, doll clothes, toys and MANY quilts. For a while now I’ve been thinking about adding another machine to my collection of one! Maybe the Juki will be it. Yes, Id like the You Tube class. Thank you again for all your expert tips! Norma
I know people who have Jukis and swear by them BUT i am still in love with my 1030 Bernina–all metal and HEAVY but sews like a charm–it is about 25years old and still a favorite along with my Mom’s old singer feather weight she sewed her wedding dress on about 65 years ago! Merry Christmas to all!
Lisa, I also have this Juki and love it!! I keep mine on my sewing frame to machine quilt small quilts but will have to give it a try just for sewing on it. Thanks again for your tips and I can’t wait to use my Gift Cert. from your store this week. Merry Christmas and Happy 2013 to all of you
Thank you so much for all that you do for us with your wonderful tips and ideas. I wait everyday for your 12 Days of Christmas and am always blown away. I eagerly wait for your 2013 videos and other tips. You are truly an inspiration! A very Merry Christmas wish for you and yours.
Hi Lisa, Thanks for all your wonderful tips and info that you have been sharing with us. Really enjoyed them. Looking forward to the UTube’s. Thank you for the info about the Juki. What a wonderful machine for quilting. I just bought a new Bernia 380 when my Bernia 1530 gave out. Did not want to put the money into it.Wish I would have looked at the Juki, of course there is always room for one more machine. Merry Christmas to all of you. Love your blog.
The Juki sounds like a great machine. I have a Bernina and I love it but when I get a second machine I will definitely get a Juki! Thanks again for all the nice posts and Merry Christmas to you and your family!!
I can see where the Juki machine has hands up over some of the other machines used today. Being all metal and heavier than some machines can be a plus. Being on sale sure is an incentive to get one! Janet Kay
I bought a Bernina 10 years ago but really love my 20 year old Pfaff. I think I see a pattern here. Time for a Juki to join the family, don’t you think…
What a wonderful way to end the year. Now just have,to hope that Santa was listening and put all those needful things in my stocking. You shop is by far my favorite one. My husband has to bring me there at least once a month. Happy Holidays and a Blessed and prosperous New Year.
Thanks for all your tips. I was surprised to find that I already own almost all of your needful things and have been thinking about buying a Juki. The speed and thread cutter sound wonderful so I think it might be a good thing to buy with my Christmas money. I’m looking forward to your videos and think a You tube stitch-along would be fun and I bet I’d learn a lot. Happy Holidays!
Lisa, you have all the best ideas. A you tube stitch along would be lots of fun. The Juki sounds like a wonderful machine. Thank- you for sharing all your favorite quilting tools with us. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Thank you so much for all needful things you’ve told us about. I especially enjoy the detailed descriptions and why you like the products. I don’t think we have a Juki dealer in our area but you’ve got me interested in looking in to this type of machine. I would really like the straight stitch piecing accuracy. Happy Holidays!
Yes! Yes! Yes! on the Stitch Along video! I love the idea so count me in. I’m not familiar with the Juki but you make it sound great. I use two Berninas and a Featherweight and didn’t know there was anything better out there. Thanks so much for the 12 days of Needful Things. I have enjoyed every day! Merry Christmas to you and your family and friends — and to those wonderful helpers in the shop!
I have enjoyed reading all your tips and am looking forward to the You tube videos in 2013!
Merry Christmas to you and your family from South Carolina!
I’ve enjoyed all of your posts…lots of new things to put on my wish list. I’m excited about your You Tube videos and would love to do a stitch along. Merry Christmas!!
Lisa, I had an opportunity to learn about the Juki machine years ago and was unable financially to purchase one. Later a friend of mine was selling her Brother Nouvelle 1500 which is basically the same machine with a few minor differences. LOVE IT! I too would rather sew on that machine than any other. Well later another friend was selling her Juki 98Q and I was financially able to purchase it (she had too many machines and favored another). Anyway I was blessed to have 2 wonderful machines. I actually like the threader better on the Brother and the 1/4″ mark on the throat plate on the Brother, although the needle up/down on the Juki is rather nice. Both are wonderful machines! I have sewn on others but these two are my absolute favorites hands down!
