Summer Breeze Week 2…and a little note on the Little Bow Ties..

Here are week 2 of Summer Breeze blocks and parts…I designed this block to be 6″ but I guess with my scant 1/4″ seam allowances the blocks are 6 3/4″ instead of 6 1/2″…I did not even notice because I was in such a hurry to finish them that I never measured any of them..but this will not be a big deal as we will just adjust the sashing to 6 1/4″ when we set the blocks in the quilt, and after the quilting they will measure 6 again!!! lol…What do your blocks measure?  Is this just me? Is my scant too scant?  IMG_2600

Thanks for signing up and stitching this one with me…we had to cut more kits!!!! My customers are the best!

Just a note to ALL of you who signed up for the CA pieced SBOW…Little Bow Ties…IMG_2617 (1)

This has been a smash hit!…we have way more orders than expected…we were not ready for this and I must admit I think a little overwhelmed…soooo…We have ordered more backgrounds and are waiting for them to arrive…we will send week 1 and 2 together if yours did not ship out this week.  Also we have emailed or contacted you that a few of week 1 went out without the pattern…this will ship with week 2 if this was your case…thanks for understanding, as my CA staff gets aquainted to this type of program and pace.  Its been a (hectic) but FUN week!!!! Thanks for coming out…and today we have for our Grand Opening special…all books and patterns 20% off…as well as some nice kits…come in and visit…

We also have discovered that because our website uses Paypal…we would have to switch every book and pattern to put them “on sale” in our website… we don’t have the time to do this…but the kits are “on sale” as there only about a dozen or so…We were told in August we should be able to handle regular credit card transactions along with the Paypal…But if you want to take advantage of our 20% off book and pattern sale…you could always call…thanks…here is the link Primitive Gatherings CA

now to get ready for work and my hour commute…LB

I have used a scant 1/4 on mine also and they have come out to measure 7.25″. I was wondering if I was doing something wrong and if I would have enough material in the end for finishing. Love this Summer Breeze pattern!!

I am having a lot of trouble with this block! The 2 blocks I have made are not square and measure about 6 and 1/4 finished. Are the half square triangles supposed to touch the 9 patch? I have even marked the sewing lines and have cut carefully. I have never had so much trouble and I have made many of your patterns before with success. Wish I had signed up for the other SBOW.

I forgot to mention that since I use a scant 1/4 inch, my unfinished size of the 9 patch is 5 ” and the unfinished size of 1/2 square triangle is 2″. Hope that helps.

This is correct too the block should measure 6 1/4″ finished… 6 3/4″ unfinished

I also use a scant 1/4 inch seam. My block squared to 6-3/4 in unfinished. This was a very difficult block. I agree with Linda Baker, I wish I had signed up for the bow tie SBOW.

My blocks measure 6-3/4″. A few are a little wonky where the corner blacks meet at the points of the 9-patch. need to pay more attention to my dog ears if that makes any sense. I think the 1-3/8″ host are the smallest I’ve ever made. It’s a good challenge.

I am really enjoying these blocks and haven’t had any trouble, especially now that I know my 6 3/4″ is correct! I don’t use Lisa’s starch technique but I do spray a fair amount of Magic Sizing on my fabrics before I cut them, with a little extra dose on those tiny squares for the square in a square units. I also am taking my time and being careful with my cutting, sewing and pressing. Seems to be working!

      Each block gets better.

Is there a specific pressing of this block so it it lies flat?

I just want to say I appreciate how everyone shares their knowledge. What did we do before the internet. Yayyyy I officially became part of the SBOW wool group on Facebook today. It took me a while since I do not usually use Facebook. But after visiting the group it was well worth the task. I recommend when PG offers this, take advantage, well worth it. Lisa what a gem you have in Jessica, she has been so helpful getting me through the steps to Facebook. I also have summer breeze to start. I am refreshed after all the wonderful people who blog and post on Facebook. Thanks to all of you.

Lisa, can you tell me what is the unfinished size of the of the square in a square for the pieced SBOW. ALSO, I AM HAVING A BRAIN F—. How many extra 1/2 square triangles are we suppose to have each week. Thx so much.
