Catchin’ Up with Moda Blockheads 5

Hey Blockheads, long time no blog! I apologize to all of you who have been so diligently following along with my MBH5 progress because as you know, things have been a bit on the chaotic side around here lately. You know how it goes – life takes over and certain end up slipping to the back burner before you even realize it. No worries though! After an afternoon of laser focus on MBH5 and MBH5 only, I’m happy to say I’m all caught up! Let’s take a look at my blocks…

First up we have block #2-15, “Keepsake” by Ann Sutton of Bunny Hill Designs. Ann especially loves the style of a Churn Dash quilt block, so she thought implementing one into her MBH5 bock design would fun. In case you’re not familiar, the Churn Dash pattern is a very old 9-Patch quilt block design that originated between 1800 and 1849. Its name comes from the block’s triangle and rectangle shaped perimeter combined with the center square, which some people think resembles a butter churn. “Churn Dash” is directly taken from the word “churn” (or mixing container) and “dash” (stick). Interesting!

“Keepsake” is made up of flying geese and half-square triangle units, making it simple and fun to put together. As usual I’ve made a few slight adjustments to the instructions to avoid unnecessary cutting, but you should do whatever works best for you!

Next on the list we have block #2-16, “Double Star” by Joanna Figueroa of Fig Tree & Co. Joanna says that she has a hard time picking favorite blocks to make, but doing a double star is at the top of her list. She enjoys a block like “Keepsake” not only because she gets a “twofer” in the star department, but also because it gives her more fabric options to play with. Both great reasons! I had fun with it because you know me – I love stars! The more the better.

Last but not least is block #2-17, “Life of the Party” by Vanessa Christenson of V and Co. She describes “Life of the Party” as being a block that represents allowing yourself to be a little free and a little fun in color. She gives you some guidelines, but encourages you to have fun with this block and step outside your comfort zone. She wants you to, “go ahead and be the life of the party!”

Whew! FINALLY caught up… for now anyway! It’s back to the grindstone I go, but I will be back tomorrow LIVE on my YouTube channel STITCH with Lisa Bongean at 1:00 CST! Then, directly after that we’ll hop over to the CommentSold studio to do a little bit of catching up in the retail therapy department! You can watch LIVE with Lisa by clicking the STITCH icon below, and catch CommentSold directly after via our Primitive Gatherings CommentSold app. See you soon!!! ~Lisa
