So there have been some questions…not too many but a few…so here we go..
first..I do not know how I’m going to set the blocks yet…I will be personally making 3 sizes and will be doing each one different…
I want to make a runner with the 2″ blocks…and a quilt with the 3 inch blocks…and I am going to do scrappy scrappy with the 6″ blocks with these charm square packs..I will get 50 blocks from these two packs…as the 6″ blocks need 2 light/2 dark charms…using the 1 1/2 HST papers.. DARKORLIGHTCHARM PACKS.
The Charm Triangle Papers come 60 sheets so that will make 60 blocks if making 2″,and 3″and 30 blocks if make 4″ or 6″
We will be making 1 1/4″ Triangle Papers to make 5″ blocks…
Just have fun with this and you don’t have to make every decision now…you can just make blocks and decide about other things later…I’ll turn you all into designers…
QUILT SHOPS & those of you who TEACH at shops…you can run this at your shops..IF and only IF you and your participants use Primitive Gatherings Triangle Paper Charm/Sheets AND you and they use Primitive Gatherings fabric from Moda…not any Moda…must be a Primitive Gathering Fabric…don’t have any? Well.. visit unitednotions.com, and look under Fabrics, Designers and then Primitive Gatherings!!! Or call our Moda Rep they would love to help you! This will make an easy kit…help you use up your fabrics on your shelves and make sure you display your blocks where everyone can see them!!! If you have any questions you can contact me… Don’t try to sneak and use what ever you have…its a very small world with social media…so please respect my time/efforts and follow my simple rules. Triangle Paper for Charms and in full Sheets can be purchased through your distributors or you can support us directly by buy from us..at primitivegatheringswholesale.com
We made it easier to find our our Charm & Triangle Papers on our site …but they are jumbled so make sure you pick charm papers if that is what you want to purchase...Charm & Triangle Papers
Also…I keep all my “works in progress” WIPs in a tall cabinet with wide skinny drawers…her is my Triangle Gatherings drawer…I have a feeling it might grow into two…those 2″ers are so stinkin cute!!!Do you notice anything in this pic? Want more than 80 blocks? Switch the values around…see my 3″ blocks..they are both Block 1…This is how you can make more blocks…
And see those fabrics?…all of them were never printed….they are the rejects off of Lakeside Gatherings and some Snowman 1/2/3…so a one of a kind quilt…but these rejected fabrics start to pile up!!! So I want to make them into something as there is nothing wrong with them…just didn’t make the show…
Can’t wait to show you what’s going on in the house today…Jeter is watching as it is being done in “his” old room…
This Stitch-Along is going to be so fun… please tell every quilter you know!!! I want to see lots of quilts in 2018!!! We’ll do a book!!! Your quilt could be in it!! So exciting!!

Am impatiently waiting for my P.G. fabric order to arrive so that I can start stitching! It’s selling like crazy at my LQS, so I had to buy some from the shop and order some online. That’s a good thing for you, Lisa!
(Okay, I may or may not have already sewn a couple of blocks with the fabric I already have…)
Ha….thanks…for understanding I want to promote my things…I know I cannot control this…but it is nice that my customers get it!!! I appreciate the comment Liz
Seriously–a 2″ block? Now I feel like I have been challenged and I have to try it.
Poor Jeter looks forlorn about having chaos in his room. Or maybe that is his happy face. : )
Just ordered by dark charms and papers. I’m too excited to wait for their arrival so I’ll start with some Primitive Stash. I love how you switched the values, I’m going to copy that since the charm pack comes with 2 of each fabric. Can’t wait to start!
Just wanted to tell you Lisa that your staff member Debbie was so helpful on the phone to me yesterday when I called to order primitive muslin. Nothing like a real customer service answering your questions. I had bought some of your muslin at my LQS but after seeing your post I realized I needed the lighter shade color one for my background stitchery fabric. She explained the differences to me and now I will have the correct one coming.
I am really excited about this project. I had been thinking of doing mine really scrappy using all P.G. lights and darks. I was debating over using one solid background and then saw your post to go and I’m going with my first instinct to dive into my PG stash. I’ve been saving it for the perfect project and I think I’ve found it! Thanks again for sharing this project with us! I appreciate your generosity!!!
Your blocks are so perfect, and so darn cute I just have to sew along with you. Do you use your Juki to do the paper piecing or another machine? Which machine gives you the least problems when working on such small blocks in order for there not to be nests underneath or so the machine doesn’t take bites out of the first bit of fabric going through? Thank you for such wonderful patterns and such beautiful fabric.
Bobbie…I use my Juki for everything…it is the BEST machine…if you think for a minute…I am a professional quilter…I can get any machine I want…I choose the JUKI…If you read my post on the machine on DEC 24th I talk about little pieces not getting sucked in…doens’t happen on the Juki because it only has a single hole throat plate and the feed dogs are nice and close together for tiny piecing…make sense?
