Scandinavian Christmas

Are you ready for your next quilt-along challenge? Great news! The Scandinavian Christmas Quilt-Along is coming to Primitive Gatherings this August!

If you’re a fan of red and white Christmas quilts, this QAL should be right up your alley! We’ll be making a red and white, row-by-row quilt using my new “Dear Santa” fabric line that will measure approximately 72″ x 84 ” when complete (multiple variations in size are possible depending on the sashing and borders you choose). You will have two layout options to choose from; one being a simple row-by-row quilt, while the other incorporates the “Santa Panel” from my “Dear Santa” fabric line as the middle. The choice is yours!!!

You all know how much I love my mystery quilts so I figured, why not make this one a mystery too? What that means is exactly what it sounds like – the final quilt design and appearance of the quilt are a secret and will be kept under lock and key until the very end! I know, I know – I’m so mean! I realize some of you have a lot of trouble committing to making a quilt you’ve never seen before, and I get it! I also say live a little… and TRUST ME! Stitchers who have participated in my mystery quilt-alongs before will attest to the fact that I would never steer you wrong. Not to mention, the price is right! Each block pattern download is only five bucks, and will remain that price throughout the QAL!

The Scandinavian Christmas Quilt-Along will run from August, 15th through November 14th, 2024, ending just in time for Christmas! Blocks will be released every other week by 5:00 p.m. CST on the dates listed below.

For the full details on the Scandinavian Christmas Quilt-Along I invite you to visit the official Primitive Gatherings Scandinavian Christmas Quilt-Along Information Page by clicking HERE! There you will find everything you need to participate in this seasonal quilt-along, including links to quilt kit options, the required triangle paper, and to each block download as they are released. As always, if you have any questions please feel free to give the shop a call at 920-722-7233 during our normal business hours. You may also email store@primitivegatherings.us for assistance!

Alright, everyone – the weekend is here and it looks like it’s going to be another hazy, HOT, and beautiful few days! Don’t let all this talk of Christmas fool ya… We are most definitely in the “dog days” of WI summer, and I’m loving every minute of it – rain or shine! I am so looking forward to a bit of much needed time at home for some R&R after several days of back-to-back teaching during my summer Naughty or Nice retreat this last week. It was a total blast! So much so that this girl needs to put her feet up for a minute. I suggest you do the same… with some stitching to work on in your lap, of course! But before we all run off into the weekend sunset, I need to give a shout-out to Renae W. and Susan W. for leaving such nice comments for me here on the blog recently (check your email for a prize confirmation if you think this is you)! Both of them will be getting something nice from Heidi’s prize vault to say thanks because I really appreciate it! Want a chance to win a prize too? You know what to do… Like and share this post, and leave me a comment, and you could be next! Have a great weekend and I will see you Monday! ~Lisa

I love Lisa’s mystery quilts. I have made several and even won “Best of Show” for one of hers in 2023. They never disappoint. Just jump in with both feet and live a little.

Love your mystery quilt alongs, Lisa! Every one I have participated in has been a lot of fun, the quilts have been amazing, and you and your crew have provided tons of support. I started embroidering my panel and will be working on it for an hour or so everyday so it is ready when we get to that part. (I have an ouchy tendon in my hand and am on a restriction. 😪 ) I am looking forward to seeing the fabrics in my kit!

Is the Scandinavian Christmas sewalong something that would work with Snowman Gatherings fabrics instead? I have it on order, and have also been wondering if the snowman panel comes with the fat quarter bundle, or I need to purchase one seperately?

It sure would, Patty! Great idea.

Half inch triangle paper…. yikes. I do love how your QAL have challenged me and pushed me out of my comfort zone. Looking forward to another PG QAL.

Can you please do a little video about embroidering these panels? I know how to do stem stitch, but never progressed past dishtowels! What is the proper way to begin and end our threads? Should we put some kind of interfacing or backing on the panel before we start? Is it best to start in the center at Santa’s face and work out, or should we start at the outer edge and work in? Lastly, should we or can we wash or clean (or starch) the panel after we have completed the embroidery but before it is sewn into the quilt? My panel is looking pretty wrinkled, plus my dog likes to lay in my lap while I stitch—it’s a little bedraggled. Thanks for any help and advice you can give, Lisa.

I purchased the Starring Santa quilt kit at a local shop yesterday. I went on your blog to see if there were any changes or suggestions before I get started.
Will this be part of the sew a long or is it something different? I just don’t want to mess up and I need all the help I can get.

    1. lisabongean Avatar

Hi Renee! “Starring Santa” is not part of any QAL – it’s just a quilt I designed using the “Dear Santa” fabric and panel You should be good to go!
