I know…I’m late to the party…but I got my crap together and here is my blockhead block!!! The pattern is posted on Lynne’s blog and in the Moda Block Head Facebook group in the Files. If you have not joined it yet…just ask and we will get in you into the group and you can see all the inspiring blocks…
I’m thinking I want fabrics that would look good in one of Joanna’s Fixer Upper houses, I am going to Waco this summer and I am getting excited!!!…So I am going to have this nice medium grey as the constant in every block…and then use creams, greys, light, medium and dark blues…Here are the fabrics I have picked…and yes, those on the left are wovens…36 Fat 8ths…if those wovens are starched there is no problem using them and there are so many wovens in my antique quilts that I must put them in!!! They are laying on the contant grey main fabric…and then I tossed in a charm pack for a little extra variety…the problem…I only have about 20-25 of those charm packs…We are going to offer this bundle of fabrics as a kit until the charms run out. Then we will figure something else out if we have to…and to sweeten the deal…if you purchase our kit…we will send you an Auriful Thread FREE! That’s about a $14 dollar value!!! The kit is $100…thats 36 Fat 8’s for $54, 5 yards of grey yardage $35 and then the charm pack for $10! Pretty good deal I think!!! Plus the thread!!! ORDER KIT HERE
So if you are stuggling on what to pull from your stash…or you not happy with what you have picked out OR you just didn’t start yet….this will make it much easier on you!!!
Here is my plan…
Also..I have used this new ruler…for the folded corners…It’s the mini, which I love to handle much better than the first one…If you didn’t buy the first one…I think this size is the only size you need…unless you are making quilts with huge pieces and I guess I do that sometimes…especially with my flannel…so now that I talked that through I feel better that I actually have both…Here is the ruler..and how I used it…If you NEED this ruler click HEREto purchase it…Then just stitch this for the units in the block….make sure you change the direction of the 2nd units…
MAKE SURE… you go and visit ALL the other MODA designer’s Blogs or Instagrams….They are all AWESOME! The blocks will all be different and super cool…you can familiarize yourself with the new gals before they post!!! ALL for now…Lisa
Waco! I’m going too wanna sit with me on the bus 🚌? And now I know what I’m going to do with my fat quarter tower of lakeside Gatherings (lol there’s something to be said for hoarding your fabric lines)!
Lisa… I’m intrigued by the ruler!! Is it easier to cut/snip the corner off then sew your seam, instead of drawing the line, or ironing the line by folding? It looks like it would be a lot faster! Thanks, Pris in Idaho
I have chosen greys, creams and black for my color selection but have not done the first block yet as I was still trying to decide whether or not I wanted more color. Well then there was your post only using blues instead of black and it looks beautiful…I love it so I’m now ready to start! And I just ordered the ruler!
Hello Lisa-
I have decided to make your version of Blockheads 2 as I thought your Blockheads 1 was lovely! Question I have purchased the kit but not in time to get the charm pack. Will I need the charm pack to make all the blocks? Looking forward to making the little project at Quiltstock – see you then.
Thank you so much for your tip sheets. I’m not sure I could have finished my practice block without looking at this post (about a zillion times) I am so glad that I got the opportunity to purchase your kit and participate in round two. The little 6 inch ruler I bought from your shop last year sure has helped with cutting up those little squares.
Wovens and quilt cottons – I was always afraid to mix different types of fabrics because they would shrink different and distort the block. Is this something I should be worried about?
Please be aware your photo has been stolen and posted on Facebook without giving credit to you in a Facebook group called Quilting for Everyone. I try to report these to Facebook and the proper image owner anytime I can find them. It’s a beautiful block and I hate that people keep doing this. https://www.facebook.com/groups/quiltingforeveryonee/permalink/1335859490532021/?mibextid=Nif5oz
