“Little Man” fun…

Since I have been home, I have spent lots of time with my “little man”…Here at home…just hanging out…

The first thing he says to me is…Mimi what are we going to bake today? We then pull out the book and look at all the recipes and pictures…When I was reading the names of the recipes…he recognized Dark Chocolate…as you know he loves my stash of dark chocolates in my sewing studio…

So we pulled all the ingredients…I have to line them up in order now…because…I easily get distracted or I just can’t remember.  But I sometimes have forgotten an ingredient…but now my newest method of lining them all up makes it easier…Then “little man” steps up and starts putting in the ingredients…and watches them mixWhen we are all done mixing- he can’t wait to lick the paddle…then he moves on to the spatula…Then it’s time to scoop them out..onto the baking sheetsand he doesn’t let me do it…HE has to do it…lol….He is using the large cookie scoop for this recipe…he also was in a hurry to put the dark chocolate chips in before I realized they should have been hand mixed in…the mixer kind of broke them up and you can’t see them…but you can when you eat them!!

we packaged some to freeze and bake later.

They came out so pretty!!!  Click Dark Chocolate Chip Cookies -for another great recipe..Taste testing in the car…and yes..I let him drive his car in the house…he can’t wreck my “real” distressed floor!!

Then we spent the rest of the day…building his new Lego Fire Truck...he has a birthday coming soon so…I might have had a gone a little overboard with his presents so why not play with one now!!!  This one is also easy for Grandma’s to help put together…lol! He was so proud of it after it was assembled!!! He is also starting to play very well by himself…This lego table I found at a flea market was the best $10 bucks I have spent on him…he also has his Daddy’s and Uncle’s legos to play with…I only saved the big duple legos…
I then had to “pack” him a lunch …after lunch we played hide and seek…then he played with Papa when he got home…all I heard was giggles…Nick also wanted me to Thank all of you who asked about him at Road to California…He is doing pretty well after both of his surgeries…the Doc just tells him it will take time to feel 100% and to get his hormone levels to where they need to be, they are watching and testing all the time…He currently is in “Man-0-pause”that was the Docs term…he’s having lots of hot flashes and other such things happening…it’s kind of funny…but not to him of course…He is planning on being in Paducah!!!

Time to start stitching for today!!! I am working on setting 98 blocks…and I know…I will show you soon when I have something substantial to show..I won’t wait til I’m done…I want you to see it in person…not just on paper…We are talking about Triangle Gatherings…of course.

Don’t assume people have a plan. They might be waiting for you to tell them the plan.

I think little man might have a baking and pastry future. My son is an alum of Johnson and Wales, they have a school in Denver lol. My son was two when we knew that something in the culinary world would be in his future. I love your guys enthusiasm 🙂 Glad to hear the good news for Nick. Many blessings and prayers.

Hi, Lisa. I love seeing all your articles about cooking with your Little Man. I have a great grand daughter who also enjoys cooking at grandmas. Each time Ava and I cook something, we print the recipe and write notes on it about our day. We made a special notebook for her to save her recipes in and she’ll have a nice treasure of memories as she grows up and has her own kitchen. I’ll bet Little Man might like to have his own Recipes With Grandma notebook, too!

He is getting so big already! What a treat to spend so much time with your grandson. Mine are so faraway, but I had them close til the oldest was 4 1/2. She is now 13, and we have become traveling grandparents. We will make the 9 hour drive to Idaho next week to watch her in a play, and see her younger sister’s basketball game. Can’t wait to see your triangle gatherings finish.I feel so proudl I finished by Jan 31! I think I am going to do 1″ creamy sashing with scrappy cornerstones so I can have a big, king size quilt with all those zillions of blocks! I might need a consult on what color moda bella to use. Thanks for sharing your sweet day, and glad Nick is healing.

The pics are amazing. When my older grandson was little, we use to make books. (Can’t tell his grandma is a teacher!) I would take pictures of what we did during his visit and make books. He would tell me what to write with each picture. So much fun! Those were precious times! 🍪

I have been watching my grandson this week too, unfortunately he has the fever flu. I can’t wait until this flu season is over.

My niece, at age 2 loved to help bake….anyone baking, she was there , sitting on the counter ready to help. One day, Grandma was making a chocolate cake from scratch and my niece was helping to add ingredients . She picked the dishcloth off the counter and pitched it in ,too. Grandma calmly took it out and baked the cake…..was glad to only hear the story, not partake of any of the cake !

That is what a grandma is for. Cookies, sitting on counter, riding in the house, legos all over.  I did the same thing. It is the best time when they are little like that, but old enough to really have a good time. Grandma time is wonderful. I still have a great time with my girls. Best part of my life.Regards to Nick.Marilyn

SOOO glad that you “live” in your beautiful new home and let little man be a kid at Grandma’s. I don’t get people who have little ones in their life and a house that’s not child proofed!! They grow up so fast! Glad to see Nick is doing better. We will be in Paducah and you know we’ll stop by and harass him!!

Brings back special memories with my grandma. ❤️ You should consider writing books someday (besides your journal which I’m excited to be receiving this weekend!). You have a lovely way of speaking through the written word. Tell Nick to hang in there, it will get better. Hugs, Jakey

Can’t wait to do this with my new grandson! My son and I used to play “Cooking show” when he was a toddler. Line up all the ingredients and bake something fun. He’d explain to the imaginary TV audience what we were doing. He’s a great cook now too.

I am so taken with the red, white, and blue “Liberty Gatheriungs” you used in the Moda Blockheads quilt that I am trying to get the fabric that is required for it. Then , I figure, given enough fabric I will be able to make something like it. I have managed to find a “tower” of fat quarters of the Liberty Gatherings but am thinking that is not enough for the stars and other triangles that are used in the setting. please let me know what else from this line I will need as well as the smount of the Bella solid you used as sashing, etc. Best Regards – Rosann

I am having problems with the 2″ star pattern. It may be because I am not paper piecing. I don’t understand the 4″ squares for the geese. Can you help? Do you mark and cut it in 8 squares?
