Hey, everyone! Ready for a block that’s as sweet as its name? Block 18 of Moda Blockheads 6 is here — please welcome Sweet Pea by Heather Briggs of My Sew Quilty Life! Structured lines and fun geometric shapes give this pretty block a unique look and balanced feel. At first glance, Sweet Pea might seem like a tricky pattern, but don’t panic! It comes together in a snap with just a few simple units.

This 9-inch beauty is a satisfying mix of flying geese, a fun new pieced unit, and a simple center square. Heather’s design blends traditional elements with her signature soft and playful style, creating a block that looks complicated but is actually quite simple to sew! A few clever twists keep it interesting without turning the project into a headache — just a fun, satisfying block that comes together faster than you can say “sweet pea.”

Now that you’ve got a good look at Sweet Pea, let’s talk fabric! Wondering what will make all those beautiful shapes pop? If you’ve been following the quilt-along for a while, you already know that for my MBH6 quilt I’m sticking with a classic red, white, and blue palette. For the backgrounds, I’ve chosen two gray Bella Solids: Steel 9900 184 (replacing Moda’s original white – temporarily sold out) and Graphite 9900 202 (instead of the navy). Darks aren’t bundled at the moment, so dig into your stash and mix and match to fill in wherever needed.
