Did you see this? Word- transfer tutorial

Just want to do a quick post and tutorial on this adorable quilt…and how to transfer a word you wish to stitch on to a dark fabric…and any of the underlined content here are links to bring you on where you can find out more info and prices…

On the Farm….is a quilt with an option for wool or flannel appliqués… You can buy it as a FULL KIT or we are running as a Block of the Month.on-the-farm-500x500

But I’d love to show you how easy it was to stitch these words…

The names of the animals are on black flannel…and it sometimes is hard to see the letters through the light box…so  what do we do then?

Trace the words on the top non-tacky side of the Press n Seal…this its what it looks like…image.png

use a permanent fine marker

Cut them out and center the word on the fabric and press it securely in place.

I stitched the little ends of the letters first…

Once the ends are finished…then stitch the long lines…

IMG_0651

Once it is all stitched…use this tweezer  because it is super sharp and has a nice contact at the point for picking and grabbing.  Trust me it matters…your eyebrow tweezer will not do a great job…

Now using your scissors cut between the letters

Then pull out the P &S in a sideways motion to pull it out from under the thread without pulling it up and pulling the threads…It will take a bit to get started but then when you get the hang of it is it much easier…

Now if your stem stitch does not look as nice as mine…you might want to get my just released book…after 20 years of teaching wool work and stitchery…I have put all the little secrets in here to make you the best stitcher possible!!!!

This book just shipped in the last week to all my pre-orders..(I thank you so much)…if you received it…I would love if you could take a minute and make an honest comment at the end of this post…then those of you who are on the fence…can read them and see if you have to have this in your library!!!! Here is a link to order the book.   Wool, Needle & Thread BookB1524-WoolNeedleThread-WEB

I will do another post soon about what’s inside the book soon!  Thanks so much and I hope you enjoyed this mini tutorial…

Have a great weekend! LB

  1. Thanks Lisa for this great book, it’s the best, just like taking a class from you, and the pictures are great.

  2. Sat down this morning with my stitching friends to look at this book. We were all very impressed with the photos!! They showed every step that Lisa was talking about. No doubt this book will be by my side whenever I want to stitch something. Particularly if using a new or different stitch. Lots of helpful tips along the way as well!!

  3. I love this book! I’ve learned so much in one sitting, and now I’m stitching with it at my side because it is chock-full of fantastic tips and clear, concise directions. It has so many great detailed pictures and diagrams that are easy to follow. Lisa has created an invaluable, one-of-a-kind resource for wool stitchers. I’m so glad I added this to my library of quilt books, since it is one I will turn to again and again😊👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻

  4. Love your new Wool, Needle & Thread book. I feel more confident moving forward with sewing my On The Farm quilt. Looking forward to another of your tutorials.

  5. This stitching book is amazing. It is like taking a class from Lisa. Wonderful real photos and instructions. I would DEFINITELY recommend this book. Thanks Lisa.

  6. Do like the book very much and recommending it to the groups I host. I use the press and seal method, but of course you had helpful tips. Thank you!

  7. I own every book you have written Lisa, or certainly darn near! This book is wonderful! I am currently stitching my wool blocks of the week and have enjoyed referring to your new book. Your class I attended earlier this year really helped me perfect my stitches…I am now thrilled to move past the button hole stitch onto more challenging stitches that this summer blocks have encouraged 🙂

  8. Lisa, I have been hoping that you would write a book on your wool techniques and you answered wishes, love this book, thank you.

  9. Just received the stitching book the other day. I’ve already referred to it several times. I’ve taken sit n sews with Lisa and this book reinforces and enhances what I’ve learned from her and since I forget things sometimes I have this wonderful reference book to refer to and get back on track. It’s like Lisa sitting next to me. Thanks for doing this, Lisa.

  10. I just got this book and would highly recommend it. I took a wool class from Lisa at Road to CA but having the book is so nice. Lisa does such a good job explaining every step and there are plenty of photos included so you can actually see what she is talking about in the book. If you’re on the fence, just get it. You won’t be disappointed in the least. It is well worth the money. Thank you Lisa for putting this book together! You are amazing and such a good teacher and friend! ❤️

  11. Can’t wait to get home and get mine! I am so thankful that you took the time to write this book for us. There is so much I need to know. Love this tutorial and pretty much everything you design.

  12. Can’t wait to get home and get mine! I am so thankful that you took the time to write this book for us. There is so much I need to know. Love this tutorial and pretty much everything you design.

  13. This is by far the best quilt book I have in my “quilt library”. The pictures are so succinct that this left-hander can easily figure out how to do the stitches. Lisa, thank you so much for putting out such a helpful tool, for “seasoned” quilters and newbies alike. I LOVE the book and went and had it spiral bound because I knew I would be using it a lot!

  14. This book is a “must have” if you are a wool appliqué fan. The instructions are easy to follow, with photos to take you step by step. Thanks, Lisa, for the great tutorials!

  15. Best book ever. So glad I preordered it. Feels like I am sitting in a workshop with Lisa sitting at my side. A must purchase.

