Hand Quilting

Today  is way below 0 degrees here in WI with a wind chill factor of -45degrees, schools are closed and I am getting ready to go to a retreat this weekend.  So lots to do…My photo is a quilt that I am hand quilting.  Crazy Hearts by The Buggy Barn.  It is nice to do a row every couple of days or so…some quilts just need to be hand quilted.  I inserted a big pic so you hopefully can see the stitches.  Fans about  1-1/2 inches.  I have some acrylic templates from Judy at the shop, she gave them to me for my birthday, all my tools are shown here.  I have a wonderful frame that looks like a piece of furniture, so it is ok with me that it is set up in my sewing room.  In other words, it is not ugly.

Yesterday I was in Brookfield WI teaching a workshop on Wool Applique and gave a lecture and trunk show of my things…I met a lot of new ladies and seen some old friends.  My students were all outstanding and will be happy with there projects.  I appreciate the ladies all coming out in this awful weather.  I forgot to take pics at our class, oh well next time…

I’m curious…what kind of hand quilt frame do you use. I’ve wanted to buy one (I’ve been using a hoop), and am curious about what you like and dislike about this one you use. Thanks!

I have the Pleasant Mountain frame…i love everything about it. The only dislike is that it doesn’t hand quilt by itself! No..that would take the fun out of it…

I love the Buggy Barn Project. Another quilting question – What type of thread are you quilting with? It looks like a Valdani or purl cotton, just beautiful!
I am stitching this one with a variegated black 0531 12 weight perle cotton.LB

    HI Lisa

Love your work! Can you give me more details about the fan quilting acrylic template set you are using to hand quilt the Buggy Barn Hearts quilt? I think I MUST have them!

The acrylic template were a gift for my birthday from Judy P. I had nice manilla folder templates that Judy borrowed to make a copy of…she then took them to a glass place and they made me templates. She said we would not be able to make them and sell them, because the cost would be too much, but I will check with one of the ruler companies to see if they could possible do them and what the cost would be…sorry this is all the help I can give you..LB