This blog series was a great idea…but then it appears like you, Lisa, are full of them! Lol. I’ve enjoyed hearing/reading other people’s opinions on our common quilting concerns. Thanks everyone and happy holidays!
I’ve heard wonderful things about this machine. Guess I need to look into purchasing one after the holidays. Thanks again, Lisa, for some wonderful treats and tips! Merry Christmas!
Thanks for all the information of your needful things. Your sewing machine sounds interesting. Good price for all it does. Looking forward to ordering some of the products you had on your list.
I LOVE my Juki! I got it several years ago to use on a table top frame for machine quilting and even after slowly getting bigger machines I have never given up my Juki…and never will! Looking forward to a youtube class. ๐
I have been saving for a new machine and sounds like I need to look at the Juki….I currently have a Janome and a Computerized Necchi which I love but the throat is too small on both of them to do much free motion on large quilts. Love all your posts. The tips you shared were wonderful.
Thanks,
Diann
I have so much enjoyed every post of your needful things. I too have the Juki like yours, and LOVE it. My favorite thing to do is sew binding on with the Juki. It NEVER slows down going through all the thicknesses.
Best 12 days of Christmas around!! Thanks for all the wonderful ideas and many, many thanks for sharing your ideas and information!! (not everyone is always willing to share so much information) . If only santa saw the list he could bring me a Juki!! Count me in on the quilt along!! I am making my list of what I NEED and getting ready to send it. Thanks again and Merry Christmas Lisa to you and your family.
Can’t wait to see if I get Christmas money tomorrow and if so, may have to consider this machine. I’ve thought about it every since hearing you talk about it at the Crazy Quilt Retreat. I also use a Bernina but it is 25 yrs old and has a few glitches in it. Okay, off to make some poppy seed dressing!
A friend of mine purchase one after using it at the retreat house. She loves it and is a speed demon on it also. But with twin boys she needs to be. That will be another thing I need to try out. But I’m not so sure my husband would be to excited to see yet another machine come into the house. I love all of your tips and tricks. I love forward to them every year. Wishing you and yours a wonderful holiday season and a outstanding 2013. Come to North Carolina so I can see you and get some great wool projects.
I have friends who have the Janome 6600 which sounds similar. I’ve been thinking of one of those but better consider the Juki as well. Thanks again for the info!
You know we all want one of those machines now, you evil temptress you! Thank you for all you do for us in the realm of wool, primitive designs and quality customer service….including travel to all those shows so we can see you and your goods in person! Have a happy and very healthy new year!!
Merry Merry! Thanks for the 12 needful things. I looked forward to them through this holiday season. Looking forward to visiting your store in 2013. Love it!
Thanks for all the great recommendations. Your sewing machine collection makes me smile. I have 3 Berninas (1230, 430 and 440), 1 small elna, 2 black featherweights, 1 white featherweight, and a serger. Also a Bernina Deco 340 embroidery machine. I use them all but think I’ll need to place an order for some of your “favority things”. Merry Christmas and thank you so much.
I really enjoyed this Lisa and look forward to the vids. I think the sewalong is a great idea. I have really wanted to take a class with you so this would be wonderful! Just let me know when. Cheers!
Thanks for the information on the Juki sewing machine. I first saw it at a Quilters Expo and fell in love with it, unfortunately the booth where I saw it was not selling it but it was for their use during the show. The owner was gracious enough to tell me all about it and yes….it is all you said it is! Thanks for all your tips and have a blessed Christmas Day!
I have the Juki mega quilter and LOVE it! I didn’t know they were coming out with a longarm. I’ve been saving my money for a longarm. Maybe I need to wait and check out theirs before I buy one!
Really good series, Lisa. Personally, I think the YouTube idea is great because I don’t always want to travel to take a class (which can be very expensive when thinking about travel, motel, registration fees, class fees, etc.), and while I may not want to do the project offered in a class, I do want to learn the technique, and seeing it demonstrated at home, in my pjs or whatever, on my own time, and many other perks makes it even more desirable. Go for it, and I’ll be one of your frequent online students. Gotta go fill out my order now. Happy holidays.
