12 Days of Needful Things…Day 9!

DAY 9- FABRIC STRIP CASE12 Days of Xmas Ornaments 9
lisabongean
lisabongean

These little cases have changed my mind about Jelly Rolls…I love having a little bit of every fabric of a line of fabric…and precuts enable this to happen…Jelly Rolls are awesome for strip quilts, mini quilts and you can make a lot of regular size blocks out of a jelly roll…When I get a precut I starch it until its totally wet and then hang them to dry…and do you know what?  It does not shrink width wise…it does a little on the length but not the width..so NOW I want to sew with Jelly rolls..I have made this quilt, LOST MITTENS earlier this year…Lost Mittens-550x550 2It was made from two jelly rolls and everything has a 2 1/2″ width except the last logsIMG_1851…I plan on making a bunch of quilts like this with different motifs on them…

I’m will be doing a table runner out of  this Lakeside Gatherings Jelly roll next its all starched and ready to sew when I am ready it is safe in its fabric box! We have purchased a bunch of Lakeside Jelly rolls from Moda at special price and we can sell them to you for only $28.oo they are reg $39.99, so that is a nice discount, If you want to order the Lakeside Jelly roll for $28 click here JELLY ROLL…it is also shown in the strip box above.

See how I get sidetracked, this happens a lot to me lately… Back to the strip box… I love how the fuzz that precuts make are contained in this case and not all over my studio or on my shirt! I also think it would be great to store 2 1/2″ squares too so not only strips…You can order 1 strip case at 20% off, for $11.20 reg.$14…but I know you have more than 1 jellyroll!!! So 2 are $21 and three are 31.50…I know some of you have more than three but I’m not going to push it…You can do that on your own!!! Click here to order STRIP CASE. The 11.99 price will show up in your shopping cart…and remember to HOLD in comments if you want us to ship at the end…I remind you because if your like me I always forget to put the savings codes in when I order online…and please leave a comment up by clicking up at the top of this post if you want win a strip case!

I so love reading your comments everyday…I find out lots of things about you…and that is important to me.  Lots of you have loved ones not able to come home or that are serving and they are coming home!… I have a nephew Tyler stationed at Fort Hood and he is coming home!… but then I also have a son Lance in Heaven who is never coming home again, so we all have people we love who cannot be with us…that is why we have each other and our stitching passion.

I also find out things like the Day 10 Valdani Books suddenly disappeared from the website at about 2am this morning??? They are back on now so if you didn’t get to place your order you can now.

Just a note about DAY 11-pinbowls..

Here is a message I got regarding the magnetic pin bowls…

Hi Lisa,
I was just reading your blog this morning about your sew cute magnetic bowls. You were warning people to keep them away from computerized machines. I think that is a thing of the past, at least it is for Viking. My Viking Designer Diamond machine came out in 2008 & Viking says it would have to be a magnet to lift up a Volkswagen before it might hurt the machine! Lol I suggest you tell people to check with their machines manufacturer. This might help you to sell more bowls if people knew it was safe, 🙂 LOVE your patterns & your blog!

Karen in Ohio

So check with your dealer to be sure…like I said..better to be safe than sorry…
IMG_0658

Jake is super excited to be making lots of pin bowls!!! he sent me this pic to post for you!

Last..I know this is a long post…sorry..I want to sign off and share some of the hand made ornies on my tree…most were made by me from as far back as high school….some from customers/friends…and the paper coiled tree Lance made in grade school…

Wow I’ve never seen the jelly roll holders very cool. Just when I think I have it all. I did think it important to note regarding magnetic bowl…do be careful not to put near or on computer. I made needle minders with magnets last year, wasn’t thinking placed on my laptop and erased hard drive from 6 month old laptop.

My stitching bff and I make an ornament each year for each of our kids. When they move out (some already have) they will have a good start on decorating their own tree. I’ll be saving pics of some of yours for future use, so stinkin’ cute! Isn’t it great how each one brings back memories?

I can remember making a lot of those Santas with the quilted beard for gifts many years ago and still have one on my tree. I love your garland made out of the red and white pipe cleaners, too.

I love your tree Lisa with the handmade ornaments. My tree is like that too. I still have the macaroni framed photo of my son from kindergarten hanging on the tree. Lots of the green painted macaroni is missing.
Awesome that Jake is excited about making lots of pin bowls. They are so pretty I bet he will have a bunch of orders.
Love the yellow in your Lakeside gatherings collection. Would love to win a jellyroll. You are always so generous. I made my son-in-law, future son-in-law, and his mom stockings from your Christmas book last year. They look great hanging on the mantle with our family stockings. This year my son-in-laws main gift from us is a gift card so last night I stitched one of the 9″ stockings from your pattern to put it in. Turned out so cute!!

