Summer Block of the Week #6 Update…also Stitch Along

Hey all…just a little info here…I appreciate if you find any errors in this summer pattern as you are my pattern testers….so please email if you think there is a problem or a typo or whatever, like the missing wing in block 6.  We forgot to add a wing to the bird on Block 6 Wool SBOW…we have the wool in the kit but the drawing is missing the wing…we will also add it to Block 9’s direction off to the side so you have a hard copy. Those of you who are keeping up and need this wing now this is for you!!!  Click on it to print the PDF Click here for Block 6 Correction

We have been getting a few calls about there not being enough fabric in the block kits…The appliqué block kit consists ONLY of the tans and the 4 patches like here….all the other stuff around this is in the pieced blocks.  I also would suggest to only maResizedImage951405011654393ke blocks for now…and finish the appliqués that travel into the pieced blocks when you put the whole quilt together.  This is only  my suggestion…as it will spread the fabrics out…I also did not arrange my blocks in the order you are getting them….but if you do you own thing by piecing rows together…I am sure it can somehow work…but it is not how I have done this quilt and written the directions…

Speaking of directions…PLEASE…PLEASE…PLEASE  read ALL of my directions! We get calls that are unnecessary if only they would have read the directions.  Also, please remember the girls at the shop have not done this quilt I have…so if you have questions…please email me…you can send it to primitivegatheringsquiltshop@yahoo.com attn Lisa B and i will answer you…but only if the answer is NOT in my directions….lol..

The Stitch Along Part 2 will be shipping tomorrow and next week…in case you are looking for them…they are starting to ship…

I hope you are all enjoying your summer and taking time to stitch!!! Someone told me once only I am in charge of my time…so if you don’t have time to stitch who’s fault is that?

all for now…LB

This link for the bird wing is for a strawberry, which as I was typing I happened to scroll down and see others having the same issue. 😊

Thanks for the update… LOL when I got the strawberry I hurried up and saved it 🙂 I have one teensy question about the wing: approximately what are the measurements of the wing? Since it was a jpeg my printer put it on 2 pages even when I set it to 100%, so I just want to make sure I don’t have a deformed bird LOL… BTW I posted a picture of my Winter Crazy mat on my Facebook and tagged Primitive Gatherings page I have to do the back and binding but all the stitching is finished… Hugs from SoCal Liz Schraeder

I have been receiving my blocks in the SWOW. They are great. But I have a question. Included is some of the weeks are the free little kits. I have 3,4,5 and 6. I haven’t received 1 and 2. I have been very organized with my kits and kept them all in one place. I feel kind of silly complaining since they are free. But I really like them. Could you advise? Thanks so much.  Marge Byrne

      Marge…
Did you start the 1st week in June? Each week is a new freebie…if you did not purchase in week 1 or 2 those are not in these…but you do have the pattern and you can use your scraps to make the 2 you missed, if this is the case. LB

Hi Lisa! I got the correct update with the wing, but the original you did is way way out of scale. I reduced your attachment to 30% and the wing was still much too large. Can you fix the original attachment so that it will print out in the proper scale? Thanks!

I need a little advice. This is my first time working with wool and I am wondering why your applique’ looks so fluffy in the photos and mine are very flat. I tried not to press too long as you instructed, in the directions ( I did read them 🙂 Wondering if I should have used a glue stick and if I so, can I use a regular Elmer’s Glue stick, as I have about 3 of them in my closet. I want to tell you also, that I think this quilt is so beautiful and I stare at each block as I get them done and can not believe I can actually do it! Thank you so much, Lisa! I’m so happy I found you 🙂 My husband..well…he probably isn’t as happy as I am, LOL! Hugs!

    1. lisabongean Avatar

Symantha…this is simple…you are seeing quilted blocks…yours will look fluffy too after it is finished and quilted. I do not use glue…only fusible web like my directions state.

I am having problems with not enough applique fabric. The dimensions given in the pattern are oftentimes larger than the piece sent. Sometimes I can work around it, but not always. For example, I was not able to fit all 52 flowers out of the red piece of wool in Block #3. I was not able to cut out the vine in Block 7 without changing the vine=== the wool was 1/4″ too narrow. The piece of light grey for the flowerpot was fully 3.4″ too narrow for the pattern piece #15 and too short and I could not get the spout lid # 17 at all.

      Michele…
this concerns me…I will check it out tomorrow at the warehouse…meanwhile…this is what I teach in class…look at your piece of wool and lightly trace the outline of it on your fusible web, then trace your appliqués inside this outline and remember that you can place them very close together. Then cut them out as a group not individual…hopefully this helps…if you already do this then we need to send your some more pieces…I did have an assistant help me with the measuring of these pieces for each block so I did not personally do this for the kits, but the wools should be cut to the size on the pattern or larger…It was brought to my attention that there was a sub made for the grey wool and it was too dark making the values of the wool switch…this happened in about 100 kits…we are taking care of these on a one to one basis as it was not everyones…I will try to forward this comment to the shop we will send it out in one of the next blocks…sorry for your troubles, we will make it right…
