Inspiring others…

Now please don’t take this post the wrong way…I would never do a “shout out” about myself but when one reads a post about herself, it really justifies that YES! This is what I am meant to do…

Here is a post from Becky, who took one of my classes in Utah this last weekend: she is a young enthusiastic quilter who has her own patterns and blog…she is currently doing a 52 week series on making things with your extra blocks you may have around… i have drawers full!…visit her blog here and meet Becky! Patchwork Posse

We are busy setting up our booth here in CA…got a lot done yesterday…Nick fell asleep before 8 last night and is still snoring away…keeping me awake! Oh well, I guess I get lots of research done when this happens…

I am currently working on recreating this antique quilt top from my collection…I should really say that it is my inspiration for what I am working on because I am using wools, changing the colors, changing the size and adding my own little touches and revamping just a little…I have stitched all 9 blocks and now will work on the borders…but what I really love about this quilt top is the faded green vegetable dyed cotton that has faded to a unique blue….but that will not be the case in my re-creation of this awesome quilt! I also love the way the borders were put on… No matching up the vine so it flows from one border to the next…she just stitched them and sewed them on, not caring about a continuous vine of leaves..LB

    Lisa;
    Love your antique quilt and can not wait to see what your recreation looks like in wool.
    And I’m sure its not said often enough you are by far one of the most encouraging sharing designers out there; I have known many people who have taken classes with you and all have the most wonderful things to say about how great of a teacher and encourager you are. Can not wait until an opportunity arises to be in one of your classes.

    Looking forward to finding ways to use my many orphaned blocks. Took too many patchwork classes and not enough time to finish anything back in the day when my kids were young. So now I have too much unfinished business…and fabric I probably wouldn’t choose these days … but don’t want to toss or donate just yet. Still thinking there’s potential … Hoping the site you referenced will help me plow through some if it!

    That’s a beautiful block…I’m sure your version will be even better! Any idea if there is a Juki dealer at Road? I want to try out the machine you rave about and our local dealer doesn’t carry it. My serger is a Juki so I am familiar with them. Thanks Lisa! See you tomorrow!

    You are the best teacher! I took one of your classes & picked your brain – looking forward to taking another class in the future. The snoring issue, my husband snores too & for many years. One night I held his nose and he was swinging at me in his sleep and woke up & said “are you trying to kill me!” I told him I was saving his life…lol
    After many years of snoring he recently went to an ENT doctor, tried the CPAP machine (forget it). This thing sounds like a vacuum with your hand on it when not in place. So the doctor suggested surgery, cutting the nose & throat (not happening). I feel your pain not being able to sleep.

    Lisa, I look forward to your inspirational project. I love how the quilter used the traditional nine patch setting, but did not do the traditional alternate placements of the blocks. I also like that she didn’t line all the blocks up inthe same orientation.

    I can’t wait to see what your colour twist is for your quilt.

    I am lucky enough to live in Wisconsin only a 1 1/2 hour drive from Primitive Gatherings! But that 1 1/2 hour drive still makes it too far away for me and doesn’t happen often enough! Everytime I’ve visited Lisa’s shop I have recieved something free – a pattern, a book, fabric, a shopping bag, a pin cushion kit, a quilt block, cookies! Lisa is truly a kind and generous person and it is certainly returning to her tenfold! No one deserves it more than you Lisa! I met you when you first opened your shop and I feel that your success is my success – so thank you. Now don’t let it go to your head and get back to work! Oh, sorry, the word is Fun! When you do what you love, you never work a day in your life! Love ya, Besser

    You left quite the impression on that blogger! Thanks for sharing her blog with us. The 10 things that she shared are now new things that I have learned too. I never even thought of putting a pillow on my lap when stitching, but I have a feeling it is going to help keep my back from getting sore.     I love that you’re doing a wool quilt based on this old quilt. i’ve been perusing books trying to put together an old-timey aka “classic” applique quilt, only in wool. I look very forward to seeing this in the future. I also love that blue color. though my wool collection is out of control right now, i would jump to buy a piece that faded out green/blue color.
