Before we begin today..I want to add one more thing about yesterdays light boxes…I mainly use the light box for laying out my blocks…not just for tracing… I first lay my pattern on the lightbox and tape it in place, (I have placed my lightbox on the ironing board) I then add my background on top the lightbox…(you can through all fabrics but dark wools). ย I then proceed to layout my shapes exactly on the background fabric while seeing the pattern through the fabric. ย This makes everything ย perfect just like the pattern..no more guessing…start with the vines or stems…then leaves and so on..when all is in place I slide it off the light box ย and then press it in place with the steam iron. Here is another ready to stitch…ย
DAY 1โฆJUKI SEWING MACHINE & APPRENTICE LONGARM, BY TINLIZZIE18
Every year so far people ask…Will you please do the Juki again this year?…. so here it is AGAIN!โฆ..by popular demandโฆAND you could win yours free!!! ย Also if you could never afford a longarm…read to the end you may now be able to!
Now I know we pretty much all have a sewing machineโฆor two or three or even moreโฆBut I just have to talk about the sewing machine I use 99% of the timeโฆIt is my #1 Needful thingโฆMost of you probably have never heard of Jukiโฆso let me just say they are not new to the marketโฆJuki is well known in the garment industry and are mostly industrial machines. I think I have had a Juki for about 10ย years nowโฆI also own 2 Berninas, 1060 and a 1530, and a couple of featherweightsโฆone black and one white. I confess this to you so you also know what I am comparing to and you all know I teach all across the country and have stitched on many machines.
I bought the Juki with the intention to use it as a second machine to have set up for machine quilting my little quilts, and also so I didnโt have to change the walking foot from my regular foot on my Berninaโฆthat would have been nice, right?โฆJuki has entered the quilt world with a semi-industrial machine for quilters. Here are a few of the features that the Juki machines haveโฆall metalโฆno plastic bobbins, no plastic feet, comes with all sorts of feet including 2 free motion feet and a walking foot, a larger 9โณ opening between the body and the arm, so machine quilting would be easier to handle. It has a nice extension table, this is nice for retreats, I have it embedded in my table usually. The machine ONLY stitches straight. Now this might be an issue for some, but I was only going to use this for machine quiltingโฆThe fact that it only stitches straight is actually a plusโฆnice tension all the time, single hole throat plate . It holds large cones as well as regular threadโฆIt has an automatic thread cutter, automatic needle threader , knee lift and stitches 1500 stitches per minute or something like that, in other words it is FAST. ย It comes with a walking foot and other feet for doing free motion quiltingโฆI use the regular foot and stitch up against a bumper to get a scant quarter inchโฆ Here are all the particulars from the manufacturer:
The NEW Juki TL-2010Q is a high-performance sewing and quilting machine. The TL-2010Q is a single needle, lock-stitch, portable machine, constructed of aluminum die-casting to ensure industrial-quality sewing.
With advanced features, such an industrial sub-tension system, variable speed control slider, and bright white LED lighting, this machine is built for precision sewing. With a large work area of up to 23 inches (with auxiliary table attached), the TL-2000Qi can handle large quilt, sewing or home decor project with ease.
Advanced Thread Trimming
The New TL-2010Q allows you to trim top and bobbin threads using the Exclusive foot controlled trimming system.
Just rock your heel back on the foot control, and thread is quickly and precisely cut.
Automatic Thread Trimmer
The machine is also equipped with an automatic thread button that simultaneously trims the needle and bobbin threads at the sewing end by lightly pressing the push-button.
Both the Trim Button and the Foot Controller engage the advanced Juki industrial style thread trimming mechanism.
No More Twists or Quivers
The Sub Tension Unit ensures thread feeding to the needle is smooth, even and twist free, no matter how thick your thread is.
It also keeps the thread from quivering when sewing at high speeds and provides accurate, fine tuned thread tension.
Thread Tension Scale
The machine also has the thread tension scale, which allows you to adjust the tension according to the thread and material to be used.
Maximum Speed Control
The new speed control lever gives you complete control over sewing speed.
Set the speed from 200 to 1500 stitches per minute, or any speed in between for free motion, and precision sewing.
heavy
Materials are sewn with Ease
The microcomputer controlled, speed control mechanism, allows the machine to sew materials at low speeds. This provides for accurate feed and perfect stitching when sewing heavy weight fabric, quilting and multiple layers of materials.
