Get Ready for PG Anniversary Week!

Happy Friday everyone, and welcome back to my blog! It’s been a really nice week off, with mostly perfect weather and lots of rest, relaxation, and family time. I feel like I did a pretty good job of keeping myself on the down-low and away from the hustle and bustle of work, though I did end up stopping in a few times for this or that. I really tried to keep my worries about work at a minimum because anytime I’m away from PG, I know my team will always do a great job holding down the fort and keeping the ball rolling. I am so thankful for each and every one of them because I’ll tell ya, it would all be too much to handle by myself!

Wow – I was just thinking about it and we really have come a long way in the last year after our big move from Menasha to the new facility in Larsen, WI. In fact, I am excited to say that we have an anniversary coming up here at Primitive Gatherings! We are getting ready to celebrate 19 years in business (holy cow – how has it been that long???) and one year in our new shop and retreat center coming up in August. I guess you could say it’s a double anniversary, which is why we decided to call it our 19.1 Anniversary Celebration! During the week of August 8th through the 14th, come celebrate with us and take advantage of some of the best sale prices you’ll find all year on fabric, kits, and more!

Of course we had to plan something fun in honor of our success, so we came up with some fabulous demos and make-n’-take projects to get involved in throughout the week! We’ll be kicking it off on Monday August 8th, 2022 at with an adorable wool pin project demonstration (participation fee = $25.00 per guest). This decorative piece can be used to snazz up well… pretty much anything! Attach it to your favorite jean jacket, purse, or hat. Getting married soon? Real flowers are expensive and they die. Why not use an alternative that will last forever? These darling flowers would make the perfect archival solution for your wedding day flower needs!

The fun continues on Tuesday August 9th, 2022 with mini basket making instructed by Gloria Parsons (participation fee = $20.00). If you’ve ever wanted to learn the art of basket making, now is your chance! Gloria will be showing us how to make a small basket project – great for storing jewelry or nicknacks. If you’re new to the art, this mini project is a great way to test the waters of basket making. By the end you’ll know whether or not you want to tackle a bigger project or if this little guy was just enough!

On Wednesday August 10th, 2022 I will be giving demos on how to make a super cute thread spool project (participation fee = $40.00 – if you have extra old thread spools, please bring them!). I think this piece is especially cool because we are using recycled sewing items to make sewing-themed art. You can spruce up any sewing room, den or even kitchen with this charming piece as either hanging décor or a tabletop conversation piece. If you’re feeling extra ambitious and have a lot of spools to use up, I bet a set of three in different sizes would be extra adorable.I

Do you love barn quilts and want to learn to make your own? Thursday August 11th my sister Lisa and I (yes you read that right!) will be demonstrating how to go about making a 12″ mini barn quilt (participation fee = $50.00). These mini barn quilts are so much fun to do, and the design possibilities are endless! If you’re a fan of colorful geometric shapes in your décor but you don’t have time for large quilting projects, mini barn quilts could be for you! There’s only one way to find out, come give it a try!

I’ll be wrapping up the demo week on Friday August 12th, 2022 with our final project, an adorable small fabric tote (participation fee = $25.00). This bag is a perfect size for running quick errands or transporting a small project. It easily could take the place of a purse if you just need something light to throw your keys and wallet into, rather than having to lug around your entire bag. I have several of these and use them for all sorts of things. I even have one to hold my favorite bible!

Five fabulous make-n’-takes for five fabulous days of anniversary celebration. Not to mention we have anniversary sales galore through Sunday August 14th, 2022 (all make-n’-take projects are available from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM on their scheduled day only, and are located at The Gathering. SPACE IS LIMITED! Please sign up by calling 920-778-8031 if you plan to participate)!

If you’re local you should really stop by and check out all the excitement…and if you have a project you’re currently working on (or one you should have started long ago…), bring it with you along with your machine! We also have an open Sit & Stitch going all week from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM Monday through Friday! Set up shop in our spacious retreat house for the day, surrounded by friendly people who share your love for stitching! Enjoy excellent lighting with multiple steam stations and large spacious cutting tables that are equipped with electricity! Plus, I’ll be around to help you with any problem child projects you might have holding you back. It’s only $25.00 to participate AND lunch is included. You can’t go wrong! Space is limited, so if you plan to join us for Sit & Stitch , please call Judy at 920.778.8031 to reserve your seat!

Going into the weekend I have a few loose ends I’d like to tie up before next week gets here, so I can be ready for new projects. It’s hard to imagine that it’s just about time to start thinking about fall and even winter projects for the upcoming Christmas season. We all know how the holidays always seem to sneak up on us, so I like to have a good head start on things well in advance. If you caught me last week LIVE on Stitch with Lisa Bongean,” you heard me talk about one of the projects I’m getting ready to start. It’s a Christmas project quilt-along from Moda inspired by my, Mini Alphabet Quiltpattern. Mini Alphabet is a darling little quilt, ideal for a child’s bed or toy room. Measuring at 42″ x 42″ it’s the perfect size for cuddling, all while learning your ABC’s. Super cute, right!? You can purchase the pattern for this little gem by following the link below!

