DAY 3-RULER BOXES-MADE FROM PRIMITIVE GATHERINGS YARD STICKS!

I love yardsticks…and have been collecting old carpenters wood tapes for awhile too..I love anything that measures….img_9206 img_9205I did a yardstick wall in my new home sewing room…It turned out awesome…except one thing…I didn’t catch when they were building the house…the placement of the thermostat in my room..but I talked to the HVAC guys and they are going to come back and move it!!!  Then I can finish my wall of “little quits”.img_9204img_9201

I  wanted to be able to move my “little quilts” on and off the wall easily…so I hung them using metal hooks and where the yards sticks meet I added a 1 1/2″ square off cut up yard stick behind them…this creates a rod to hang the hooks…Here is a close-up of what I am trying to explain…

So with this in mind we finally ordered Primitive Gatherings Yard sticks.   Al-f in his workshop is creating NEEDFUL things with them…These ruler boxes are beautiful as well as needful…we can show you…see the following pics…You can order them empty or full…many many choices…img_9168

Of course they can be used for other “things” as well but we had to name them something…

These boxes are hand made by our special Alf in his workshop…so please…we have a bunch made…but we do not know how many you ALL are going to order..so please allow us extra time to make our boxes if we get swamped…The boxes are prices $5, $10, $18 and $34… and  a special price of $60 if you order the set of 4. These are not going out until after Christmas…so keep that in mind.

    My dad….sadly that never can be but he enjoyed the holidays so much when he was with us and they just aren’t the same without him. He was the glue that kept us together.

    I love the boxes…..I see so many possibilities of things that would fit in there and then you could move them room to room as you sewed!

    If I could spend Christmas with anyone, it would be my grandmothers, both gone for many years. But they both spent time with me as a young girl, teaching me to use needle and thread , and needles and yarn to create. I’d love for them to see how I I have grown with the seeds they planted.     The ruler boxes are great! I once saw a coffee table made of a collection of yardsticks. It was so cute! Spending Christmas with my family is what I want and what I do. I would love another Christmas with my Mom. She’s been gone 35 years and I still miss her!

    I would spend it with my mom and sister for Living people, of not living would be both my Grandma Rene, and Grandma Honey. Still have all my baking to do tomorrow, should be a fun but messy day. Loved your boxes, especially the project holder one. so super cute. Loved your pictures of how you hang your mini quilts. I have an area I hang seasonal things above the washer and dryer, and it’s not always the same size quilt, so You usually see the screws in the wall, or the dowel which doesn’t look great. I love your idea. Will have to show my husband and make it happen. Love all your little quilts too. Have a Merry Christmas.

    I would love to spend one more Christmas with my Mom and Dad. Mom passed away 2 years ago on December 30 and Dad passed away this year in May. It is going to be hard to see their empty chairs at the table this year. Merry Christmas in Heaven Mom and Dad.

    OMG…these boxes are something I can really use and I also collect yardsticks so they would add a special touch to my collection. I would definitely like to spend another Christmas with my Mom who passed away when I was only fourteen and my Dad who passed away nine years ago. I miss both of them dearly and especially at Christmastme.

    I would spend Christmas with my family in MI. Due to being in the military I have not spent Christmas with them in 8 years. However, I just separated from the military and we are planning to move back to MI this summer. So hopefully next year we will be with them!

    I would love to spend Christmas with my great great aunt Carrie. She was a quilter! I found this out when I read a copy of her will from the 1890s! She had several wool batts and unfinished tops in her personal inventory! I would love to be able to talk to her about quilting way back then!

    I would so love to spend Christmas with my Grandma Adele. She was such a beautiful person, never a harsh word from her. She adored all babies. I learned to cook, bake, can and sew from her. How wonderful it would be to relive those younger days again with her!

    I would spend Christmas with my family..which I am blessed to do! 🙂 Nothing better than all the grandchildren and my kids and my sisters and parents ALL together enjoying fellowship, laughter and good food!!     I would love for Santa to drop off some organizational helpers like those cute little ruler boxes… What a sweet idea… For me, I would use them to try and control those misbehaving Valdani threads that have a mind of their own once I take them out of their plastic storage boxes. If I were a Valdani spool, I would feel very special to get to sit inside a PG box… Merry Christmas to all!