Presser Foot Pressure Adjustment
Presser foot pressure can be adjusted according to the fabric being sewn by turning a regulator located on the top of the machine.
Needle Up/Down Control
When you stop sewing, the machine will stop with the needle in the down position to allow for pivoting or more accurate free motion work.
To move the needle up or down as desired, simply press the needle up/down button.
Truly Illuminating
The new, bright-white LED lighting, provides an illuminated view of the sewing area and allows for more precise sewing.
Automatic Needle Threader
The push lever automatic needle threader easily threads the needle without eyestrain and allows you to start sewing quickly.
Easy Bobbin Replacement
A new bobbin case latch and an enlarged bobbin case area make it easier to remove and replace the bobbin.
Nothing Free Motion Quilts Better Than a Juki
Juki’s rich tradition in quilting continues with the TL-2010Q.
The feed dog can be raised and lowered simply by depressing a switch. When quilting, the drop feed allows you to sew curved stitches with precision and ease.
Juki 1/4 Inch and 1/5 Inch Quilting Feet
The quilting feet are designed for free motion quilting and free-hand embroidery. Just lower the feed dogs and stitch away.
Juki Even Feed Foot
With its reliable feed, the even feed foot ensures the machine’s ability to produce beautiful seams when sewing difficult-to-feed fabrics such as georgette and velvets, as well as heavy weight materials such as leather.
Knee Lifter Lever
The knee lifter level allows you to lift/lower the presser foot without using your hands. The presser foot can be raised as high as 12mm.
After stitching on this machine and using it. I did not want to stitch on anything else. It โpiecesโ beautifullyโฆI didnโt have to hang on to my threads at the start, the feed dogs are nice and close together and fed my little pieces in nicely. Having the single hole meant my piecing wasnโt sucked down into that oblong holeโฆ and againโฆI could stitch, cut my thread with my foot(or there is a button, but I like my hands free to hold on to my patches) knee lift my presser foot and be on to the next thingโฆI especially love piecing triangle paper on the Juki for all the reasons I just statedโฆNow I know being fast really should not be an issue, right? We want to be accurate! But let me tell you, if I am stitching strips, borders or you name itโฆfast is handyโฆI tried going back to my โregularโ machine to piece onโฆit was almost painful!!! Just shoot meโฆI loan this machine at The Gathering, but it comes with a warningโฆif you stitch with it you WILL be going home with it! I think only one person didnโt buy one after she stitched on it for a weekendโฆlolโฆThey also have updated the Juki recentlyโฆI have a TL98Q (old model at home) and the new modelTL2010 Q1 I have in the studio, they have updated to an LED lightโฆthey have added a Turtle and a Hare button, if you want to control how fast it can goโฆand they changed the foot pedal, a bitโฆI love both of them and even though they are slightly different I can stitch on both on them with no problem even though they have slightly different foot pedals and controls.
So if you are ever in the market for a machine, please check out the Jukiโs and you can read all the technical words I should have used to explain it. ย I sell only ย the Juki 2010Q1 at my store in WIโฆI could sell other machines but remember what I said, I only sell what I useโฆtherefore I sell the Jukiโs. I am placing the Juki 2010Qi on sale now until the end of the year at a special of $899-(yesโฆnot a typo $948.95 if you are in WI we have to add tax) which includes shipping too. This is a great deal. We will order more for this same price as long as you order before the end of the year. JUKI In 2016 they will go back to $999.00 still a great price when you think about what you all get with this machine! I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and Holiday season. ย I hope your name is on our Santa’s list tomorrow!!! Good Luck!
I bought the sewing machine 2 years ago from you during the 12 days of needful things. I love it could always use a 2nd !!!!! Love your shop in Wis and all of your quilts. Have done many of them and am still working on the block of the week this year!!!! Merry Christmas and the best New Year!!!!
Thank you Lisa for letting us be in on your inspiring creativity! I wish you the best in this new year. Please keep sharing pictures of the new house, what fun! Looking forward the this summers SBOW, it will be my 3rd.Maybe next year I can get a new sewing machine, it’s on my ‘bucket list”. My machine I purchased in 1992 or 93. It was a year old trade-in. And I love my machine but it’s getting a little cranky and tired!
