Moda Blockhead Block 32

I hope you are all having a wonderful first week of Fall…We love our four seasons here in WI…I can’t wait to show you some of those great Fall colors as it happens!!!

This week’s block is Dutchman’s Puzzle by Besty Chutchian go here for the PATTERN…I am a Dutchman!  My paternal Grandmother was a DeBruin from Little Chute WI…home of the new windmill from the Netherlands…Do any of our quilters from the Netherlands know who this is?

Windmill and attached visitor center

The Windmill is an authentic 1850s design, based on similar mills from the province of Noord Brabant in the Netherlands, the home province of many of the first Dutch settlers to the area. The 38-meter (125 ft) high wooden windmill was designed by fourth-generation millwright Lucas Verbij of Verbij Hoogmade BV in the Netherlands. Verbij Hoogmade BV designs, builds and restores windmills all over the world, including similar windmills in San Francisco[2] and Sakura, Chiba, Japan. The windmill was partially constructed in the Netherlands and shipped for final assembly in Little Chute.

And they actually have a little quilt show each year!!!

Ok..enough of the minor history lesson of my hometown…

Here is my block…nice easy block…went together fast…If you do not like to do the flip and stitch methods as shown in the pattern…cut the 2 dark squares 4 1/4″ -cut in half twice and then 8 light squares 2 3/8″ cut in half once and then stitch them the old fashioned way…please remember to heavily starch those fabrics before beginning…

Question of the week – Is there something quilt-related on your “bucket list”?  A quilt you’d like to make, show you’d like to see, quilter you’d like to meet, etc.

There are so many things I want to do yet…I want to go to Sisters OR for that quilt show…I would love to make a larger hex quilt…maybe start traveling internationally for some quilting events…those are the things on my bucket list…

Hope you are all having as much fun as I am with this…Piece on…my friends..LB

Make sure to visit the others as well!!!

Someday I want to do a Mariners Compass quilt, or an Ozark Beauty. I had some great fun with your HST blocks last week, using up some salvaged snips from a larger quilt. Couldn’t bear to waste so many potential HST, so I sewed them together as I pieced and used them for a border on the original, but I still had a small bag leftover. Last week I squared them up into 1 5/8 inch squares, and made some scrappy versions of six of your great blocks.😄 By using 3/16 inch seams I got little 5 inch blocks for a table topper! Thanks so much for sharing your artistic talent, piecing skill and beautiful fabric designs with us!
