Who’s ready to make their Hump Day a little more X-citing? This week’s MBH6 release by Jenelle Kent of Pieces to Treasure is Cross Training. This interesting block takes simple squares and turns them into a striking, interlocking design full of sharp angles and geometric flair. The repeating shapes create a sense of balance and movement that’s both satisfying and surprisingly quick to piece. With a few clever pressing tricks, this stitch-and-flip block comes together faster than you can say “Moda Blockheads.”

The magic of Cross Training lies in its simplicity. Each X unit starts with just a few corner squares, but once you combine them, the design locks together with satisfying precision. Remember — pressing each seam just right isn’t fussy, it’s smart. Trust me, this tiny bit of extra effort will make all the difference in keeping your angles sharp and intersections neat. And once you get into the rhythm of this satisfying block, you’ll marvel at how fast it comes together!

When it comes to color and fabric choices, I’m sticking with my tried-and-true red, white, and blue palette, which has been my go-to from day one. For the backgrounds, I’ve paired Steel 9900 184 (standing in for Moda’s temporarily sold-out white) with Graphite 9900 202 (taking the place of the navy). Both will be back on our website soon, so grab them while you can! If your lights are running low, curated Fat Quarter bundles with 18 light FQs are available for $72. The darks aren’t bundled, so raid your stash, experiment a little, and let each of your blocks shine in its own way.

I love how this block looks all stitched up — something about its sharp angles and clean intersections just works. It’s quick, satisfying, and gives this quilt a little edge without asking for too much! Take your time, press it right, and let this block design do all the heavy lifting while you sit back and get the credit.

Block #20 means that we’re officially staring the home stretch of this QAL right in the face! The last block drops November 12th, and our grand finale hits November 19th, 2025 which means if you’re not on schedule, it’s pretty much crunch time. But don’t stress — take a breath, give yourself credit for how far you’ve come, and get ready to see all those blocks come together in a quilt that’s really going to turn some heads! This is the part where — theoretically — everything starts to click…