After waiting several years to buy a new machine, I purchased the Juki from PG last year. It’s the absolute best!! The only regret I have is waiting so long to purchase it. I promise everyone it’s worth every last penny!
The Juki sounds like just the ticket. This would certainly be a BIG step up for me. Thanks for this whole 12 days of Christmas. You’ve passed on so much good information and educated me on a lot of good products new to me. And besides that, it’s been fun, even if I don’t win anything. My wish list is now a mile long. Thanks again during Merry Christmas.
I would love both of these machines. I don’t have room for another machine though. I am going to have to re hunk my sewing area which is slowly becoming my entire basement.
I purchased my Juki 2010Q three years ago upon Lisa’s recommendation. It is one of the best purchases I have ever made. I also have a Bernina that I use for anything other than a straight stitch. One of my favorite things about the Juki is the way it free motion quilts. The tension is constantly wonderful and there is so much room to move my quilt about. If you are on the fence about purchasing one, take it from me that it is wonderful and you won’t regret it. Merry Christmas everyone!
Wow! The Juki machine is Really Nice! I would have to have it on display when not using! Sewing machines have come a long way since my grandmother time!
Happy Holidays to you and your whole family and the doggies too.
Merry Christmas. Boy would I like to have a Juki. I have been wanting one for so long. Maybe I can talk my husband into it today. (Ha) Happy New Year to all.
Hi Lisa! Merry Christmas to you and your family!!! We are celebrating ours on Sunday so the kids aren’t coming home until tomorrow so a quiet day today :). Wow! You love your Juki :). It does sound amazing – thanks for all the information!
Amazing machine, it is great seeing a machine that is not plastic. I think 90% of my sewing is straight and would love to try machine quilting. Have a very Merry Christmas!
Have been wanting to retire my Bernina 930 and I do believe this is the machine for me. I am a quilter–not much need for all the fancy stitches–and this machine sounds fabulous. Thank you for sharing the information. It seems only right that my favorite quilt shop finds me my favorite machine. It’s in the bag!
Thank you Lisa for the amazing needful things list. It is very helpful to know what items the expert quilters use on an everyday basis. The Juki machine sounds amazing. I will have to keep this machine in mind when it comes time to purchase another machine. Merry Christmas.
Merry Christmas Lisa! The Juki sounds awesome – thank you for educating us on it. I have the Bernina 150 (really old one) and I’ve heard the new ones are plastic. I’m definitely going to consider the Juki!
Merry Christmas to all and God Bless Us Everyone!
I’ve heard you talk about your Juki in a class last year! You raved about it- it looks fabu! Thank you, Lisa for a fun event- it was a treat to read your blog and see your pictures! Thanks for letting us peak into your life and sharing your stories with your “fans”.
Merry Christmas! I love the pics of little man!!! His tepee is way cool. I love reading about the sewing machines every year. The very next machine I buy will be the Juki without hesitation. I wish I could justify the expenditure now but alas I cannot. I will purchase it when Mr Clean and I downsize in a few years. Then I will ruthlessly let go of the sewing machine hoard! Merry Christmas to you, yours and all your wonderful staff! I wish you continued blessings and prosperity in the new year. Laura B in GA. PS Will Primitive Gatherings be at the EXPO in Duluth in March?
Lisa I hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday season! I would love a new machine. I used the Juki at your retreat house and loved it. Thanks Happy New Year!
I was looking for this post yesterday so I found the other one to post on.
I was impressed with the 1500 stitches per minute and see it has a ‘turtle and hare’ button. Good thing to get into speedy gradually. What a wonderful feature. A machine with a single hole plate would be wonderful to stitch on. I’m in ‘lust’ just reading what you and the other owners have to say about this machine.
Santa has been here in Ct, but no machine under our tree unless he mistakenly left it elsewhere. You know he’s getting old and the mind is the first thing to go. ๐
My sister has the Juki and she LOVES it! I don’t think she ever gets her Bernina out anymore! Maybe it is time I jump on the train and see what you are all raving about! ๐ Fast is always good…… LOL
Very nice looking machines. I really wish I was in the market for one. Maybe I just need to wish a little harder.
Hope your Christmas is bright and New Year Wonderful. Thanks for all you do such a great job.
Merry Christmas! If anyone is undecided about getting the Juki–go for it–you won’t be sorry!!! I love mine and having a second one set up just for free motion would be awesome!
