Fashionably Late and Worth the Wait: Meet Barbara

Hey, everyone!

Great news! Barbara’s finally here, and I have to say… fashionably late never looked so good! As I mentioned in my last post, the latest release in my Monthly Mini Quilt Series was supposed to debut while we were all off enjoying the holidays, but between the chaos of the season and the extended winter break, Barbara decided she wasn’t going to rush her entrance for anyone — including me! And honestly? I can respect that. Some things in life are worth a wait, and Barbara is definitely one of them!

I gotta say, my Aunt Barbara was a real original — the kind of woman who did things her own way and didn’t ask permission (she’s one of the people I learned it from!). One of my favorite memories of her is randomly going over to her house one afternoon and finding her in the backyard, shooting a handmade bow and arrow at a target. At that moment I remember thinking she was just about the coolest person alive!!! How many aunts do you know who spend their time perfecting their archery skills in between hanging socks on the line? That memory has stuck with me for all these years, and honestly, it feels fitting that her quilt showed up today exactly when it wanted to — late, unapologetic, and on its own terms — just like Barbara! She really is a real kick-butt kinda lady and I’ll always love her for that!

Now here’s the best part about this pretty little quilt… remember Jeanie from earlier in the series? If you just so happened to buy the kit for Jeanie, it’s a sweet deal for you because that means you already have half of what you need to complete Barbara as well. If you recall, each of the mini quilts in the second round of my mini series is named after one of my mom’s sisters, or another important and inspirational woman in my life. Since my Aunt Barbara and Aunt Jeanie are twin sisters, their quilts naturally share the same dark fabrics. By design, Barbara can be made from the leftover fabrics from the Jeanie kit. That means all you need to complete it is the background and border fabric package, which you can get by clicking the button below. The lovely Barbara finishes at 18″ x 18″.

Well friends, it’s getting late, it’s dark outside, and I think it’s time we all call it a night. But before we hang it up — quick reminder that I’ll be back LIVE tomorrow on my YouTube channel STITCH with Lisa Bongean at 10:30 a.m. CST, which YES — is earlier than our usual time of 1:00 p.m. I’ve got a plane to catch later in the day because I’m heading to Florida for a rug hooking retreat that I’m super excited about (more on that later)! Make sure you set a notification or reminder for the early time slot so you don’t miss your required weekly dose of fun… tune in by clicking the STITCH icon below. See you bright and early! Until then, enjoy your evening… and try to stay out of trouble! Take care, everyone. ~Lisa

Woo! Woo!! Love to hear about this lady!! I love how you are always coming up with ways to make the piecers scraps work. Back from how I realized that your lines of fabric keep the hues similar so that each successive line melds with the last. One line of your patriotic melds with the last…
Your lines of blue & grey flannels can be intermixed. Even the last few lines of Fall & Spring fabrics and the colors of the Christmas lines. These are more subtle choices by you that say so much. Thanks for this and so much more that being a PG fan has brought to me. – Darci Strobel
