Something to ponder…

I don’t know about you…but… do you find yourself not living your life?  I sometimes feel like I’m attached to my phone, my iPad, my fitbit, way too much…and I feel like I am missing out…I don’t mean I’m going to ditch this stuff but what about making sure I step away from it all briefly each day…

While exploring the Historic Third Ward in Milwaukee the other day I was boutique shopping and I went into a book store…I love book stores…the smell of paper, all the writing utensils..and I stumbled upon this…It was perfect for how I have been feeling lately..

The Introduction is here…

Inside…there are 365 things to do…one a day…and you don’t have to go in order…just pick one…and do it!!! They also have a spot to reflect on it and the date you completed it…here are some of the pages…

I’ve found it here on Amazon if you want to join me in this daily detox….Click here and order yours on Amazon: Unplug Every Day

I also bought this book too… I will be doing a post on this one soon too!!!  But as long as you are on Amazon…you may as well get this one too!!!

One Good Deed A Day  Here is the link for it…but they are in the frequently bought together on Amazon too!

The books are about 4″x6″ and very nicely done…and will fit in your purse!!!

So lets start living a better life…

My best,

Lisa

Good idea. Just a reminder that your and my life is full and if you add in something, and I know you have already thought of this, plan on what you are giving up. Sort of like wanting to do every block and every project we see, and realizing that your life only has room for maybe one of them. I like the good deed idea, and the be thankful for one thing every day too.

Girl, you sure hit the nail on the head today! My computer was recently corrupted! Now trying to set it up again and sometimes that is like banging my head on the wall. I want my sewing machine or Valdani threads in my hands. Going to Amazon NOW!

And please look at the art and inspiration of Katie Daisy, who drew the cover of one of the books you saw. I love Katie’s messages and her art. She is creative, like you, Lisa. I have sometimes looked at Katie’s art and quotes and have thought how to appliqué her work. Maybe you two could collaborate. And, as an aside, I suggested to your son some time ago that you do another wool mat with California and/or tropical flowers. I hope you do that someday . But, maybe that is all more work, and not in keeping with the message of slowing down and living life! I think I need those books!

I am right there with you. I just ordered three of her books. I won’t be in Paducah this year. First time in 30 years. We are going to Dear Jane in Shipshewana for a retreat with Rosemary Youngs group. It is Jane’s 200 birthday. So we are going to celebrate!!
I can’t wait for the books. I think they will help me tremendously

Isn’t it funny that they sell a kindle version of “Unplug Every Day”? Still, I love the idea – the paper version should be unplug #366!

Lisa Thank you so much for all your posts but especially this one. I have been at too many occasions where cell phones are whipped out constantly and the viewer is not enjoying the moment. I have been trying to unplug and I think this book will be the catalyst to finish it. God bless you for always thinking of other people. Cathy

I don’t have a phone or a TV but do spend time on my computer once a day for emailing my kids, FB snooping and a bit of news. Otherwise I read the paper ( NY Times) everyday and sew or garden…it is a fantastic retirement and find I don’t mind being out of the main stream by NOT having the gadgets. I sadly watch my granddaughter competing for attention from her folks who are hooked to their phones. Happy Sewing and thanks for the reinforcement not to get the electronics!

Hi Lisa, so funny you should mention this… I was in a bookstore last week to pick up my son’s book for school and found myself meandering around and stopping by a table filled with inspirational small books such as these. I was tempted to buy one but waited. Many times I feel I am living someone else’s life, and it is sometimes a bit overwhelming. Though lately I have been comparing myself to my father…. who had all the creative tools… but not the time… and now he can no longer do his carpentry for medical reasons. Then I think of you and am inspired. Hugs, Jakey

There is a great article that floats around the internet about the addictive nature of devices and how the responses we get to posts are like endorphins, they act like drugs, alcohol, chocolate, etc.

So far I have resisted getting a smart phone for that reason. I do have a flip phone from trac phone that lives in my purse for emergencies only. I do spend more time checking e-mails and facebook than I should. It’s easy to have a love hate relationship with technology. I love these little books, how easy it is to forget to stop and smell the roses.

Thanks for the reminder to live our lives without so much technology. As an “older chick” who refuses to get caught up in Facebook or continual texting and being glued to a device, I find it hard to grasp the immediacy some people feel is necessary. Yea for you to encourage us to get back to a slower, more personal life. Some of my best moments are face to face with people, or just sitting and reading an actual book, though I understand why e-books are useful, especially when travelling, where space is limited for hard copies of books. After hearing a speaker at our Rotary explains how our lives, and privacy, are tracked by the devices we use, and wear, I have less desire to attach anything more to myself which will threaten my bank account, and privacy.

Thank you! Thank you for taking your precious time to tell us and show us your awesome find. Your email notes are one of the few that I read everytime. I’m usually not a “commenter” but this touched me in a profound way. You are appreciated in many ways, and many we don’t know until you post something extra special – maybe just to you and one other person, but that’s enough. Again, thank you.

    Great ideas on this book

I try to find time for a yoga practice 2 or 3 times a week and slip in a few Asanas (postures) when it feels right during the day. It’s a great way to focus on being in the moment which always helps me disconnect

Lisa, You are spot on! I particularly like the One Good Deed book. How many of us go through each day thinking of all the things we need to do and want to fit in and be plugged in – because we don’t want to miss anything – and thus, we are missing the most important things. Thanks for the nudge into reality. Hugs and many thanks.

I have an ‘old fashioned’ flip phone that lives at the bottom of my purse. I use it for emergencies only. Yes, It bugs people that they can’t get hold of me 24-7, but it does not bug me…I have no desire to upgrade and be wired in all day long….and I can’t you how many times I have gotten lost, but I am so enjoying this journey of life.