Thank you for sharing your special ornaments with us. One year, my mom was going to get rid of some ornaments she thought were old and worn. I gasped and said, “No! You can’t get rid of those!” and took them home to my house. Each year I still hang them on my tree. I had an oval magnetic pin keeper on the cabinet beside my Bernina for years, but changed to a new one which was apparently stronger. When I moved it to my cutting area I apparently got too close to the machine and whipped out the circuit board. That was an expensive lesson for me and yes, I disposed of the offending pin keeper.

I just got the Ornies done from our retreat in Temecula, Ca earlier this month. The are soon…darn cute. I can’t wait to see the rest of the patterns. I hope the Santa you have on your post is one of them. By the way, the retreat was great. Got the small bow tie (hugs and kisses design from left over bow ties block of the week)

Can’t wait to get all the quilting done on the rest of my projects to get started on the snow man kit I purchased at the store. I have really enjoyed the journey of wool-on-cotton.

The strip box is a great idea. I wonder if they will ever make one for the 1″ strips?!?!?!? Ha ha. Now you know who I am. “OMIGOSH”!!!

Thanks for all the help you gave me at the store and all the wonderful patterns and ideas you keep giving us to keep us excited about our quilting journey.

Hi Lisa, I will be making my first jelly roll race quilt this year as part of my local shop’s finish it club. I hope you won’t mind if I use your applique idea to keep it from being boring. My best friend has already warned me about the lint. I really will need this box. I also love 21/2″ finished squares and triangles so the fact the box is multipurpose adds to it’s appeal for me.I love your tree “Ornie” I hope to be able to make one or more than one as they are too cute!! Clever idea for holding jelly roll strips. I recently heard a great tip for managing the lint from jelly rolls.
When you take the cellophane off of the jelly roll, before you unroll it, run your sticky lint roller over both sides.
It really does cut down on the amount of lint. The cases would also be handy for holding binding strips.
Thanks for showing me something new!

I too have a loved one who will not be home this Christmas-my mother-she passed away right after Christmas last year from cancer. I miss her every day. I have great memories of her to cherish from Christmas past so even though she is not here in person she will be here in my heart. I can’t remember a time when she was not quilting. She did a lot of hers by hand, both the piecing and the quilting. She was even hand piecing a quilt up to about a month before she passed away. She wanted to finish it so bad but did not get the job done before God called her home. I plan on finishing her last quilt for her and I know already it will be my favorite quilt ever.

Speaking of trees…I have a tree with an Americana theme & have put it up every year since 1991 when my granddaughter’s dad returned from serving in Desert Storm. She was 2 yrs old. She now has a 7 yr old & a 2 yr old of her own. They’re awesome!
BTW, the jelly roll cases look very handy.

Lisa, your tree is darling and shows your love for your craft. The strip holders are a great way to organize your strips and still see what you have! I think I need a few. It is always hard to loose a loved one, especially at the holidays. My Grandfather was taken many years ago in an accident on Christmas Eve. I just remember that we will be together again some day. Thanks for all you do. We appreciate your hard work.

Hi Lisa, I like the cases, tho I’m an organizer nut. I have to say… how sweet you are to share your personal treasures on your tree. They are beautiful. My tree holds various handmade as well and my son’s school ornies are among my favorites. My thoughts are with you and all whose loved ones cannot be near enough to reach out and hug. Jakey

What a nifty case! Thanks for the tip on starching the jelly roll strips. I wash all my fabric except the precuts. I’m never sure what is the best way to handle precuts, especially when they are mixed in with washed fabrics.

Organization, I need lots of that! I was just diagnosed with sleep apnea and after being on the CPAP for only 3 nights I believe my energy level will be much higher! Originally it was a little depressing, but now I’m thinking this is a great thing! My next mother-to-be said her baby room colors are grey and white, but don’t you think a Lakeside Gathering quilt would fit right in?

Great way to store jelly rolls..they are such an awkward shape to store all coiled up! Love the ornaments! I’ve got some of my old handmade ones also…they bring back holiday memories!

I just don’t want a strip case….but I NEED a strip case. I have a primitive gatherings jelly roll next up in my stack of quilts to start in 2016……….That strip case would be perfect. Loved seeing your ornies………..such treasures.

I love seeing your tree and some of the ornaments. I have so many “favorite” ornaments – but at the top of the list are some that came from my Grandparents. One of them is a little metal candle holder (from when they actually used candles to light the tree) and it still has ashes in the bottom of it. So cool!
