Happy Block Heads Wednesday!

Here is another great Quilt Block FOR OUR QUILT ALONG PROJECT:  Hampshire Star

My 4″ Hampshire Star quilt block was made with   Urban Farmhouse Gatherings.

Again…I LOVE how my block turned out…I think this is the smallest block I have ever made with this many tiny pieces…it sure turned out cool…

You will have to go to Janet’s Blog to get the pattern for all the directions.  But the week’s directions do not have the 4″ size…so scroll down for the cutting measurements if you are doing the 4″ blocks.

Thanks Janet for such a fun beautiful block!

Isn’t she the cutest?  Can you hear her British accent! I could listen to her talk for hours…Hello Janet…I will miss you this Spring…it’s a long time til Houston!

I pieced the block a little differently than the pattern….

As you can see this makes it a little easier and less pieces…only 73, I think… if I can count right.

Hampshire Star 4 ” finished Cutting Measurements

Click HERE for PDF of Hampshire Star 4″ cutting directions…

9- SQUARE IN A SQUARE UNITS-In the center like a nine patch

Center squares 1 1/4″                     Triangles- 1 1/2″ squares cut in half once on the diagonal.                Trim them to 1 1/2″ square at this point. ( the 1 1/2″ is a little big. I like to trim SQinaSQ)

4- FLYING GEESE UNITS– 1- 2 1/4″ square, cut in half twice -LG triangle       4-1 3/8″ squares, cut in half once.  Geese should measure 1″x 1 1/2″ at this point.

4 HALF SQUARE TRIANGLES  I used 1/2″ half square triangle paper….cut dark/light fabric to 1 3/4″ x 3 1/4″.  Stitch according to directions.  If not using TP…cut 2 squares/ light & dark- 1 3/8″ for exact measurements.  Cut bigger if you want to trim them down.  Trim to 1″at this point.

8 RECTANGLES 1″ x 1 1/2″

You will need to determine what is light/dark/medium for your fabrics.  I switched the dark and the light from the pattern…

Here is another great Quilt Block FOR OUR QUILT ALONG PROJECT:  BlOOMING LOVE BLOCK

Moda Block Heads 3 Quilt Along Project Block 11: Blooming Love Quilt Block featured by top US quilting blogger, Lisa Bongean

My 4″ Blooming Love quilt block was made with   Urban Farmhouse Gatherings.

I LOVE how my block turned out…I did kind of plan the pinwheel in the middle so your eyes had something to focus on…Thanks Robin for such a fun beautiful block!

BUT… I do have to admit when I made this quilt along project block I did not see the “heart” in it… and that is why I made the pinwheel. It looked like the whole block was scrappy.  I guess I should look at it in color instead of black & white.   Now that I see Robin’s block it makes perfect sense!  Oh, well…. that’s the way it goes!!! This week’s quilt block is from Laurie, the quilting half of Minick & Simpson!  I love the red/white/blues of Laurie’s Fabrics…

Laurie’s Block

This uneven 9 patch quilt block is made with  Indigo Gatherings, Urban Farmhouse Gatherings & Bella Solid… all Moda fabrics for sure!!!

Since this week’s block is kinda about a nine patch… I wanted to share my thoughts about a nine patch…I think it is the most versatile and fun block there is to stitch…the possibilities are endless and no one is ever too good for a 9 patch quilt block.  They are so precious and fun to matter what your skill level is!

I this cool book called Nine Patch Gatherings, with a slick technique making 2 perfect– nine patch blocks from 2 squares…It makes one positive (dark corners) and one negative (light corners) nine patches at the same time…Our 50 light and 50 dark Charm square pack in 3 1/2″ and 5 are perfect for this….You even could do 100 shirtings and 100 darks as well if you like the lighter prints…

2- 5″ squares make3″ finished blocks and 2- 3 1/2″ squares make 1 1/2″ finished Nine-Patches.  The pre cuts are great for not tearing apart your fabric collection for just a square of a bunch of different fabrics……or if you have Moda 5″ charms they would work fine too with a Bella Solid!…
