Happy Easter. Looks like the students did a wonderful job in the big stitch class. What a great way to learn. I think I will dig out my stencils and learn.

Looks like your class is doing well with their big stitch quilting. I agree that there is nothing like hand quilting our quilts. That stitch is just so lovely!

How flipping cute is that doggie sundae!!! I’d love to learn to hand quilt … maybe I can convince you to show me how!

Big stitch class looks like great. My problem is, after decades of having teeny tiny stitches drilled into my head, when I start a project thinking I will do “big stitch” I start out fine, but somewhere along the line I switch into auto pilot and the tiny stitches kick in. Do you have a class to “unlearn” that? : )
Oh, the doggie sundae–how fun! *LOL*

I love the big stitch projects and am getting ready to quilt a large quilt with this stitch. I bought #8 pearl cotton, is that what you use? I hope mine turns out good, it is a salute to the underground railroad. I made all the blocks from the code and then I also embroidered 10 or so pictures of black slaves in front of their slave quarters and many other scenes from their daily life. I will tie parts of it to show the way it would have been tied back in those days but it will be quilted with the big stich. I love your work, I first saw it in Paduka in 2007 when I was there to see my own quilt in the show.

Love the pictures. The big stitch quilting is beautiful. I actually might be able to accomplish this on some of my small quilts. Our dog loved going to the yogurt store with us and getting her own bowl. Great picture of him enjoying his doggie sundae. Thank you for sharing!

Love the quilt. And am not a fan of hand quilting as I can’t seem to get that rocking motion. So, I am hand quilting My Favorite Things with the stabbing method. Thanks for the pics. Love looking at works in progress.

Lisa: what type of thread do you recommend for handwork with wool on flannel applique?
I just know you will have the best idea!

    1. lisabongean Avatar

Vicky…I use Valdani threads on all my wool appliqué…#12 wt…if the shapes are unusually large then I will use #8wt.
The Valdani threads are really awesome and you will love them…if you cannot find them locally we have them on our site here:

Hey I know this is off topic but I was wondering if you knew
of any widgets I could add to my blog that automatically tweet my newest twitter updates.
I’ve been looking for a plug-in like this for quite some time and
was hoping maybe you would have some experience with something like this.
Please let me know if you run into anything. I
truly enjoy reading your blog and I look forward to your new updates.
