Oh what the heck…let’s do another block already…since I already posted twice today in the last hour!!! Sorry to fill you email box! Here the story on this block…after it was finished…I thought it still wasn’t finished…so I added something else…directions are for the city version shown below here…if you like the top omit the 4 HST and add 4 more squares….The Magic of Christmas Block 4 B&W
The Magic of Christmas Block 4 Color
Now don’t get all stressed out! Just make the one you want!!!
Just a couple of things that have come up in questions…Blocks should measure 6 1/2″ …until they are sewn into the quilt…now they are 6″ finished.
If you have ordered fabrics from us…and we have subbed a few…just use whatever.. as it honestly does not matter what fabric is used in what block.
Please encourage your friends to do this quilt with you…stitch with friends……and get on instagram and post your blocks…#themagicofchristmasquilt
Your blocks are lovely. Do you have any hints about keeping red fabric from bleeding into white? Even when I pre wash with vinegar, I get a bit of residual dye sometimes. No, I have not tried your fabric yet.
Nancy…I think if you read your comment your answer is in there…you may be pleasantly surprised with the Moda fabrics from Primitive Gatherings….but I do starch wet…let dry…iron and then start cutting…I do not use anything but quilt shop quality fabrics.
Please save as PDF or something other then jpeg as I am having trouble saving and printing. Thank you and Thank you for taking your time to designs this for us. Merry Christmas!
Hi Lisa,
Love block 4. I have lusted over red and white quilts for several years – you are pushing me to make this one and I love it! Thanks for the inspiration and the opportunity.
Thank you, I am having fun with the blocks! Could you share the finished size of the quilt? I am thinking I may wish to make extra blocks and the quilt size would give me an idea of how many I may want to add.
Help! I tried to print B & W block 4 (as I had done with the previous three), it was scaled huge and didn’t fit on the page to see all the information. I’m not techie enough to know what to do…
I am loving these blocks, thank you, Lisa! I usually do not stitch with small pieces so it has been a good challenge for me. I am doing one set with your “country” kit, and a second set out of my scrap baskets.
What would be the size of the middle section if one (who is not very good at itty bitty) would make it one solid block? Hope I would not be considered a renegade. Marian
This is such a novice question that I hate to ask it, but I’m new to quilting so there ya go. I am on Block 3 and do not know how to align triangle pieces of varying sizes to end up with the properly sized piece. Take the top G/A/G piece of Block 3. How should I line up the two G pieces to A to sew them properly. Anyone who can help I would really appreciate it. I’m not even sure how I got the first two block done, but I somehow figured those out. Whew! However . . . I love a good challenge. 🙂
This is definitely out of my comfort zone, ( all the small pieces), but I am happy with what I have accomplished so far… Would post a pic if I knew how!
I just finished Block 4. I thought it was going to be my least favorite because it was more complex and I’m so new to quilting. Instead it’s my FAVORITE of all of them so far! My square doesn’t look as good as Lisa’s, but I came close enough and am absolutely thrilled. I am learning so much. Now when I make HSTs and Flying Geese, I am confident and just go for it! Who would have thought? Thank you Lisa from the bottom of my heart. I can’t wait to see the next block!
hi Lisa
Thank you for this BOM. I love the idea of having a quilt for Christmas ready. I would like to ask you if you use a scant quarter as my first block is not lining up. This is my first project from you. I did buy the magazine and congratulations for being on the cover.
Ok, here goes, I am late to start on these, as, I am not exactly new to quilting, just new to cutting the triangles etc. I have several squares done and love them. I am, however, having issue with #4! I cant seem to get the flying geese to fly! lol Am I doing something wrong? I didn’t have trouble with my other squares…(I am not going in order). I line up the bottom of the middle to the side of the sides. first one is fine, second side is never even with top. what am I doing wrong?