I have enjoyed your needful series. It has been great and will be waiting for your YouTube series. There always seems to be something to learn even if you have been quilting for a number of years. I want to start working more with wool and your circle blog yesterday was very inspiring.
I have this same machine and just love it. I use it only for machine quilting which is set up on a B-Line quilting frame. I really enjoyed reading your needful series blog and look forward to your YouTube videos. Merry Christmas to you and your staff and family.
Another machine—-got 2, maybe in the future. Thank you for the needful series, it’s been wonderful. You are a kind and generous person. Merry Christmas to you, your family and your quilting angels (staff)
I have really enjoyed your “Needful Things” blog – – one of the first things I click on to everyday! I have been keeping my eyes open for a second machine – – I saw Sharon Schamber sew on one of these in Paducah, but had never heard of it before and haven’t seen it any of the shops I visit frequently in SE Minnesota. Hummmm——maybe I have found my machine. Now I just need to save up a little money to buy it. Merry Christmas!
There is something to be said for a straight stitch machine, that is why I love sewing on Singer 301’s. I will have to check out the Juki………it sounds like a fabulous machine. Thanks for sharing some great tips over the last many days. Merry Christmas.
Well another informative post. I guess I will need to check out the Juki! I love the idea of a sew along project and would love to work along with you.
You are so right about the Juki. I don’t own one, but I have been lucky enough to work on one frequently and I love that speed and quality stitch. I am printing out your post to share with my local machine dealer. They love the Juki and sometimes customers are skeptical about this machine they’ve never heard of. Thank you for all the great hints and your entertaining Blog posts.
I really enjoyed your series. I’ve wondered about Juki Machines, and it sounds like exactly what I want. All I need is a good straight stitch. I love that they are all metal. Something for my daughter to inherit! Thank you!
I also have the Juki TL98Q. I bought it with a B-line frame for quilting but never quite got the hang of it. I was planning to sell the frame and machine but after trying the Juki for piecing I just could not part with it. I thought I was a life long Bernina only fan but now I use my Juki 95% of the time and LOVE it!
I wish I had had this info before I bought My new Machine. It sounds as if it has features that I could use. I have aLready had problems even though it is only 2 months old.
You’ve provided wonderful tips and tricks to truly benefit US. Many businesses will use a time like this to push products they need to move or high profit items. I have seen or used most of your needful things and have found each and everyone of them to be must haves. I have a Bernina and have never seen or heard of a Juki but I hope to take some time to learn about them soon. Thank you so much for sharing your love of quilting with the rest of us.
Thank you so much for all of the Needful Things posts…I have learned so much from you! Reading about the Juki makes me want one! Have a Merry Christmas!!!!
Yes. I have to agree. I have had my Juki for years. It is a must for small quilting project. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas n Happy New Year. Diane
Lisa, thank you so much for all of the useful tips these past twelve days. I watched the videos of you with Mary Fons (again) and can say you are a natural! Can’t wait to learn more from you! I have been a sewer for more years than I care to remember and have always used a Singer machine. My husband bought me one the Christmas before we were married and it lasted for nearly 30 years (the machine that is, we’re still married!) I have since bought a school model, convincing myself I only needed to sew a quick seam here and there. I have been retired from teaching since 2010 and I think it may be time to treat myself to a “serious” machine since I have been doing a LOT of mini quilt piecing. A Juki may be in my future thanks to your recommendation. Wishing you and your family the merriest of Chritsmases and a wonderful 2013.
I’m sewing on a 20+ year old Bernina and would love to check out this machine! I’m going to keep it in mind. Thanks again for all of your tips and the great information that you share! Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!
I’ve heard before what a great machine a Juki is for quilters. Maybe someday… Thanks so much for your twelve Needful things posts. I look forward to your online videos! Merry Christmas!
I loved reading each and everyone of your post. I ordered the iron and can’t wait to get it. Thank you so much for the many hints. I am especially going to use the circle one. Wishing you and your loved ones a very Merry Christmas
you are so right about the juki! i use to have one, but gave it to my dil when she first started to learn to quilt. she loves it! sigh…. i sure miss that machine. lol….. i have a fw, and a bernina 440. love them both, but the juki, well…… it is a wonderful machine!
