Welcome to the first day of Geri Robinson’sย Quilted Living Book TourโฆI’m Lisa Bongean of Primitive GatheringsโฆI was delighted to be asked to stitch a project in Gerri’s newest book and be a part of this book tour. ย What an awesome job I have… right? ย This was the first thing on my list to stitch after arriving home from 2 weeks in Houston for Quilt Market & Festival. ย I looked forward to “just stitching” โฆpick my fabrics and just make the runnerโฆ As a designer…I have to aways be thinking about writing everything down, figuring out every measurement, how many pieces of what and so onโฆso none of that hereโฆjust stitch the runner. ย After studying my project ย Liberty Table Runnerโฆ.I decided to tweak it a little different from the pattern. ย I was supposed to make it and put my twist on it. ย I love long skinny runners… so I made the decision to only make 1 row of stars for my big farm table at the Lakehouse. ย My color theme at the there is cream, grey and yellowโฆwhich just happens to be included in my newest fabric line, Lakeside Gatherings, due out this coming December and I happened to have some leftovers from all the quilts that we just made so this part was ย super easyโฆno real decisions againโฆI added a few extra stars for a total of 15 instead of 13. ย I then found some ย leftover backing from Winneconne Waves quilt that will work, without having to piece a back, or use a bunch of yardage for a little ย long runner.
See the Pam Buda BOM the Crows are working on??? I thought I’d leave that in for a little eye candy…
It is the weekend before this post so I’d better quilt it and get a binding on it right awayโฆjust in case something happensโฆI’ll be ready for this post instead of saving it all til MondayโฆSo on the long arm it goes…
I picked a small edge to edge pattern (Paisley Max) and got it doneโฆI used a cream thread and the ย runner was done in one passโฆThat is not the thread I usedโฆjust a prop so you can see the size of the pattern…
I just love how this runner worked outโฆbut theย best part was piecing the stars! Look at them closeโฆthey share the same partsโฆsquare in a square units instead of flying geese, traditional star blocks. ย It was ย fun to piece these this way and it went together in a snapโฆIf you have a shorter tableโฆmake less starsโฆthis pattern is easily adaptable to any size, length or width. ย I also changed the longer strip orderโฆnothing major but a slight changeโฆ Here are two of the runners in the bookโฆgreat also in Americana colorsโฆI enjoyed stitching this runner I am going to make one for the summer holiday in drab red, tan and blue or maybe the quiltโฆyesโฆit was that fun!
I sat and went through all the other projects in the bookโฆNice directions..very clear and concise. ย I tend to be more traditional and use more of a warm color palette in most of my projects. ย The book’s projects are made from Gerri’s newest fabric line called Summer Cottage from Red Rooster Fabrics which is very fresh, clean and summeryโฆbut Iย can see that these patterns could handle many fabric choices that work with traditional blocks.
My Lakeside runner turned out to be 14″x 64″ ย Linda(thequiltedpineapple.com) and I shared projects ย and she asked if I am going to have kits???. ย Well I guess the answer is… yes we could!โฆ.If you would like to pre-orderย (december) a kit using the same fabrics as ours the price will be $30. ย See our website hereย for the kit. ย You can get the book from Planted Seed Designs, Fat Quarter Quilt shop and we will also stock it at Primitive Gatheringsย It listed with the runner in the drop down box.
If you wish to win this book leave me a comment! We will pick a winner at the end of the tour. ย I want to CONGRATULATE Gerri on her newest book and fabric lineโฆI know how much hard work this all takes. ย Well done!
If ย you have not already been there…hop on over to Linda’s Blog to see what she has worked her quilting magic on! I have not seen it quilted yet, but It will be awesome! ย thequiltedpineapple.com

Love, love, love! I am a quilter, collector of antique quilts ( I have my great grandmothers ” crazy quilt” amongst others) and, I love, love, the quilts you design. Have made some of your designs Lisa, and lusting after more!
Love your tablerunner! One of the things that I enjoy about quilting is how easily patterns can be individualized by fabric choices and tweeking the pattern to fit your needs. I would love to win this book – thanks for the chance!
Lisa – love the table runner! The skinniness, the colors, yummy! What I really love is your subtle hint of how you pieced your stars – wow! Maybe now I can make perfect stars just like yours, scan wonky flying geese points. Thank you for sharing. I love getting emails from you, your stories are always fun and your projects are so inspiring. Now I need to get busy on one of my many Primitive Gatherings kits!
I am a “Primitive” gal all the way. Love love love the runner and idea to make it longer. How nice to offer us a chance to win the book. Now back to stitching my summer bow. I am behind obviously. LOL. Blessings.
Looks like this is going to be a great book, love the table runner. Time to step out of my comfort zone and try brighter quilts. This would be the perfect book.
Wonderful book – I’d like to try several of these quilt designs! I’m usually drawn to brighter colors but I love the color combination of your table runner. Beautiful!
Your star table runner is beautiful and gives me a color suggestion that I hadn’t thought. I can see a new quilt in the making for my daughter’s yellow guest room.