Merry Christmas Lisa, thanks for doing the 12 days of Christmas I love reading all of your post. The 2 items today sure look wonderful, I look forward to getting my things ordered. A couple of years ago I ordered the Dovo set and just love them. Have a wonderful 2016 and can’t wait to see what PG has in store for all the quilters out there.
The Juki sounds like a great machine for both quilting and piecing. I think it’s my next sewing machine! The tip about using the light box at the sewing machine is a great one and a good reason to have one. Thanks for doing these 12 Days, I look forward to it and have a nice list of things I want by the end!
Merry Christmas Lisa and everyone at Primitive Gatherings who take such great care of all of us throughout the year! We have loved you and your beautiful work since we “found” you and Nick out at the Royal Oak mall years ago and Christmas quilts and wool pieces made from your patterns and quilts are part of our family holiday traditions each year!
I’ve been wanting this machine for a while…Thank you for offering this machine and a chance to win. I just finalized my order :), but sure do hope I can win this machine too. Enjoy your day and wishing you a Merry Christmas.
Thanks for the detailed info on the Juki. I have been looking at them for a few years. Maybe I will get to test one out this year. So many great features!
Happy Holidays to all at Primitive Gatherings! Thanks for sharing your great kindness and helpfulness when I requested it. Would be grateful to give any Juki machine a wonderful home!
Thank you for doing the 12 Days of Christmas! I look forward to this every year. Thanks for all you do to set this up and for all the work on your blog. The Juki sewing machine looks nice. I am very tempted !!!, May 2016 bring great things to you and your family!
Everyone of your favorites would be on my fav, love to have list. You always make everything look so fun!! Looking forward to seeing you in a few weeks at Road.
Someone who orders this machine is going to be a very very happy winner but even if they don’t win the discount your offering is great! This year was my year to purchase the iron and light panel…. I’m hoping to be able to get a new machine next year and hopefully it will be the long arm!!!
I don’t have a gazillion sewing machines – computerized machine that’s getting old, a Featherweight, and a serger. I would love to own a Juki! Blessings to you and your family for a Merry Christmas!
You are a good salesperson for purchasing a Juki. It is always better to hear from someone who uses the machine for the same purpose I would. Merry Christmas. Doesn’t a little one make Christmas more fun?
I can’t wait to get this machine that I just ordered as I like to sew FAST! I was the speed demon in one of your Bloomington classes last year and you used my pieces to demonstrate.
Bought the Juki three years ago after reading a huge amount of reviews. Lisa’s comments made the final decision for me to buy one. The best machine ever! Don’t hesitate, you’ll love it! Start the new year off with a whole new sewing experience! Merry Christmas to all!
Sounds like a great machine. I think it is very similar to the Brother 1500S which I have owned for probably 10 years. I use it for 95% of my piecing. I’m tempted to get the Juki, but my Brother still works great so will probably think about it some more. Merry Christmas!
I’ve been tempted to buy this for the last 3 years but it’s because I already have enough to sew with now. Hoping to get to test drive one of these in the near future. Merry Christmas!
That Juki sounds like a TERRIFIC machine! Would love to try one. Thank you for being so generous and doing the 12 days of Christmas for all of us. Hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas.
Sounds like a fabulous machine. I do like to zigzag or overcast around my blocks. I do need to knock out that wall!! Then I could use my Bernina when I am not sewing really really fast!! Love that!! I seem to always push the peddle down hoping it will go faster. And if you love it……know I would too. Thank you for all the great information you give us. You are the best!!
My first comment this afternoon didn’t post. I so am excited to have bought this machine today as I love to sew fast. I was the speed demon in one of your Bloomington, Indiana, classes and you used my blocks for demos.
Merry Christmas Lisa and Nick! I can’t believe the year is just about over and 2016 is right around the corner. Thank you for everything you have done for the quilting world. You and your staff are amazing and it is such a pleasure to shop at your store and online. Who knows. Someday I might get to visit your CA location.
I have a juki TL98q, and I can’t let it go, it’s always been such a workhorse! But, if I had a 2010 I might consider replacing!! Working up to ordering one…
I am very interested in the Juki! It sounds like a great machine! I have a Bernina but like the idea of a bigger surface area to try machine quilting. Thanks for all your inspirations and fun activities throughout the year! Summer wool block of the month was my favorite and 12 days of Christmas was my 2nd favorite!!!!!
