Hey, everyone!
What do sun-drenched meadows, wildflowers, and buzzing bees have in common with this month’s Weekend Edition Quilt Series? They’re the inspiration behind it — and I have to say, the timing on this one couldn’t be more perfect! After heavy rain and a nasty ice storm made its way through the area yesterday, a warm, golden, honey-soaked quilt project feels like just what the doctor ordered.
This eye candy of a quilt is called Wild Honey — named after the Lella Boutique fabric line it’s made with. A cheerful, nature-inspired fabric line, Wild Honey features a warm, golden palette reminiscent of honey and sunlit fields, with prints that include floral motifs, honeycomb geometry, and playful bee-themed elements. Think honey, earthy greens, summer flowers, and rose water — it’s warm, radiant, and absolutely stunning in person.

Now let’s talk about the quilt itself. Wild Honey is a 72″ x 84″ beauty made up of simple 12-inch blocks, each one constructed from four six-inch blocks (two with light corners and two with dark corners), using basic rectangles and triangles. Don’t let the block breakdown intimidate you though, because Wild Honey is about as straightforward as it gets — and yes… it can absolutely be done in a weekend!

To make Wild Honey , you’ll need a fat quarter bundle of 30 prints, 3¾ yards of light background fabric, a half yard of print for the binding, and 4½ yards for the backing. Hot tip — if you’d rather do a scrappy pink binding, there will be plenty of pink fabric left over from your fat quarter bundle to use.
Once you’ve got everything cut and ready to tackle Wild Honey that’s where the fun really starts. The blocks come together quickly and in a way that just works — nothing fussy, nothing over complicated… and in the end, you’ve got something that looks far more detailed than the effort it actually took. I LOVE it when that happens!
Not sure where to start? Kali and I have you covered. As usual we put together a handy little video tutorial to help walk you through the process. Watch it on my STITCH with Lisa Bongean YouTube channel by clicking the STITCH button below!
A sun-drenched meadow full of wildflowers and buzzing bees sure does sound nice right about now, doesn’t it? Sadly it’s going to be a while before Mother Nature cooperates, but in the meantime, the Wild Honey quilt is about as close to that idea as we’re going to get — so I’ll take it! We’re getting ready for another weekend full of ice and rain here in Wisconsin, so once again (gee, shucks) I’ll be stuck at home tucked away in my sewing room for the next two days — so be it, summer is coming! There will be plenty of time for frolicing in the sun in just a matter of weeks… fingers crossed. Wherever you are, have a great weekend and stay cozy. See you next week! ~Lisa