Lisa your table runner is awesome. You must have a very long table at the Lakehouse to use a 64″ runner. Thanks for chance to big the book. b.j.day68@gmail.com
Can’t wait to check out this book, it looks like allot of fun projects! I agree, you must have a really long table to use a large runner on!!!
Thanks for sharing! Tammy
I love your version of the table runner. Can’t wait for your newest fabric line to come out next month. It is beautiful. Did you use a special ruler or technique for the square in a square block? Would love to win the book.
It looks like a great book. I like the idea of making stars using square in a square blocks. I found myself staring at your table runner to see how it was done. Thanks for a chance to win the book
The book looks fantastic. I also am always attracted to star, but the other quilts on the cover look like a lot of fun too! Love the quilting you did on it.
Hi Lisa…your runner is beautiful!!
I love simplicity and runners. I designed one of the American flag for my kitchen table but can use elsewhere in house when decorating.
I call myself the “Badda Bing” gal. Love larger design that will feature the beauty of fabric…such as your runner. Love your lake house!! It was such a joy visiting with you and Nick there. Love u both dearly. Vicky
:)..
Thanks for the chance to win this book!! Love your runner! I will be seeing you at Road to CA! Can’t wait! I’m hoping you have all your newest creations up for Show and Tell! :o))

With today being Veteran’s Day, I can immediately see this runner in a red, white and blue! What a neat way to join stars! Tthanks Lisa for your wonderful designs… woolie and all.
That’s a great looking runner and I love that colour combination! I have Gerri’s book A Cut Above which is great and I’m looking forward to seeing more of what is in this book.
Hi! I have been looking for a table runner pattern for my dining table. I have a primitive style home and your pattern would work great! Thanks for sharing.
Loved your booth in Houston!!! Like the idea of a skinny table runner . The book looks like it would have some fun patterns and I love the color choices for SpRiNg!

Quilted Living appears to be a wonderful book! I love several of the quilts pictured in the book and would really like to make some of them. Your table runner is lovely!
Thanks for this giveaway opportunity.
Fresh is right! I have been looking for patterns that have either soft or bright colors with a white background. I’m drawn to the clean lines…so I would love to win the drawing for the book! Lovely work!
The runner you made is lovely and I can picture it in your face more primitive fabrics I also can picture in my mind of it done up in some patriotic colors. Lisa thank you for the great post (I always appreciate getting the inside view of your designing process and creativity) and happy Veterans Day Hugs Liz
I really like your table runner…. both of my daughters have long dining room tables and I was hoping to make them runners for Xmas. This book would be great!
Such a beautiful runner – thank you for the star piecing ideas! I decorate in a patriotic theme, so your idea of
the tan, red & blue for the summer holidays really caught me, too!! The book cover is so appealing – just what
we need after our first taste of Ol’ Man Winter this year – and YES, you do have an awesome job!
Well, your fabrics inspire me to try different colors that I would not normally select. I tend to get stuck in the civil war fabrics, I have to say I have been having a blast with Primitive Gatherings line of fabrics. It is a good thing to be stretched out of our comfort zones, I think for me it has helped me to create other quilts for different people with different personalities and likes. love the warmth in the runner. I have a big farm table in my dining room so I think this runner would be perfect. Keep creating.
I love the table runner and the fabrics are a must have! Can’t wait to see this book tour because so far, it looks like it will be wonderful! My house is all about quilts so this is the book for me.
I am a very traditional quilter and tend to always use civil war or warm muted color in my fabrics. Your table runner and new line of fabric make me think otherwise. I am sure the quilts in the new book will inspire me and possibly want me to get “out of my box” and use other fabrics than the antique looking fabrics. I very seldom use a white fabric in my quilts but whenever I see quilts with white, I love them. Winning this book could send me in a very different direction with quilting.
I truly enjoy viewing projects in blog tours…it opens my mind to see “outside my box”. Love the colors in your runner, Lisa and the adaptation you did.
I enjoy reading the posts in a blog tour…it opens my mind to “outside my box” ideas. Love the colors in your table runner, Lisa and the change you made to the pattern.
I have been looking for a pattern to make a runner for my sister-in-law as a gift. Whenever we go their lakeside home in the summer, she is the best hostess!!!! Takes care of us in style and we always leave refreshed and loved. I would love to win this book to make a very special gift for her!!!!!
Lisa, I have a 10 ft long farm table also so your version of Gerri’s new design is perfect. Thank you for pointing out the technique Gerri uses for star points. Look forward to seeing you at Road2CA in January.
Quilted Living looks like it will be a wonderful book to own. I like your Lakeside Gatherings fabric for your runner and how you made the stars. My favourite blocks are star blocks and I will give your method a try.
Lisa, I love your runner and the colors you’ve chosen. Turned out beautiful! Will you post a virtual tour of your lake house so we can see the colors? That would be awesome! I know you’ve posted some pics of it before but a video tour would be so fun so we can all imagine we are there with you quilting and stitching away! Ahhh!
