Sewcialites 2 – Block 2 “Tussy Mussy”

Good morning everyone! I hope you’re having a great weekend so far. I don’t normally post on Saturdays but I wanted to stop in quick to talk about this week’s Sewcialites 2 block release, Tussy Mussy by quilt book author and cross stitch pattern designer, Susan Ache. Tussy Mussy is an interesting patchwork flower design she put together as her contribution to Sewcialites 2. Susan had this to say about it: “Most people call it the nose gay, I prefer Tussy Mussy. This block always just looks like an ice cream cone of flowers, or a fun party favor…and who doesn’t like either one of those?” I guess you’ve got a point there Susan!

Be warned, according to Kim Jolly of Fat Quarter Shop, Tussy Mussy is the second most difficult block in the series but don’t worry. She has an excellent step-by-step video tutorial posted on YouTube to help you along if you should need it. This block does have a lot of cutting as it features a four-patch, a couple of corner squares, flying geese, and a three-patch, but I have confidence in you. You’re going to be just fine! Ready to give it a shot? All you have to do to get the pattern and full instructions for is hit the link below!

In a previous post I mentioned that for my blocks I’ve decided to use my Garden Gatherings fabric line, without the five tans. For the background I plan to use a selection from the Garden Gathering Shirtings Collection, #49176 15 – a cream fabric with an adorable tiny mustard/orange floral print. What have you decided on for your fabric choices? Let me know in the comments – I’d love to hear your ideas!

I know some of you are still trying to decide whether or not to participate in Sewcialites 2, and that’s ok. One of the best things about this quilt-along is it’s never too late to start – you can join us at any time! Previously released blocks will be posted on the Sewcialites 2 Landing Page along with my blog in the Sewcialites 2 Block Archive, which is listed in the main menu of links at the top of the page.

Newly released blocks can always be found on Kim’s blog The Jolly Jabber, along with a video tutorial on her YouTube Livestream the same day. Each designer will also post their own block to either their blog or their website on that day as well. I will also be posting each block release here on MY blog every Friday for your convenience (or Saturday in this case as I am still in “catch up” mode). Fabric requirements and all block patterns will be posted on the Sewcialites 2 Landing Page, which you can access by clicking the link below. If you’d like to get automatic updates on Sewcialites 2 you can subscribe to the blog by signing up in the Email subscription box by visiting the Landing Page, or by subscribing to the YouTube channel by clicking HERE.

Well everyone, that’s all for today. I really need to get into my sewing room this afternoon and put a dent in a few projects, so I can’t be hiding behind this computer too long. It’s way too easy to get sucked into doing something else without even realizing it! Never enough hours in the day… I will see you all again on Monday here on the blog. I’ll be posting a virtual tour of my latest fabric line release, Rustic Gatherings,” and sharing details about the pre-order pre-cut sale we have going on.If you’re curious in the meantime you can always catch the replay of this week’s episode of STICH with Lisa Bongean by clicking the button below for more information and a video showcase of the line. Either way, I hop you join me – it’ll be a real stitch, I promise (LOL see what I did there? Yeah I know – stick to quilting Lisa and leave the stand-up to the pros)! See you then! ~Lisa