    No doubt about it, I would spend it with my dad… gone for 14 years now. He was an ornery cuss and probably had more than one yard stick broke over his backside growing up! : ) I inherited my “spirit” from him and share his enthusiasm for life. He was a hard-working, tough-as-nails man and I miss him every day. Merry Christmas in heaven (or wherever you landed) Dad!

    Fun boxes ♡ being a retired physics teacher rulers make my heart smile! As for the question….that’s really hits the heart hard♡ more than mere thoughts or words could say is I wish we could have are little Kari back with us all…we lost her at age 13 from brain tumor. ..really that’s what I want for Christmas…to be with her & hear/ see that incredible smile 🙂 Special thoughts & prayers go out to all this season as well as every day for the little ones that have left us all too early ♡

    All of children, grand children, and extended family in a place that has a foot or two of snow for snowman making and sledding. This past Thanksgiving was the first in 20 yrs with our boys and us in the same place, we were missing 2 grandchildren though. My Christmas wish may never happen, but it would be fun to see all of our grand enjoy the snow as much as their dads did growing up.

    My daughter, son in law and two grand children! I have not seen my daughter for Christmas in over 10 yrs. we don’t travel during holidays because we have both of our mom’s with us (95 yrs old) and we don’t want to leave them alone. It makes me sad not to be able to spend the holiday with them, but it warms my heart when they call and tell me what Santa left! That project box is quite awesome!

    How clever are those ruler boxes?! My dad was a master carpenter and cabinet maker, I wonder what happened to his carpenter’s rule? If I could spend Christmas with anyone at all, it would be my mother , who is 95 and doesn’t have a lot of Christmases left. Because of weather , we will wait until spring and hope she continues in good health – and good health and Merry Christmas to you, your family and staff.

    I would love to spend Christmas with my whole family. Last Christmas Eve my family was all together, every child, grandchild & great grand child. A month later my Dad was dead. Family is everything.

They were best friends and shared the passion of quilting…. back in those days I had no interest in quilting other than to play under the frames that hung from the ceiling…. I had tea parties with my baby dolls and it was the safest, most loving place on earth.

    I would love to spend another day with my Grandma Sarah – she died much to young in her 60s – but she is the one that taught me all things sewing – hand – machine – and to be resourceful – I wish I could share with her some of my projects – she would be delighted – I am young (78) and am busy each and every day doing what I love – hand wool sewing and quilting – I have done so many of your projects and have a few more to complete – you are like one of my best friends – thank you for all you do for us – Merry Christmas –

    If I could spend Christmas with anyone it would be my dad! I met him in 1973, I was 26, we never got to spend any Christmas together or birthdays or Father’s Day. My husband , son and I drove to California from Florida to meet him! One of my most wonderful memories. We did meet each other many times during the course of the next 30 some years till his passing at 92. I was blessed , dad was wonderful and his wife was so kind to me! She passed away when I was 8 and the older I get the more I miss her. I have a very good life with a wonderful husband and children and now grandchildren but I would love to have just one day with her.

    I would love to have some time with my grandfather, whom we called “pizelli” for his skill at eating peas off his knife at our Italian Sunday afternoon dinners. He died of Alzheimer’s soon after I married. Now that I am around the age he was then, I would love to talk to him about his family and career in Naples, growing up during the reunification of Italy, and why he emigrated. He was my only birth grandparent, although his second wife was a loving grandmother to all his brood, and he was a part of history. I missed the opportunity to have interacted with him as an adult. His unconditional love was the anchor in my turbulent childhood. Ok, now I’m tearing up.

    As for the rulers, I grew up in a house of carpenters, they are a flash back of childhood days.

    My Dad. It’s been 10 yrs and I miss him dearly. To hear his voice on Christmas would be an incredible gift. One more day.
    I have a Swedish wooden ruler and Love it. And from a yardstick, I made a frame for a small sampler I made years ago. The storage boxes are a great idea!❤️️

    If my Dear Mother of 92 years strong could enjoy Christmas like we used to share I would be so happy. But that is not possible because the last 5 years Alzheimer has got her . So I shed a few tears every day and pray a lot.