Thank you for taking the time during this busy season to blog everyday about the things you find “needful” in your quilting, they have been most informative and I have loved reading them everyday. I am going to miss not reading your blog everyday. I love your online shop, and your blog. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Ok, I have a Bernina, Viking and Pfaff but I think I have to have the Juki! Going on my wants list right away! Thank you Lisa for all the wonderful designs and wool, just the best eye candy ever!
I have never seen a Juki machine. It sounds like a dream. Thank you again for all your ideas for Christmas, I hope you and all your staff have a Very Merry Christmas.
I’m been thinking about trading in or getting a straight stitch machine. You are so tempting with the JUKI. Know someone who does all her sewing and quilting on an older model and loves it. Like you say, it is a fast machine with few parts to mess up. Miss the medal bobins and haven’t seen one since my mother traded in her White. We should have kept it for straight stitching. I’m thinking about a Juki, Maybe I should sing that I’m dreaming of a Juki.
Loving all you hints, etc. How about a tutorial showing you piecing on your Juki. I’m one who can read or watch a concept — both makes it wonderful.
Merry Christmas. Hope you are home with a glass of wine watching the fireplace for Santa.
Merry Christmas to you and your family and the girls at the shop. Like all your things you can’t live without. I been thinking of a new machine; they all get complicated. I have bought two featherweights; but need to get them serviced first.
Can’t wait to come the the shop.

Thanks for all the tips…many I already use, but many are new so I always learn more. I’m hoping to get at the sheep ornament soon….so cute! Many thanks, and I’m looking forward to a stitch along and your future U-tube stuff….
Nanc.
Sounds like a nice machine for easy travel. Busy day tomorrow 25 guests for Christmas. Hope you and your staff have a Very Merry Christmas and Blessed New Year.
Lisa I have really enjoyed the “needful things” series. Love the idea of you tube videos and the sew along. Please consider doing a video on big stitch quilting. I’ve been wanting to learn that for a long time. Wish I were in the market for a new machine. It just might be a Juki! Merry Christmas to you and your family.

I have friends that have Juki machines and love them. I have enjoyed your posts, you have enlightened me to some tools that I had to have. Happy holidays to you and yours.
I am sorely tempted by the Juki machine, as I used to sew on an industrial machine, and you can really power along and get a lot done in half the time. I’ll have to think hard about this one!
Love your post today, I only have one machine and love it, but have been on the lookout for another. This machine sounds perfect. Merry Christmas to you and yours
Thank you for all of your terrific hints. I have enjoyed them and learned a lot. I think the idea of a Stitch-a-Long sounds fun and something I would like to do. Merry Christmas to you and your family! Michelle S.
Would definitely do the stitch along. Great idea. Snowmen are my weakness, would love a surprise. Thanks again. Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year.
Thank you for your needful things posts. I really enjoyed them! I would definitely be interested in a follow along. A little motivation can go a long way. Merry Christmas!!
I have enjoyed these 12 days. I feel much wiser and my wish list has grown exponentially. I love learning new techniques, about new notions and new ideas. I find it inspiring. Thank you for sharing. I have a Pfaff and love the built in walking foot, her name is Ethel, a beautiful red Janome 7700 named Lucy and my Serger is name Desi. I find it easier to curse at Desi (liked it better than Ricky) when he is misbehaving. I am lacking a Fred so in a couple of years I will add to my collection. I will try a Juki. Fred was a stout man and is a fitting name for a solid chunk of metal. LOL! Merry Christmas to you and your family.
I loved all your needful things and all the tips. I mostly do hand work, so when I use the machine, my friends tell me I should take off my shoes because I have a “heavy foot”. How much more would I have to strip if I ever bought a Juki? Too much stripping would not be a pretty sight. I would love a stitch-a-long. Thanks, Sheila.