Looking forward to your Triangle Gatherings sew along. Anxious now to receive my supply order that I placed earlier today at your shop. I’m enjoying your blog and wish I had been able to take a class from you when you were in Maine this past summer. However, I did have the opportunity to shop your booth which was a lot of fun & very well organized. I hope your able to come back to Maine again in the near future.
Yes…that the easiest/fastest and most accurate way to do them…and its a way of supporting me for doing this stitch along..They are $7 a pack for 60 papers
Lisa, I am looking forward to this stitch-along. I’ve made other of your patterns, but have not yet participated in a stitch-along. I want to do the 6″ blocks in the Liberty Gatherings/Wovens fabrics. Would it be best if I use yardage of those two lines or buy the fat quarter bundles or what? I want to make a larger quilt like 60″ X 72″ before borders (so 10 x 12 = 120 bocks). Your guidance would be appreciated…
I would buy the FQ bundles.. you will get 12 five inch squares from each FQ… if you bought F8 bundles you would only get four 5 five inch squares… which is only enough for 2 blocks.. you’d have plenty with the 2 towers without a ton left over
I am joining in the fun! I have not finished the Magic of Christmas SAL–Christmas got in the way! But half-square triangles, especially using your triangle papers, are my favorites. If anyone is wavering on spending the few dollars are triangle papers–jump in! They are so helpful. I’ve used them several times now, and I’m so glad they are available. I have now ordered more triangle papers and also the suggested charm packs for this stitch-a-long! Woot woot! This is going to be fun!
Hi Lisa
I want to join the fun too although it seems that I am now as clear as mud, HELP!
I want to do the 3 inch blocks, as many as you do.
Will one charm pack of light and one of dark be enough?
What size triangle paper do I use? I think 3/4 but want to hear it from you.
How many paper packs will I need?
Are the three inch blocks all going to take the same size paper so I will always be making 16 HST and just follow you on the arrangement?
Sorry I’m so ADD.
Just putting the final dark border on Winneconie Waves…pretty sure I spelled that wrong.
Hi Lisa, I need some clarity, lol, sorry. I have read all your posts, I want to try the 3″ blocks. How many charm packs do I need and will the 3 1/2″ work or should it be the 5″ charms. Just need to know before I order the triangle papers.
Thanks for your generosity and sharing!
Brenda
Brenda for the 3″ charms you will need a total of 80 light and 80 dark 5″ charms….(charm packs vari depending on what you buy, so look to see how many are in each one and if there two the same or singles).you will need to order the 3/4″ triangle papers for charms…you will need 2 packs as their are 60 to a pack…
Lisa will you be at the road to California quilt show? I would love to see what you have in person. I am not finished with the Christmas squares, but ready to get back to it.
I am loving Triangle Gatherings, but some how I am missing Blocks 5, 6, 7, 8. I got 1-4 and 9 & 10. What do I need to do to get the missing ones? Thanks, Rocky
Just discovered the Triangle Gatherings after starting Moda Blockheads. Why not do both! Did block one from stash while waiting for my charm pack and triangle papers to arrive. I’m having a hard time seeing how “I will get 50 blocks from these two packs…as the 6″ blocks need 2 light/2 dark charms…using the 1 1/2 HST papers.” For a 6″ block that would be 1 1/2 finished size – you can get 8 hst from one 5″ charm???
I purchased your 1 1/2″ triangle paper for charm squares. The paper is so big I can barely get the charm to fit in the desired area – the charms seem too small for the paper, but they are a perfect pinked 5″. I thought the paper would be a bit smaller so I could center it on the charm square. Even with a light box, I can see there is too much room for error if anything slips. Any suggestions other than scrapping the project and cutting 5.5″ squares? T.y.
Hi km – Pinked fabric is going to have less to it than the charms that we normally put these papers on. Your pinked fabric is 5″ at the point, not the inside “V” if that makes sense. There is only a 1/4 inch of wiggle room on a 5″ charm with no pinking. I would suggest that you cut on the outside dotted line to give you a little less paper to center on your 5″ charm. If this doesn’t make sense or you are still having issues, please feel free to call us at the shop so we can talk you through it! The number is 920-722-7233.
Thank you for getting back to me. I am sure the paper HAS to be this size to get the right size HST. I am now using a lightbox. I’m gluing the squares to the paper, then I flip that over and cover the charm with a larger square, then I flip it again and pin THEN I flip it again and check. I think it will be ok in the end (fingers crossed). Your instructions on where to measure the 5″ on the corners was very helpful! 🙂
I thought I replied, so sorry if this is a duplicate. Thank you SO much for getting back to me personally! I wound up using a lightbox. I’m gluing the charms onto the paper. THEN, I’m flipping and putting a larger square for the 2nd fabric. THEN I flip and pin, THEN I flip and check placement again. I haven’t started to sew or cut yet. I figure the worst that can happen is I have to cut a smidge inside all of the lines and then it may be a hair smaller than 1.5″. I’ve never worked this small before but I KNOW your papers will make it much more successful. 🙂 .