    1. A great guide. Clear pictures and the steps are all photographed. Descriptions are easy to follow and as one who has been stitching wool for years there were a number of tips that I had never heard before! Thank you for sharing your process.

  16. Lisa, you are simply Brilliant!!! Thank you so much for sharing all of your talent with us.

  17. A MUST HAVE reference book! I will not only use Wool, Needle and Thread for stitching on wool, but I plan to use it as a reference when embroidering other projects. Thank you Lisa for giving detailed pictures along with simple instructions! 🌻

  18. I just got my book today and it truly looks amazing. Great pictures and lots of details which make it easy to understand how to do the stitches. Thank you for an excellent resource book!

  19. The book is amazing! It is easy to understand, the pictures are clear and really useful. I have collected a nice little library of embroidery books over the years and this is above and beyond all of them. CONGRATULATIONS! And thank you Lisa for continuing to challenge and inspire us.

  20. Unfortunately I have never taken a class from Lisa, but this book is the next best thing! Great instructions and pictures. So glad I bought this!

  21. I received your new book this week and OMG, I love it. What a great job you did on it. I have several books of this type, this one is the best. Thank you so much for this book as well as all you do for the quilter/stitcher out here. I love that after all the years you’ve been doing this work that you still have so much excitement for it. You energize all of us with you enthusiasm. Thank you.

  22. I received your new book this week. What a great resource for the beginner as well as the experienced wool stitcher. It has a ton of great tips and techniques. A must have for everyone.

  23. I received my pre-ordered book yesterday and have not had had a chance to look at it in depth, but from what I have seen it is absolutely beautiful! The photography is amazing. I can’t wait to do a project with the book as a guide.

  24. What a terrific book! I’m sure I’ll be referring to “Wool, Needle & Thread” until I join the great cloud of stitchers in the hereafter … it is just that helpful! And now I have more projects added to my “Wool To Do” list. I love the Autumn Table Mat, followed closely by the White Geraniums Table Mat. Thank you, Lisa!

  25. Just received my new book and love it! So much information! Terrific book for sure! Love working with wool.

  26. I had the good fortune of taking a class by Lisa and this book is just like having Lisa stitching with you! Talk about timing…it arrived the day that I was leaving for a week long retreat with my good friends. We have all been to The Gathering and very much enjoyed our time with Lisa and of course shopping at P.G. and meeting all her wonderful staff.

I have read the book cover to cover. It is a Great, Great Book … be sure to buy it!!

  27. I received my Wool, Needle and Thread book yesterday. It’s a must have. It’s like having Lisa stitching with you in your home. I had a class from her and got hooked on wool. This book is just awesome. Thank you Lisa

  28. I got my book this week and it is all I hoped it would be. Lisa shares in one place an easy to reference collection of techniques for success for wool applique. The book details which tools, such as tweezers, she has found to work best, to the care of those tools, such as your (critical) steam iron. It includes a stitch dictionary for the stitches she uses most often. I was amazed at all the step by step photos. Open the book to most any page and one side is ALL photos, up close, detailed, so you can see exactly what the text is describing. The only thing that could be better is if you could look over Lisa’s shoulder as she did it, but even then I’m not sure you’d get a closer look.

  29. I used this book as a reference the very first day I received it! I am so glad I have it! You won’t be sorry😋

  30. Lisa, your wool stitch book is amazing!! The detailed photos and instructions are invaluable!! Something I will constantly be referring to!! I highly recommend it to anyone one who loves to do wool stitching and who wants to learn for the first time!!!💕

  31. Love your new book! So happy to learn the colonial knot for a project I’m currently working on. Also found I’ve been going in the wrong direction on my blanket stitch. Oh, if I could only stitch as well as you…..I’ll need some practice.

  32. I guess I wanted it so much I ordered two!!! They both came, so I have gifted the second one to a dear friend who is just new to stitching. I know it will be of great help to her. Thanks for all you do Lisa!!

  33. The book is not only gorgeous but shows in detail how wool stitches are done. I am still learning how to perfect my stitches and very happy to have the visuals in front of me. The projects in the book are also very nice.

  34. I pre-ordered the book and got it last week. I was so excited that I read it cover-to-cover as soon as I sat down. I love it! I was worried that the pictures wouldn’t be enough because I’m a video person really. However, the pictures and advice are wonderful. I also like the education you give on tools, needles, threads, etc. Such a great book to have for reference. I’ve done that twice already! Thanks Lisa!!!

  35. I’ve been stitching since I was young, but I read this book from cover to cover and learned of many new, helpful tips! Looking forward to putting them into practice.

  36. This book is amazing. It covers everything beginning to end. I have already recommended it to a friend. Great job! Love it!

  37. Thank you Lisa for the tutorial on using Press n Seal. I’ve never used it to stitch with before. And… your book is absolutely fabulous! It has pages and pages of stitches in it and even some patterns at the end. I preordered mine and I love it. Wish I would have had it sooner. It is well worth the cost. One of my “best” in my stitch library.