Once you have the pattern for the Mini Alphabet Quilt you have the first part of participating in the Moda Letters to Santa Quilt-Along covered! As you probably already figured out, the Letters to Santaproject is a fun seasonal quilt along based on Christmas words and lingo. It will be what Moda refers to as a,”relaxed fit style quilt along” – meaning they will release five new word options every month (and some additional filler blocks), but you can join in with whatever words you want to use (don’t worry – they have an idea list posted). If you don’t have time for a full quilt, Moda also plans to release some other, smaller projects as well. As long as you have the pattern for the alphabet, the word possibilities are basically endless! Sounds fun right? To learn more about Moda’s Letters to Santa Quilt-Along,” visit the Moda Fabrics United Notions Facebook page by following the link below!

Now that I have Christmas on all our minds I’m going to tell you to enjoy your weekend! Those of us in four season climates know just how short the warm weather months last, so if you’re one of us be sure to get outside and enjoy it while you can! One of my favorite things is sitting in my boathouse listening to the water with a hand stitching project in-hand… I think I might actually go do some of that right now. Ahh, what a life! All part of my master plan to stitch every day! I will see you all next week. Don’t forget to set your alarms or Tuesday at 9:00 AM for Shop Talk with Shelley LIVE on YouTube. Join us! See what’s new, chime in and maybe win a prize. Hope to see you there! ~Lisa

MBH4 Block #17 – “Shoreline”

Hey Blockheads! I hope you’re ready to rock Block #17 because today is the day! Shoreline was designed by Camille Roskelley of Thimble Blossoms Patterns. Stay-at-home mom gone quilter and pattern creator, she is also part of Moda’s first-ever mother-daughter team of fabric designers, Bonnie and Camille. Since her mother’s recent retirement, Camille has since started designing solo collections for Moda. Her latest line, “Dwell” is anticipated to release this fall.

You get a lot of bang for your buck with Shoreline because it’s another block design that looks way more complicated than it actually is. It features a simple one-piece center, with four-patch units constructed of (your favorite) half-square triangles surrounding it. The additional units use the flip-and-sew snowball corner technique to show off your focus fabric in block A, making this an excellent piece to help you perfect your square-in-square technique. I especially like that it offers more than one color/shading choice, giving you a variety of finished product options.

If you’ve been following my progress through this QAL, you know that up until now I’ve stuck with the same fabric choices for my blocks so far. Those have been a bright Bella Solid called “Ochre,” (we are currently out of stock but should be getting more soon!) paired with my Urban Farmhouse Gatherings II line, which you can find by clicking the button below!

For this block I decided to keep my color scheme going and again went with “Ochre” as my background color. I also used a black on mid-gray Urban Farmhouse Gatherings II tiny print for the outer pieces. For the inner pieces and center, I decided to mix it up a little and added some Zen Chic choices to the mix. Those include a nice mid-gray with a small white dot and circle print, along with a mostly white center with mid-gray celestial stars. Take a look!

I know you’re rearing to get going on your own version of Shoreline,” so wait no longer! All you have to do to get started is follow the link below for a printable PDF of the pattern and full instructions!

Are you just joining MBH4? All of the previously released MBH4 blocks can be accessed by visiting the Moda Blockheads 4 Archive. You can find the archive in the main list of links at the top of my blog page or on Moda’s website. In addition, bonus blocks can be found on Moda’s Inspiration+Resources Center page by clicking HERE! If you’re having trouble keeping all the details straight you can also sign-up to receive Moda’s weekly Blockheads blog posts via e-mail at the Inspiration+Resources Center as well.

I’m having a lot of fun with the MBH4 QAL… but I’m not sure if it’s quite as much fun as the kids are having over at Kid’s Camp in the retreat house. If you’re wondering what I’m talking about, we just kicked off day three of our first ever PG Kid’s Sewing Camp, where boys and girls 7 and up are learning the basics of sewing and project management. Today they worked on learning how to use an embroidery hoop to cross stitch on gingham fabric. Adorable!

Kids who signed up for the multi-day camp will be back tomorrow for more fun when they combine all the skills they have learned this week to create one final surprise project. I seriously would have LOVED doing this as a kid! They are having sew…much…fun!

Those kiddos are so cute! It always puts me in a great mood to be around kids who are so interested in learning something new. Speaking of good moods, I’m feeling the itch to give away a couple prizes today so I really think I should do that. As usual I’ve chosen names from those of you who left me comments here on the blog last week. Thank you so much! Every comment and like makes a difference in the social media world, so we really appreciate it! I want to give a special thanks to Teri M. and Lori G. – you are this week’s lucky prize winners! As always, I am not posting last names or email addresses for privacy’s sake, so if you think you’re one of these lucky winners please check your email! You can also contact Heidi at if you have not already received a prize confirmation letter from her. She will use your email address to confirm that you are in fact the winner!

