I am so super excited to announce what I have been working on since Fall Market!!! This Spring Market is going to be in Minneapolis…we are going to be re-naming it “Mini”-apolis“!!!! Its all about the MINI!!! Little quilts will be busting out in the PG booth…but also 2 new Creative Grid Rulers to work with all those mini blocks!!!
Here is the official write up on the 6″ruler…
This 6 inch Itty Bitty Eights Square Ruler designed by Lisa Bongean of Primitive Gatherings features easy to read 1/8 inch markings. The black and white dashed eighth inch markings show on both light and dark fabrics. The dashed 1in grid lines ensure accuracy when cutting pieces for miniature quilts. Refer to the black diamonds when cutting 1/8” strips; the white diamonds when cutting 1/4″ inch increments. The Creative Grids exclusive grip holds the fabric while cutting. $14.95
I don’t know if you can see.. but all the black and white diamonds have the actual markings like 1/8, 3/8, 5/8, 7/8″ and the white 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4…But the best part is every line is a dashed line! You can see your fabrics at every point! No more wondering…am I on this edge of the line or that side of the line…now we can see! Also do you notice the ruler is not 6 1/2″? Now that is bad if we want to square up a 6 1/2″ block, but we already have a ruler for that!!! No mis-cutting because of that 1/2″ -you know what I am talking about here? Now…on to my favorite of the two…
The 3″x 7″…this is the one I use the most…I like how it fits in my hand…easier to wield around those mini pieces…with all the same features as the 6″. We still need the 6″ because sometimes we have to cut a 4 1/4″ square and then sub cut it twice for our minis…But the most shocking thing that happened to me is…when I didn’t have the rulers with me… like when left it at the lakehouse…and I had to use my other Creative Grids…I missed them!…I actually was bummed I didn’t have them…like…how am I going to survive this without those dashes!!! Cutting is CRITICAL with minis because just a thread can make a huge difference in a 1/2″ finished square or a 1/4″ inner border like Winter Star has…I also use them when NOT making minis, as I still want to cut as accurately as possible! So even if you don’t make quilts with tiny, tiny pieces…these two rulers are still VERY useful and I promise you these will become your GO TO rulers when cutting minis or sub cutting larger pieces in your normal sized quilts…Here is the Official write-up on this one…
This 3 inch by 7 inch Itty Bitty Eights Rectangle Ruler designed by Lisa Bongean of Primitive Gatherings features easy to read 1/8 inch markings. The black and white dashed eighth inch markings show on both light and dark fabrics. The dashed 1in grid lines ensure accuracy when cutting pieces for miniature quilts. Refer to the black diamonds when cutting 1/8” units; the white diamonds when cutting 1/4″ inch units. The Creative Grids exclusive grip holds the fabric while cutting. $15.95
Now I WANT you to BUY these rulers from me…as I designed them and I am telling you about them!!! As you can tell I am over the top excited about these two rulers and will be working on a couple more sizes too! Creative Grids are the absolute best RULERS in the quilting world and it was a pleasure to work with them!!! Thanks Cam and Penny! I want to ROCK Creative Grids and show them how much we needed MINI rulers!!!!

Oh, love at first sight I have been making minis forever and was wanting to replace my other rulers with 1/8″ markings. Creative grid didn’t have them so I ‘m glad I didn’t buy then. I too use these rulers all the time. Lisa, please think about one that is 3″ or 4″ wide and 18″ long. It would be my strip cutting ruler.
Thanks so much. Joan Oldham
I have been trying to order your two new rulers and the mini winter star kit! Unfortunately I find no way to get to my shopping cRt to place the order. I know that the order on the form must be corrected but I can. Not even see the order to do the correcting. The last order I tried to place had the same problem so I finally just gave up. What suggestions do yo have? I am working on my iPad if that makes a difference.
Can’t wait to get these rulers! I’ve wanted a Creative Grids ruler with super clear 1/8″ markings for a while. I’ve been using an old yellow OmniGrid 4″x8″ for precise tiny measurements but it slips and slides all over the place. And thanks for getting rid of that extra half inch – I’ve miscut SO many times 😉
I can’t wait for these rulers. I have not bought other CG rulers because they only have solid lines . Excited to try them out. Another great innovation Lisa!
I’m ordering both and the kit. I loved your post the other day about the mini and fell in love then—- now I can order the rulers too!!! Win Win —-you have never steered me wrong and the creative grid rulers are my favorite brand because of the non skid. Thanks!
Absolutely brilliant, Lisa! I have been very frustrated with my Omnigrid rulers as I have worked on my minis. I’ve even discovered that the lines are not consistent within the ruler. When you are working small those things make a difference. I’ve been ready to shop for new rulers and am thrilled to see what you have here. Payday is coming, so I will be ordering then! : )
I’m starting to get into mini quilts after purchasing a small quilt kit from you. Love them and they work up fairly quick (if I can keep from burning my fingers from the iron with all the little pieces). Will definitely be ordering your rulers as they will help with accuracy! Congratulations!
Lisa – once again you amaze me. Will be ordering these as soon as I am done writing this Thank You!
Some of us need those markings and the dashed lines are a great idea = I also love Omni grids!!! Again, a win – win!
Hi Lisa, I would very much like to order the two new 1/8 rulers you designed. Your online store does not offer payment via PayPal. Since the time my prior charge card was violated I have made it a personal policy to only purchase online via PayPal for their online security. I was going to go against my personal policy as I was placing my order at your webstore until I noticed that your online store – on the screen where my charge card number was supposed to be entered during the purchase process – did not indicate any type of security. I abandoned my order at that point for that reason. Online security is very important to me – I don’t want to set myself up for a charge card problem.
Oops. Meant creative grids. When I first started quilting I bought omnigrid, I am replacing them now with creative grids. Love how the creative grids don’t slip.
Just ordered my rulers. Can hardly wait to use them. I have wanted an 1/8″ ruler for a long time. Creative Grids is the only ruler to use! Thanks, Lisa, for creating the new rulers. I’ll be watching for the mailman! Have a great weekend and look forward to meeting you at the “mini-opolis” market!
I’m ordering mine now… I’m so excited to give them a try especially since I’m attempting the small quilts you offered as a BOM earlier (from the Tara Lynn Darr book).
Love, love, love this! Thank you for thinking of us and 1/8’s. I have an “off topic” question and if you can’t respond here, I understand. I have a lot of your wool patterns, but not many that including piecing blocks. Do you ever piece with cotton and flannel combined in one block?