    I would love to spend time with my son who is going to grad school on the opposite side of the country. He’s just had surgery and is unable to travel. I just love having all of my children under my roof all together . It hasn’t hasn’t happened in a while, this is our second Christmas he’s had to stay on the west coast.

    If I could spend Christmas with anyone it would be my da and grandma just once more. They have both past away. They both had a love for Christmas. Mya grandma would bake and cook all the things we loved, and my dad just loved being with family because he didn’t have that when he was a child. I remember on year after I was married he and my mom and sister went away for Christmas. When they got home he came to our house. When he walked in he gave me a hug and whispered in my ear ” I will never be gone on Christmas again” . He was unable to keep that promise because he past away before the next Christmas. They may not be here in body but they are always on my heart. Merry Christmas.

    If I could spend Christmas Day with anyone, it would be my Dad. He passed away in October 2015 and he had a bunch of those rulers….my sister and I saved them all to make something to remind us of him. He was 90 and a veteran, handy with anything and everything, hence his rulers. I’ve seen a cute picture of a ruler Christmas tree where you start with a small piece of ruler at the top, then the next row is a little longer and so on, then the small piece of a ruler for the trunk at the bottom. It used all different kinds and sizes of rulers. It was framed to be a picture….like in the old whitewashed frames….
    Yup it would be my Dad.

    My Mom, I would be so happy. She passed away six years ago on Dec 16 from an accident. I didn’t get to tell her goodbye and how much I love her and how much I appreciated all that she did not only for me but so many others. And I’d include my mother-in-law too because she was also a Psalm 31 woman, raising thirteen children, doing for others and a wonderful mentor to those who asked. Yep, another Christmas with them would be wonderful. Thanks for the time you spend with us, encouraging and giving of your creative self. Merry Christmas!! 🎄❄️🎄

    That’s an easy question! My daughter who passed away three years ago at the age of 25. Oh to be shopping for her right now and wrapping gifts and baking and preparing for Christmas and just having her sitting by my side…. sigh…. It is just a wish for sure. I do love the ruler boxes, having been in the hardware business for years, it is right in my wheel house! Sure wish I had kept all of the rulers over the years, darn!

    I will get to spend Christmas with my husband, our children and their spouses and our eight grandchildren. I will also get another celebration with my parents and my brothers and their families. I do treasure each family holiday now with my parents, as my dad is 88 and mom is 85. I just hope they will know how much I appreciate them.

    I’ve been collecting yardsticks with a similar idea in mind. Yours are MUCH cooler though. These boxes are just sew special. They make my heart flutter, lol!

    IF I could spend Christmas day with anyone, I’d choose my mom and her mother. They passed on two years apart, almost 20 years ago and I miss them both so much. As they say, not a day goes by . . . My second choice for who to spend Christmas with (aside from my loving family of course) would be a group of quilters. We would play all day with our new Christmas treats and laugh and eat. Our stitches would be lovely and none of the food would cause anyone to gain an ounce. Oh don’t wake me. I’m really enjoying this.

    The ruler boxes are so cute…especially the one with Aurafil in it!!! I would spend christmas with my immediate family, 7 dogs, 1 cat, 14 chickens husband, son and beloved horse of 18 years, the only one of these that will not be with us this year is Dakota, the horse. I miss her tremendously.

    If I could spend Christmas with anyone – it would be my beloved father. I am an only child and spent many a day farming with him on the farm. However, I’m very close to my mom too. She taught me how to sew!! My wish would be that dad was here with us – to see the daughters-in-love my sons chose and to see his 2 great-grandkids.

    My dad. He’s been gone 29 years. Christmas hasn’t been the same without him. He would cart us kids all over town, we lived in Racine, looking for the perfect tree at all the tree lots, then end up at the first place we stopped and I swear we would get the first tree we looked at ! He would put all the lights on just so before we could decorate it with our homemade decorations, stringed popcorn and all that tinsel! Sure do miss him. Merry Christmas Dad. You’re the best!

    I want to spend Christmas with of my husband, our three children and their families. Various other relatives will join us but we will all miss my 91 year old mom (my quilting buddy). She is too frail and confused to join us but we will all visit her over the next few weeks. It’s the cycle of life. We should try to enjoy and appreciate what we have.

