Hey Blockheads! Happy Wednesday AND Valentine’s Day to you all! I can’t think of a better Valentine than a brand spankin’ new MBH5 block assignment to tackle, so here we go! Block #7 of MBH5 – Group Two is called, “Star Bloom” and is brought to us by my fellow Moda sister, Vanessa Goertzen of Lella Boutique. Vanessa describes her block as being much more straightforward than what you might think at first glance. The block is made up of eight snowball blocks (or in other words, each square has 4 “easy corner triangles” added to it) with a simple square for the center.

If the block seems complicated to you, don’t worry. Vanessa has several tips and tricks to help you along, which you can find by visiting the Blockheads 5 Main Page. As I mentioned last week, Moda has also been providing a weekly video tutorial for each block in Group Two of the series. You can follow along with quilting blogger Anna Dineen as she takes you through Star Bloom step-by-step by clicking HERE!
Like all the MBH5 blocks, “Star Bloom” makes it fun to explore with different color combinations. For my blocks I’m using Bella Solid Silver (9900 183) for the background of my quilt, and Bella Solid American Blue (9900 174) consistently throughout the entire thing. For any additional colors I’m using a combination of the soft, muted collection of Bella Solids that we put together for this project called “Sundown,” along with a new playful and vibrant Bella Solids collection called “Cozy.” Both collections are available for purchase on our website by clicking the buttons below!

What an awesome combination of colors! It reminds me of if Skittles were a fabric line… Anyway, If you have any questions regarding these blocks, or anything else for that matter, please feel free to leave me a comment here on the blog! You can also visit the Blockheads 5 Main Page for more information on Moda Blockheads 5 and how it all works by clicking HERE. I also recommend hooking up with the virtual Blockheads community for even more support by checking out their Official Moda Blockheads Facebook Group.
Well, well, well! I just got a weather notification on my phone letting me know that supposedly we’ll be seeing some accumulating snow over night and into tomorrow. Woo hoo! Better late than never, I guess – not that it’ll be anything significant enough to make up for our lost ski season, but maybe it’ll help what we have left of it last a little longer. Either way – rain, snow, or shine – I will see you tomorrow for our next episode of LIVE with Lisa at 1:00 p.m. CST on my YouTube Channel STITCH with Lisa Bongean. I’ll be checking in with you LIVE from The Gathering where my “Love is All You Need” winter retreat will be in full-swing! Then, right after that we’ll jump back over to the studio for another fun-filled hour of CommentSold. Until then, take care and happy stitching! ~Lisa
