Here’s to New Beginnings in 2022!

Wishing you all the best for 2022! Between the construction and opening of the new retail shop and retreat house, last year sure was a whirlwind blur! I can’t thank you enough for shopping, sharing and stitching along with us both in person, and on our social media platforms. We have big plans for 2022, and hope we can continue to be a part of your life through the art of stitching!

I wanted to start off this year on a positive note so I picked out this great quilt from my archives to share with you all. It was designed a long, long time ago – 2004 to be exact – and today you can get a FREE printable PDF by clicking the link below!I figured since all the Christmas decorations are down, now it’s time for blue and white in honor of the Winter season (Ok… Maybe Nick still has yet to take the tree down – that’s his job every year). “Streak of Lightning” is a beautiful blue and white quilt that can be done as a full-size quilt (70″ x 82″) or as a lap quilt (40″ x 58″).

“Streak of Lightning”  was originally designed by the Lincoln’s Ladies Club. The club specializes in recreating and designing quilts based on earlier time periods, using reproduction fabrics. The group was founded by Carole Charles and myself back at the Menasha, WI location of Primitive Gatherings, long before we built our new facility in Larsen, WI.

Take a look at how I’ve displayed this beautiful work of art in my own house for January! I just love this black setting for the Blue & Cream HSTs – or it actually could be a really dark blue – but ours is black…

I especially love how these colors tie right into my Anchor Point decor. Even though it’s the middle of Winter, blue and white together feels light at airy to me. Fresh and crisp like a cold Winter’s day!

If you’re looking for a smaller project, don’t worry! This quilt can be done at full size or as a darling lap quilt. Either way, I hope you enjoy it! New beginnings and a new project for 2022!

I live on a lake in beautiful Butte Des Morts, WI. I have three sons: Lance (forever 29), Luke 33, Jake 32, and two grand-babies, Little Man and O-Bug. I've been married to the love of my life Nick, since 1998 when we started our crazy adventure together! I am a quilter, rugger, and gardener. I also love to cook when I get the chance. Thanks for visiting and supporting Primitive Gathering Quilt Shop where I try to bring you the best Moda fabrics and wool projects anywhere!

  1. What a great idea to display blue for the winter. I hope to finish one while at your retreat center o February 14th.

  2. Thank you for this wonderful pattern, Lisa! While blue and white quilts are perfect for this time of year,
I’m also imagining this in your American Gatherings fabrics……of which I have waaaaay too much of!
(if that is even a possibility!)
Happy New Year to you and thank you again for all the great fabrics and fun projects you bring to us.
Urban Farmhouse Gatherings ll, my absolute favorite!
Hoping to make it to your new shop one of these days. Road trip!

  3. Lisa~~|using my Wool Needle and Thread book this am. I am making a special sweatshirt jacket for my sis~~she lost her son ten years ago and gifted his Levi’s to the Prison mens coat closet. She doesn’t know I kept a pair and am using them for the pocket and the Levi label…I am using your stitches to decorate it! I started with machine stitches but they aren’t nearly as pretty as Valdani and “by hand”. Your book is such a gift….thank you so much. Hope to see you this year.

  4. Thank you Lisa! When I started quilting some 35 yrs ago,my son was 2 then.. he loved to dig and play trucks outdoors. So in the evening I would cut out pieces and hand pieced miniatures while he played. One of those was a streak of lightning ,in blue and white,my favorite color combo. Anyways I still have and love my not so perfect, streak of lightning!!

  5. Thanks for the beautiful pattern! Would it be possible for you to provide the fabric requirements too?

  6. Thank You Lisa and Happy New Year to you ! What a fun project for these cold winter months when I’m so happy to spend extra time in My sewing room….. So special to see it displayed on your table. Quilts are my favorite tablecloths !

    1. Hi Cece! It’s cold here too in WI, especially this week. We’ve bee seeing single digits – which I agree, is the perfect time to hunker down in your sewing room! Just a heads up, the first post went up with only two of the three pages of instructions available for the free download. Sorry for the mix-up. A revised post with fabric requirements is now posted! 🙂

    1. Hi Paula! You’re very welcome – and you’re also very right. The first post did indeed go up with only two of the three pages of instructions available for the free download. Sorry for the mix-up. A revised post with fabric requirements is now posted! 🙂

  7. I LOVE this quilt- as soon as i saw you wrapped in it, I thought – I need to make that — do we used 2.5” half squares to get the correct sizes of the quilt!? Thank you so much for sharing — just need a bit more information.

    1. You’re very welcome Sharard! FYI, the first post went up with only two of the three pages of instructions. Sorry for the mix-up. A revised post with fabric requirements is now posted! 🙂

  11. Thank you for this beautiful quilt pattern. Can you give us an idea of how many different blues/indigos you need for the quilt and yardage for the black? Or did I miss this info when I looked at the pattern?

  12. I must have missed the yardage requirements for this pattern. Also, for the triangle papers, what size? Looks like it may be 3″ finished?

  13. Happy New Year! When I first saw this quilt I thought I love this, but I don’t think I can make it. After looking at the pattern, it’s totally doable. I also display blue and white quilts in winter, and blue and white along with red and white quilts are my favorites. Thank you for the free pattern, and all you do.

  14. Lisa I love this quilt! Thank you so much for the pattern. By the way I love the picture of you all wrapped in a quilt! Happy New Year and hope to see you soon!

  16. Thank You Very Much Lisa, I love blue and white quilts and this one is so AWESOME! Great was to start a brand New Year! Very generous of you! Happy New Year to you and Nick and the rest of your family!

  17. Thank you so much for this pattern. It is perfect for winter. Is it possible to make it without using the triangle papers?
No one sells them where I live.

  18. Thank you Lisa for the pattern. Happy New Year and here’s to New Beginnings 2022! Staying cozy and warm, finishing up my 3 projects from Naughty or Nice Retreat! Hope to see you again this year!

  19. Thanks for sharing this pattern. I am looking forward to gathering fabric to give this a try. By the way, I love the light hanging above the table that the quilt is covering

  20. Happy New Year to you and all your great staff!! Let 2022 be the year for new friends, new projects and new roads!!!

  21. Do not see the Page 3 button anywhere on the blog. Also looked under pattern corrections. Where does Page 3 appear? Seeing two places to download Pages 1 and 2 pdfs, but not Page 3.

  22. Triangle paper is mentioned in the pattern. How do we get triangle paper? I have looked over your sight and can’t find anything about it except for a tutorial on how to use it which also brings up the question of what size do we need once we find out what it is and where to get it? Thank you! Your quilt is BEAUTIFUL and looks lovely on the table! I have never thought to do that and will be in the future.

    1. Hi there! You can find triangle paper of many sizes right on our website!