    I am lucky to be able to spend Christmas Eve with my extended family – 3 sisters and their families and our four children, and grandchildren – and Christmas with my husband’s extended family and our family. Having our son in the military home from South Korea makes it all extra special. The ruler boxes are a great way for quilters to store things and I love your “little quilt” collection.

    We will be spending Christmas with 3 of our 4 children and their families. I really wish our son in CA could join us and then our immediate family would be complete. If I were to really wish to celebrate with someone extra special it would be my Mom. She has been gone from my own siblings and me for 21 years now, but she made Christmas so joyful. What fun to be able to be with her and celebrate together again.

    I would choose to have all my family together to spend Christmas with. I think i need a chef—or a caterer even for the 10 of us in our immediate family. My daughter in law is getting the wonderful Snowman for Hire runner-all finished–my daughter is getting it with one end finished!!     My wish would be to spend another Christmas with my beautiful husband Gilbert and my two wonderful children. We lost Gilbert to cancer in 2004 and the holidays have not been the same without him here. But life goes on and I know that I will once again spend Christ’s birthday with Gilbert.     If I could spend Christmas with anyone I would choose to spend it with my Dad. He has been gone for 40 years and there are many things I wish I could ask him. He was a wise man and a loving man. I’m in the planning stages of making a quilt from a picture of Dad and my son. Dad tied a milk crate into a sled and stuffed Hunter in it with blankets and toys so he could haul him around over the snow as he did his chores. Hunter turns 50 this year, so this will be his gift of love from me.

    My grandmas! They were both amazing cooks and one was handy with all things fiber–crocheting, cross stitch, and of course, quilting. Unfortunately, she passed away before I could learn from her. And they both loved Christmas! Love you with my whole heart Grandma Johnson and Grandma Francis, and miss you so.

    We always say family is most important, but you really start to realize it as time passes and we are far apart. Thankfully, this year, we are almost all together and that is the best Christmas of all….but don’t get me wrong, your amazing ruler boxes would make this year even more special!

    Oh, I am drooling over your yardstick wall of little quilts. It is like my little wall on steroids!! Love it. I would just sit and stare!!
    The ruler boxes are wonderful! I would love to even just have a PG yardstick to add to my wall!
    I will be spending Christmas with my parents, most of my children and grandchildren. Since we didn’t think Dad would still be alive at the end of this year, I can’t think of a greater Christmas blessing–other than if the daughter in Oregon and her family could have joined us. : )

    I love how you’re hanging your little quilts! Such a great idea, and so easy to move them around. I would love a ruler box. I was just looking around my room last night for something to corral my 2-1/2″ squares I’m using for a postage stamp quilt.

    Our younger daughter is here in FLorida from NYC, and we are thrilled! A perfect Christmas would also include my older daugher, her husband and grandson and granddaughter from Sweden, and my son, his wife, and granddaughter from Japan. Maybe some Christmas soon? Merry Christmas!

    Way too many people. But they are all family. Some of them are gone and left me with some very special Christmas memories. I love an miss my mom and all my grandparents because they always provided a great Christmas. So to the living it still would be my family who I spend every Christmas with.

    I realize I am late commenting, but just have to say I am so content and happy. Moved back to Nv Thanksgiving day. Just so happy to be spending Christmas with my family. I have 8 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. Will see them all but 3 of the grand children. How blessed I am. Thank you for asking the question.

    I just saw your blog on how i spend or wish to spend Christmas. I spend Christmas on call for my hospital emergency surgery dept. I have done this job for45 years. Since i have no more small children in the group i have chosen to take call so others can spend the day with their small children. This may seem like a thankless gesture but the day after to hear all their family stories and the smiles on my co workers faces. It was worth it. Thank you for your inspiring thoughts.     If I could spend Christmas with anyone I want it would have to be my husband and my grown children!.. We won’t all be together until late on Boxing day but then we’ll celebrate on the 27th. This year we’re so blessed to also have our brand new first Grandchild, Jackson …. it will be such a reminder of what Christmas is all about …. the baby Jesus!!! Merry Christmas and many blessings in 2017!