The colors of your tablerunner look great for year-round use. Gerri’s book has lots of great quilt ideas that I would love to interpret into my own quilts. Thanks for the chance to win this book!
Geri’s quilts are so beautiful in this new book. I love the table runner you made and I can’t wait to sew with your new line, Lakeside Gatherings. The colors are beautiful! Thank you for joining in on the tour and for the chance to win Geri’s book. Very inspiring!
Love the little star points rather than the traditional flying geese. They seem to have more ‘personality’. I have a split personality when it comes to quilting. I have always been a fan of Geri’s patterns but I’ve always been drawn to your color choices. Thanks for a chance to win her new book.
It looks like a lovely book and your tablerunner turned out beautifully. Thanks for the chance to win such a terrific new book.
Regards from Alberta Canada,
Anna
An awesome looking book and I love your interpretation of the table runner. There sure looks to be lots of projects I would enjoy making in this wonderful book. Thank you
Love the table runner! The yellow and grey are such a great combo! This book tour is great! I would love to flip through it and plan the quilts I’m going to make!
Wow. This is table runner is awesome. Your table must look so beautiful. Can’t wait to page through this new book. Looking forward to coming to your store and buying your new line. Happy Thanksgiving.
Love the modifications you made to make the runner “yours”! Looking forward to the release of Lakeside gatherings too. Already have some yardage (a couple of bolts worth!) pre-ordered from my LQS. Would love to get a copy of the book to make my own versions of the runner, and one of the cover quilts! Thanks for the inspiration, and haks to geri for the great designs!
Outstanding work on this runner! So kind of you to offer kits to readers interested in making one just like yours (Many quilters would hate to have anyone copy their total look). I am curious how you used the FMQ pattern that you show on paper. How was that transferred? Can you tell I’m a newbie to FMQ?
Hi Lisa, I love your piecing of the stars and how they share the same partsโฆsquare in a square units. Magnificent and stunning. Long skinny table runners are my favorite to make also. Thanks for the chance at winning the book. Gerri deserves a gold star.
As a beginner I have lots to learn, the book will come in handy Would love to win it. I also like the colors of your new line. If you look at my web site Lindascakery.com you will see the handy work I have done. Now I’m retiring from working for brides. Taking up something new I decided to quilt so I can keep what I create instead of people eating it. LoL
Hiya!!! The more I’m seeing of this book, the more i want it. And I will have a copy sooner or later (hope it’s sooner, lol). I love your color scheme—subtle yet dramatic. Thanks so much for participating and having the giveaway. Blessed be, hugs!!! Pam

Lisa, Thank you for sharing your talent and choice of your fabric line. This book looks like another of my “Must Haves” How cool is that these designers that we love, collaborate and share their talents with us. Love the Lakeside Gatherings line – my next go to collection. Quilters are the best family to be a part of…
I have been following Gerri Robinson with her patterns mostly in McCall’s magazines – always love her patterns! Her designs are always so inviting and soft looking – definite feminine touch to a lot of them. Her second book must be as fabulous as her first one A cut Above.
I’m sure Gerri’s new book is just wonderful! I recently ordered a quilt kit from her, and I was so impressed with the packaging, quick arrival time, and quality of the fabric.i’d love to be included in your giveaway.
I just LOVE your table runner! Everything about it is just wonderful. The colors, the fabrics, the quilting, everything. Thanks for the chance to win the book, also, which looks awesome.
Love your tablerunner, so fresh in yellow, grey and white. I wish I could buy new furniture, I would get a grey couch and these would be my new colors. This book looks great too, would love to win it. cdahlgren at live dot com
An interesting colour combo you have chosen for your beautiful runner. A long arm quilting machine certainly saves you time but I’ll just have to take my time hand quilting. Thanks for sharing your lovely project.
I always thought I wasn’t a fan of that color scheme, but I think you’re winning me over ! Love that table runner…and your piecing is sooo accurate! You go girl!
I love the colors. My daughter just got married and her color palette was grey, yellow and cream. It looks like a great book. Thank you for your generosity.
I like your table runner and colors you chose for it. This looks like an awesome book I am a big fan of Geri Robinson. I have her last book and it is a great book.
I have been away to a sew-in so late to the party as far as viewing the first on the tour. Your runner came out so pretty! Today is my day so I hope you will go take a peek at mine. ๐
I’m not sure if it’s because the picture of your runner is a close up, but I love the stitch length you used when you quilted your runner. It looks like a bigger stitch and it really adds to the runner. I am anxious to see the inside of this book, If the inside is anything like the outside it’s sure to be a winner!
I adore your runner. The colors are fantastic – very country – to me. Thanks for hosting the giveaway. I’ve been in love with the book and just haven’t given in to buying it, yet.
Wow, love your style! Just looked at Linda’s runner too at The Quilted Pineapple, another Wow! The book is on my list of must have’s! Maybe I’ll be lucky and be picked to win?! !
I just think the fabric Lakeside gatherings is so striking, The yellows, the grays and the blacks are just gorgeous together, love the long table runner. Glad that you’re having kits.