Going into the weekend, I know many of you will be putting a dent in Clue #4 of the O’ Say Can You Sew Mystery Quilt Along, so you can be ready for Clue #5 when it releases on August 1st. As you’ve probably already heard, Clue #5 may or may not have a few half-square triangle involved (remember- you’ll need to purchase TWO packs of 1″ Finished PG Half-Square Triangle Paper for Clue #5 – you can find those on our website by clicking HERE!). I know this is worrying a lot of you, but please don’t freak out! Trust me – it’s going to be easier than you think. In fact, if you feel like you need a little extra guidance I will be doing a LIVE tutorial all about how I use my custom made triangle paper to achieve fast and accurate half-square triangles in the easiest and most efficient way! You can watch and learn on my YouTube channel this Thursday at 1:00PM CST by clicking the STITCH button below!

One more reminder before I go – don’t forget that now through July 17th, 2022 we are offering 25% OFF ALL FABRIC AND PRE-CUTS IN STOCK (minimum of a half-yard cut – offer does not include the Garden Gatherings fabric line or any fabric already on sale)!

That’s 25% OFF both yardage and pre-cuts for the next six days! Whether you have a project in mind or you need some outside inspiration to help you think of your next one, it’s a great time to stock up on pre-cuts and yardage alike! Visit us in-store or online to order yours!

Alright friends, that’s all I have for you today. I’m looking forward to seeing many of you tomorrow during my LIVE triangle paper tutorial on STICH with Lisa Bongean” at 1:00PM CST. Judging by how many comments we’ve gotten expressing “concerns” on the subject, I expect to see a full house – LOL! Remember, the only way to get better at a skill is with practice, so come face your fears and learn with me! Click the button below to watch. I will see you there! ~Lisa

Who Doesn’t Love a FABRIC SALE!?

Hi friends! Happy Monday. I’m finally back in the studio after surviving my “stay-cation” last week – which turns out, I needed more than I realized. I’ll admit that the idea of taking another week off crossed my mind more than once, but it was only a fleeting daydream since there is much to do here at Primitive Gatherings. We were here bright and early this morning, working hard to get The Gathering ready for the arrival of our kid’s sewing camp students. The kids settled in and put their noses to the grindstone to make some super cute projects using their new stitching skills. Camp instructor Ms. Adrian did an excellent job, which was pretty obvious judging by all the smiles in the room. I would say our first PG Kid’s Camp was a total success! Students who signed up for the full course will be back tomorrow to finish up today’s masterpieces, and then start some new ones. I wish you could have all seen it – it was seriously the definition of adorable! We had such a good time that I’m thinking we might just do it again… Stay tuned to the blog for future Kid’s Sewing Camp dates!

I hope you all were able to get some rest over the weekend, or at least some stitching time in. It seems like there are a ton of different projects and quilt-alongs going on right now, so I feel like most everyone is super busy working on summer, and even fall projects. How are yours coming along? Are you going to have everything done in time for seasons to flip? Let me know in the comments – I love to hear about your progress! Considering everyone is so busy being creative, I thought now would be a great time to have a summer fabric sale. I mean, why not? Fall is going to be here before we know it, and we could use a little help making some space in the warehouse for new arrivals later this year. I figure we can help each other – you get a little price break on the fabric you need, and we open up some space on the floor. I am liking this logic – it’s the perfect symbiotic relationship!

That being said, now is the perfect time to stock up on fabric because today through July 17th we are offering 25% OFF ALL FABRIC AND PRE-CUTS IN STOCK (minimum of a half-yard cut. Offer does not include the Garden Gatherings fabric line or any fabric already on sale).

This is a great deal if I do say so myself. That’s 25% OFF both yardage and pre-cuts for the next six days! Like our June PG sticker says, “Nothing haunts us like the fabric we didn’t buy…” So true! Don’t let yourself be a victim of indecision. It always stings a little when I find a project I really want to do, and realize everything I need to complete it just went off-sale the day before I decided to commit. Murphy’s law! Don’t let it happen to you… Now’s your chance, so get shopping!

Are you participating my the O’ Say Can You Sew Mystery Quilt-Along? If so, you might be feeling a little worried after the “sneak-peek” clue I gave you regarding Clue #5. I had mentioned that to prepare for Clue #5 that you should purchase TWO packages of 1″ PG Finished Triangle Paper. I know two packages has 2,000 half-square triangles, but don’t worry! You’re not going to be making that many. There’s just not quite enough in only one pack. Plus, half-square triangles are really not that hard… You just need to do them enough get the hang of it. Practice makes perfect, which makes this is the perfect time to work on perfecting your skills. Let’s just say that after Clue #5, you’re definitely going to be more of an expert than you were before you started. LOL! I know you can do it – I believe in you! If you still need to get your two packages of PG 1″ Finished Triangle Paper before Clue #5 releases in a couple of weeks, order now so you don’t fall behind! You can find what you need by following the link below!

