Hey everyone! I hope your weekend was full of sunshine, good food, and at least a little bit of relaxation. Mine definitely hit the sweet spot—sunny, productive and just restful enough before diving into another whirlwind week at Primitive Gatherings!
Summer isn’t officially here yet, but it sure feels like it—especially since my annual Red, White, and Blue Retreat kicked off at The Gathering this morning! That means for the next week, I’ll be surrounded by all things patriotic along with a crew of talented quilters who are anxiously chomping at the bit to turn fabric into fireworks. But before things get too rowdy on retreat, I want to make sure our latest addition to the Weekend Edition Quilt Series gets a little love since the short week kind of stole its thunder when it quietly released last Friday.
Everyone—meet the newest member of the Primitive Gatherings Weekend Edition Quilt Series: Feed Sack Bonanza! If you’ve been following the series, it won’t come as a huge surprise that this quilt is super easy, just like a weekend quilt should be! Feed Sack Bonanza basically consists of all super simple rectangle and square units. There’s literally nothing fancy going on here, so there’s really not much to say about the construction.

All you need to get started on Feed Sack Bonanza is four 5″ charm packs (OR one layer cake – the quilt shown is done with Linzee Kull McCray’s Feed Sacks: GOOD WORKS fabric line by Moda), 2 1/2 yards of a light background, 5 yards of backing, and 1/2 yard of binding to complete the quilt. Want a kit? We have them available on our website for your convenience. Prefer a scrappy quilt? Feed Sack Bonanza makes a great scrap buster as well. In fact, this quilt might be on the simple side, but that doesn’t mean you can’t use your own ideas and creativity to do your own modified version, or several versions if you’re feeling motivated. The sky is the limit!
Remember, if you’re having any trouble at all, or need a bit of visual inspiration on how to go about making your version of Feed Sack Bonanza, I put together a short video tutorial that you can watch to help get the ball rolling. You can find on my YouTube channel by clicking the button below!

Whether you’re looking for a quick weekend finish or just something simple to sew among the summer chaos, Feed Sack Bonanza is ready to deliver. It’s easy, it’s fun, and it’s a great way to turn your stash into something that looks way more complicated than it really is. High impact, low stress—that’s the goal.
Do you plan to throw Feed Sack Bonanza onto your “to do” pile? Maybe it’s the fact that my mind is in “red, white, and blue” mode at the moment, but the more I look at this quilt, the more I’m beginning to wonder what it would look like done with the scraps I’ll have left over from a week of red, white, and blue projects… I’m feeling inspired all of the sudden. Are you!?
It’s time to get back to my retreat but I will be back later this week with my next Moda Blockheads 6 block, and updates from retreat land. Have a great week and I’ll see you soon! ~Lisa
