How is everyone doing on their PIECED BOW! As you can see mine is all pieced together…I thought I should show you how I put them together…and I am revealing the antique quilt top used for inspiration….In the first photo I am showing the two quilts side by side….the one on the left is the antique, the one on the right is the one from the BOW. The new quilt is a little more colorful but I love how it turned out…I thought I would show you it before it was sent off to the machine quilter….the antique has some wonderful fabrics…it has a lot of pinks and reds and no blue…there are some very large scale prints that look like wall paper… Click on the photos to make them larger.
I set my quilt 12 blocks wide, in 14 rows, alternating light and dark blocks (see the centers)…I am not going to put a border on it as I don’t think it needs one. My quilt finishes 72″x 84″…now the real questions….Should I have the antique quilted…It is only a top? What do think?…I would love to know your opinions…
Also…if you would want us to re-kit this quilt let us know if you are interested in buying the whole kit…The kit will be $215.00 plus shipping. It has 168 fabrics in it and there are some nice leftover pieces after cutting it out to make a couple smaller quilts…If we get enough names we will consider cutting this again. Leave us a reply with an email and we will contact you if we re-kit it. Just in case you could kick yourself for not doing this one this summer!
This quilt was so much fun to piece…it took my less than 2 hours to cut and piece the 12 blocks each week…Ok…sometimes I had to do more than 12 to catch up!

Yes, I would machine quilt them both, just alike. On your labels put your info about both saying it has a twin just born (made) many years apart. I have mine done and it is at the machine quilter now. I debated about adding a stripe border and in the end I did add it and mitered the corners. Also added 2 more rows to make it fit my queen bed. Really liked this years BOWs, both wool & freebie and fabric. Thanks for the great designs…
Beautiful. I think the antique quilt top should be hand quilted!
I agree with Brenda. Hand quilting would be great. Something simple and big stitch. I have loved the pieced BOW’s!

If I would quilt this quilt it I would do it by hand. By machine it should only be done in the ditch. But again I think hand stitching would be the best. It is a lovely quilt. Kathy

I would hand quilt the original top and machine quilt the BOW. I too added an extra 24 blocks from my stash to the BOW. I hope to layout the blocks after the Packers game. And have a finished top later this week. This was the first time I participated in the pieced BOW and it was fun, fun, fun.
I would quilt the antique top and display it. If it were mine, I would do the quilting appropriate to the time it was made in order to keep it authentic. You certainly did a great job in reproducing it. I am so glad that I got them through the BOW wool….That was a good move on my part for sure! I love the blocks and, depending on how you look at the quilt top, the blocks can look different from different angles and laying them out by colors. I am one of those who can’t wait to start on my pieced bow! Now seeing the quilt top finished, it is next in line! As for the quilting – hand quilt the antique quilt the way it would have been done in it’s time – maybe a big stitch baptist fan, and do anything you like on the new one. I’m sure mine will be “checkbook quilted”!
Definitely hand quilt the antique quilt. What a treasure. Had so much fun piecing and wool appliqueing this summer. Can’t wait to see what’s next. Thanks for all you do.

I am a machine quilter and have gotten many antique tops from ebay and have quilted them. They turn out beautifully and we actually use them.
There is only one vintage late 1800’s that is a drunkards path variation where it was just hand pieced to perfection, tiny perfect stitches, all points perfect,etc. I couldn’t bring myself to machine quilt it and it is currently with the Amish being hand quilted.

I would hand quilt the antique quilt. They are both gorgeous. I was one away from getting in on this BOW. (It was filled) I will not procrastinate next year! Will just the pattern be sold?

Wow! This is gorgeous! I had better get caught up on my stitching so I can piece this… Looks very close to the original! Love it! I would hand quilt the antique…. to keep with tradition and also thinking the fabrics and/or stitches (from hand piecing) might be weak and tear under the tension of a machine?