Your 12 days of Needful things was alot of fun. Hope you and your family enjoyed today as much as we did. Although it was 77 degrees outside and we had the a/c on, it was still a great day. Merry Christmas!
Couldn’t find my name on any list yet——maybe now. Your little man is totally luscious! Happy New Year and happy new home!!! Can hardly wait to see how it will be decorated. The Juki looks simple and easy to use!! Love it. Diane
I have recently started machine quilting following decades of being strictly a hand quilter. I am using my mother-in-laws old machine. What a dream it would be to have such a great machine!!
I have enjoyed your emails. I am going to make it a priority to start quilting more. The Juki would be a great machine to use. My Vicking machine is probably 35 years old. It could use a companion in my sewing area ๐ Thanks for all the info in your emails. Love your shop.
Sure do love my old model Juki, some day an upgrade would be great. Maybe when my daughter graduates and I’m out of tuition hell I can dream of a long arm.
I love my Bernina, but it’s getting old and may need major repairs in a couple of years according to my Bernina-trained, 25 year experience repairman. Makes me wonder if I should get a newer Bernina. I’ve read what you’ve said about Juki in the past and wondered if that would be a better fit. Winning it would be incredibly awesome!
I have been dreaming of this machine ever since your Needleful Things last year….I think this is the year to get one! Thank you for everything you do…you are amazing! Merry Christmas to you, your family and staff!!
Would love a Juki, but since I don’t quilt as much as I’d like, I have to be happy with my Janome 6600. I do love it too. Cows rule at my house, and that’s where all my time seems to go.
Fabulous info on these two machines. One of these day I may own one or both of them. Even if it is in my dreams…..lol… Great collection of Needful Things Lisa. Hugs filled with love to you
I have had the misfortune of sewing with my Bernina next to a Juki in a sewing class. Ughhh it was horrible….can’t imagine how much quilting g I could get done with a juki. Maybe this is the year I get that juki.
Ordered my machine yesterday! I can’t wait to get it. I also have a Juki HZL 600 which I also love. Thanks for the great offer! I thought I posted this yesterday, but didn’t see it. Sorry if I posted twice.
I really wanted to order this last year, but didn’t. Throughout the year, it has crossed my mind many times and I wondered if it would be on your list of needful things again this year. Thankfully it was. This year, I have read your post and information a hundred times and have decided to go ahead and reward myself. I have never sewn on a Juki before, but trust what you say. You have never led me astray with anything else I have learned from your classes, patterns, summer blocks of the week, blog posts, quilt shows, etc…. You amaze me at your creativity. Your work is inspiring. I am grateful to have you as a sewing friend. Merry Christmas to you and your family! Gotta go place my order!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YEAAAAAAA!!!!!!!
Thank you so much for all the extra things you do for all your customers. You have a very caring heart. I ordered my machine as well. Can’t wait to sew with it!
Looks like a great machine, thanks for the chance at winning. I used to own a Juki when I had one of the earlier Handi Quilter frames and was amazed at how sturdy it was.
Love reading all of your Christmas blogs. Wish I were closer to your shop for inspiration. The Juki would be great to have in my sewing area. I am sure it would inspire me to quilt more.
My old favorite machine – learned to sew on a Sears. Is dying slowly and can’t be fixed – parts no longer made. I’m trying to decide. I have a Bernina but not my favorite. I will be ordering and it would be an extra bonus to WIN it! Fingers crossed!!
I did it! I talked to my husband and he agreed that this machine would make a great and fairly inexpensive addition to my sewing room. I’m so excited! Happy New Year!
I know this is an old post, but I hope you can help me a little. I have TL98E Juki that I am thinking of buying from my daughter in law. In the post you said you have this machine. This machine is skipping stitches, and I am going to have to get it fixed, but do you think it would be good to purchase. I am not ready to buy the TL2010Q yet, but what do you think? Is this lower model worth purchasing? Any idea how much I should pay? I am very interested in free motion quilting and I have a Bernina I love, but the throat is just too small. I have heard nothing but good about the TL2010Q. I also think the double tension feature and the speed control are incredible features. Thanks for any suggestions you could give me.
I personally would not by the TL98E…it does not have the thread cutter, needle threader and some other things…I would buy the TL98Q or the newest models…