This is a Needful thing post I will be filling away. One day I hope to get a decent machine that I can do free motion on. Right now I use a Singer that is about 30 years old. It only does straight stitch and zigzag. It is very heavy also. I love it, but there is no free motion. If I could figure out a way to do that with this machine I would be very happy. But the Juki does interest me, I really don’t use a lot of fancy stitches anyway! Happy Holidays!
I also have enjoyed these 12 days and the wonderful tips.
I really love my Janome Horizon with its big 9″ space for quilting and its wonderful walking foot.
Have a fabulous Christmas.
Thanks so much for posting all your needful things! I sure enjoyed reading every post…and now I’m thinking I might just need a new sewing machine! And I’m sure my DH will be thanking you too ๐ Merry Christmas to you and your family Lisa!
Have thoroughly enjoyed the tips every day. Looking forward to what you have planned for 2013 including utube videos and the stitch along. Have a Best Wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year !
Merry Christmas Lisa, I have really enjoyed all of your posts. Thank you very much for taking the time to do this. I am very excited about you doing UTube videos, can’t wait. The Juki sounds wonderful and I’m putting it on my wish list.

Merry Christmas Lisa! I think I may have to look at the Juki. I have two Vikings, and an old Sears that runs just fine! Love all of the tips. I hope to visit in person some day.
I’m going broke buying all you’re great “things”!I’m trying to use them as I go, and I’m loving them…the spray coated my iron, but I’m sure cleaning it is easier than not using the spray!
Thank you, and im wishing there were more days left until Christmas,
Audrey
Thanks for all the great tips over the 12 days! I’ve enjoyed each and every one. The JUKI sounds great, sure wish I had room for another machine..Merry Christmas to you and your family! And best wishes for a wonderful New Year. I’m looking forward to seeing what you’ve got in the works for next year!
It’s good to know a sewing machine company still makes a machine without all the bells and whistles! Then Juki will be my next “must have”. Meerry Christmas to you and yours

I bought a Janome earlier this year and wish I had heard about your Juki! They’re all new to me but I decided on a Janome as my sister had one. She passed away and I have inherited several quilting items from her and am so enjoying learning to quilt. Love your blog and all the info you impart. Thanks Lisa!

Merry Christmas to the Primative Gatherings Family! Thank you providing good info on all our sewing needs & wants! The stitch along will be a bonus! Hmmmm I’ll have to give the Juki a test drive…that’s like saying lets go look at the puppy.
Merry Christmas to you and your family. Have loved all your tips. I too sew with a Juki, it’s the best ever, I too have a Bernina, Janome, Viking, Featherweight, and the BEST is Juki!!!

Thanks for all the great ideas, some of them I all ready am using and will be gathering up some of the rest to put to use. Keep up the great work Lisa! Merry Christmas!
Lisa, thank you so much for the great ideas on the 12 most needful list. I mentioned the Juki to my husband who owns a Janome dealership in Sheboygan Falls, he suggested I try the Janome 1600P which has all the same features you mention plus a few extras. I’ll let you know what I think. Wishing you a very Merry Christmas.
It sounds like a great machine, I wish I had heard about it earlier this summer! But, I will look into it, the next time I need to buy a machine. I’ve loved reading your as most needed items and am looking forward to reading more on your blog
The Juki machine sounds just wonderful. I love the thought of the fabric not getting “stuck” in all the holes.
I might have to try one out and see how it goes. Love all the tips. I ‘m looking forward to
your blog tips. Thanks again and Merry Christmas to you and your family and staff.
Merry Christmas to you and your family. Hope Santa fills the dogs stockings with lots for treats too.

Lisa, my daughter would appreciate a punch needle youtube video…she is off at college, but was working on a snowman kit she bought at your shop, and her stitches weren’t as tight and seemed longer and puffier on the right side and she is wondering why…nobody at the shop last week could help her. YouTube by you would be perfect for her. Thank you!
Merry Christmas! The info on the Juki was very interesting. You did a great job describing it. Sounds like an easy machine to use and the price seemed very reasonable. No muss-no fuss type of machine with little that could go wrong. I will have to check into that more. Enjoy your Christmas snow-we are expecting severe thunderstorms and possible tornado activity tomorrow. We may have to postpone our Christmas dinner until Wednesday when it supposed to be blue skies. Have a great time with your family.