Are you all caught up and looking for a new project to tackle? I have just the quilt for you! Coming up very soon this month at The Gathering we are excited to be hosting our, “Summer Get-Away Retreat.” This is a two day retreat featuring my “Lulu the Ladybug” quilt – a sweet little number that is simple to make, yet has a ton of options as far as how you’d like it to look in the end – depending on your fabric and color choices. You’ll be able to pick out your own background to go along with the Dresden daisy motif, and of course the real star of the show Lulu the Ladybug.

Finished, “Lulu the Ladybug” measures 52 1/2″ by 52 1/2″, which is a great size for display on a child’s bed or hanging on your sun porch wall. As usual space is limited for this retreat, so if you’re interested in getting in on the fun please call Judy at 920.778.8031 to reserve your seat. We’d love to have you here with us!

I just heard a boom of thunder outside so I’m going to take that as my cue to call it a day and go home. It’s been near 90% humidity all day and the sky is about to burst – typical for a July evening in WI. I will see you all tomorrow during Shop Talk with Shelley at 9:00 AM CST. We’ve been off for a week so we’ll be catching up on some announcements and other important tid bids to share. I’ll be there in the comments so make sure to leave me one! You might even win a prize. You can tune in by hitting the button below. See you there! ~Lisa

Junk in Your Trunk!

Hey stitchers, welcome back to my blog! I don’t know what it was about this last CA trip of mine, but I feel especially happy to be back home in WI. Traveling that far in a short time really takes a lot out of a girl! After all the rain that fell while I was away, a week later the grass is a lot taller and the trees are full of lush green leaves… I feel like I’ve come home to the jungle of the north! Spring has definitely sprung. If you need the proof, it’s all over my car in the form of yellow pollen dust and cottonwood fuzz! Ahh, the joys of having four seasons.

I got home late Wednesday night and despite my exhaustion, I could barely sleep because I was so excited about our big Warehouse Sale and “Junk in Your Trunk” event that’s going on as we speak. There has been a heck of a lot of planning and preparation going into these events, and I have to say that it’s super satisfying seeing everything coming together. I want to thank my awesome staff for all their hard work in setting everything up because without them, this would have been one heck of a big job to tackle alone!

We kicked off the big sale weekend bright and early yesterday, and things were in full swing by mid-morning. I really couldn’t have asked for better weather, so it was nothing less than lovely to sit outside manning my “treasure booth” for most of the day (my blog manager Heidi is extremely jealous of the nice tan I have going on – as she should be!). We have a nice set-up with several vendor booths outside featuring things like finished quilt samples, home décor, hand-dyed wool, baked goods, hand-painted barn quilts, wood working, and more (vendors vary by day)!

This is all happening at the same time as the Winchester Town Wide Garage Sale event, so you will have plenty of shopping options to choose from… after you’re done blowing your budget here at PG of course. In case you get hungry our soup and salad bar will be open for lunch, which always hits the spot. And if you’re like me and have a sweet tooth to satisfy, we have Erica’s signature homemade snickerdoodle cookies available for purchase as well!

Unfortunately, the forecast is calling for rain tomorrow so we may not be able to set up our vendor booths outside. If that happens not to worry – our rain plan is to simply move vendors inside at The Gathering!

More of an indoor shopper overall? Come check out the awesome deals Jess and Amy have put together for you inside the shop and warehouse! Save big on fabric, notions, patterns, kits, jewelry, home décor, pre-made samples, and a bunch more! If you’re looking for something to do and happen to be in the area, stop out! The sale runs until 5PM today. We start back up at 7:00 AM tomorrow and will be open through 5PM.If you aren’t local or simply can’t get out here to shop, you can also find warehouse sale items on our website through Sunday (in-store sale runs through Saturday)! To find the listed sale items simply visit and click the “NEW” tab. Then click “Warehouse Sale.” For a direct link click HERE. Did you get a chance to watch Stitch with Lisa Bongean yesterday? I was live on scene here at the sale to give you a first-hand glimpse of all the shenanigans going on. If you’d like a virtual recap of the event you can still watch the replay by hitting the STITCH button below!

Boy, as fast as it went this week felt long! I’m really looking forward to the weekend and just being at HOME. It sure will be nice to enjoy a little rest and relaxation before next week is in our laps and demanding all the attention. I hope you all have a great weekend and I will see you very soon! Take care and of course, do your best to stitch EVERY day! Bye for now! ~Lisa
