Day 3…Needful things for Quilters

12 Days of Christmas 3

We are almost done!!! Today’s needful thing is also essential for any wool appliquรฉ! ย Chenille needlesโ€ฆnow why do we need chenille needles?โ€ฆI use the #24 for my Valdani #12 wt. threads for hand stitching my embroidery stitchesโ€ฆit has a sharp point, it is fine and strong with a big eye for threading the perle cottonโ€ฆThe #24 is littleโ€ฆit will not shred your woolโ€ฆand you can control it to make tiny stitches too! ย You will not be disappointed in this needleโ€ฆbut what about the #22? ย I use the #22 with anything thicker than a #12 perleโ€ฆso #8, #5 โ€ฆWhen making larger stitches…I also might use a #22 when I double the #12 thread and/or when I am making colonial knots! ย Do you know about a colonial knot? ย I never make French knots everโ€ฆI am sure there are a few of you out there who have learned this knot from meโ€ฆit is the best isn’t it!!! ย So for the special on our Primitive Gathering needles I am offering a combo at a nice priceโ€ฆso its like getting more than one pack free! ย 3 of each size needle for $12.00!!! I never put these on sale because they more than a little labor intensive! ย So stock up woolly ladies!

The winner from yesterday isย marieDecember 22, 2013 at 9:09 am

I love your needles!! Was using a different one, same size though; but they were longer and yours are just nicer. Actually working on wool today while the ice is gathering outside.

I do love your needle packets. My problem with needles is once I remove it from a package, I don’t remember which size it is. These needles are easy to tell which are which. Lisa, I wanted to tell you that I have finally finished the sheep ornament from last year’s christmas blog hop. When I pulled it out this year all it needed was to blanket stitch the edges and now it is on the tree. I love all the wool ornies I have made from your patterns on my tree.

Lisa – thanks for the info! I’ve been working on wool stuff for less than a year and just using whatever needle that I could get the thread threw or whatever I had on hand. Adding the needles to my shopping cart!! On a side note to the lady that commented on forgetting which needle she was using after she took it out of the package – I use one of those small red pin cushions – tomato or strawberry thing – and mark a section with the needle type and size. I place the needle there after use to keep track of it. Also have done this with my machine needles when I have had to change back and forth between jean, metallic, quilting needles, etc for projects. Enjoying your “Needful Things”. Going to look up the Colonial Knot – working on some projects with lots of French Knots.

I canโ€™t wait each day to see what you have in store for us, and got so excited to see the needles. I first purchased these needles at the Houston quilt show a couple of years back along with my first wool applique project and love them and have feel in love with wool applique. I have added them to my must haves!!! Thanks!!!

Two magnets are attached inside my thread case…one says big one says little! The paper holder is taped to the inside of the cover until gone…then I replace! Thank you!

Love these needles and love the sizing tip, purchased several cans last night so I could get started this morning . Do I use my steam as I normally would when pressing my fabrics or dry iron to dry the sizing? Or does it matter?