Merry Christmas Lisa! I really enjoyed your “needful” things. Wish I could buy them all!! The Juki sounds wonderful! Another thing to save my money for!!! Thanks for all the info. I really looked forward to your blog everyday. It was lots of fun! Can’t wait till the holidays are over so I can get back to the sewing machine.
Thanks for all the needful supplies. It was very helpful to know what your recommendations are and I am very excited to see your utube videos. Will see you in March at the Gathering. The Juki sounds like a great machine. Have a Merry Christmas.
Thank you for the past 12 fun days! I look forward to your UTube shows and demos. I have taken your class, and you really make learning fun! Merry Quilting.
I’m one of the ones that had never heard of the Juki but sounds like something I might want to hear more about. Thanks for sharing. As for the you tube sew along, count me in, that would be amazing!
Lisa, thank you for the 12 days of christmas posts ….eagerly looked forward to each one, what a gift! I appreciate your desire to travel less and improve your quality of life. I’m usually exhausted ( but in awe!) when I read your blog and see your schedule! Take care of yourself, be kind to yourself. Can’t WAIT for your presence on YouTube. I haven’t sewn/quilted in nearly a year, your blog and enthusiasm have inspired me to make the time and make this a priority in my life….I deserve it :-).
Lisa – I HAVE SEEN YOU SEWON THE jUKI AND HAVE LISTED AFTER IT SINCE I SAW IT. tHAT MIACHINE IS SOMETHING ELSE. aLAS, IT WILL HAVE TO GO ON SANTA’S LIST FOR NET YEAR. {SIGH{

I have really enjoyed all of your Needful Things. I would be interested in the stitch along. Would also like more information on big stitch quilting. Thanks for all your time to help all us quilters. Merry Christmas to you and your family and all the staff at Primitive Gatherings. You all are the BEST!!!!
You’re right I never heard of a Juki sewing machine. I like the fact that it only sews straight, keeps it simple. Keep it simple is my mantra for the new year. Looking forward to your youtube classes. A stitch along sounds like it would be so much fun…sign me up!
Happy Holidays!
Oh boy..I need another machine like I need more holes in my head, but I am soooooo tempted! I have a friend that has a Juki and she loves hers too. Thanks for the tips!
Merry Christmas, I totally enjoyed all of your 12 Days of Needful Things. I have a You Tube You idea…how do you join the end of your quilt binding to the beginning of the binding? Also how do you sew the corners when sewing on the binding? Have a Happy & Healthy 2013. <3
I would love to own a Juki. I have read on different blogs about the Juki you own and how “everyone” that owns it just loves it and would never part with it. I am going to order some of your favorite things too.
Loved your 12 days of favorite things! Can’t wait for your utube video workshops! Finally I’ll be able to do one of your classes!!! You are a wealth of information and thanks for sharing. Looking forward to 2013 and what you have in store for us next!!!!
Juki’s are amazing machines…would someday like to own one! Thanks so much for all your needful things! Love them all…and now have a long list of things to keep my eye open for!! Thank you!
Paulette
Well, didn’t even get a chance to view your needful things on this day because of all the activities getting ready for Christmas! Merry Christmas!! Enjoyed good food and company and hope you did too! Well, I think that you have sold me on another machine… Can’t even admit to how many I have, but this one sounds like a gem.
I attended a Cindy Needham course on free motion and while I did fine on my rented Bernina, noticed half the class brought their Juki machines. I asked if I could try one out and it blew my mind! Bought one as soon as I got home, and it is my free motion magic machine! Looking forward to trying their new long arm machine, too.
The Juki sounds like just the ticket. This would certainly be a BIG step up for me. Thanks for this whole 12 days of Christmas. You’ve passed on so much good information and educated me on a lot of good products new to me. And besides that, it’s been fun, even if I don’t win anything. My wish list is now a mile long.
Simply put, I love my Juki. She is the Queen in a sewing room of two Berninas and a Bernina long arm! She is a workhorse, sews like a dream two years later, and is very easy to maintain. Iโd give up a Bernina (not both, just one!) and keep her!
