Mini Quilt Show…Mini Quilt Wall…

I am so excited to receive your mini quilt for our quilt show!!! So I was thinking about hanging them and remembered…. I forgot to, and promised to share with you the details of my Mini Quilt Wall in my home sewing room…

I used random yardsticks that I have collected through the years…from antique stores and sometimes even on eBay…(We have Primitive Gatherings Yardsticks for sale at shows and I know we have them in the store, so if you want them you will have to call as there is something about the shipping of them and that is why they are not on the site)…I then lightly stained them all.

The yardsticks are attached to the wall by using a spacer.  I cut up one of the yard sticks at 1 1/2″…then placed them behind the front stick…so it is hidden.  I then screwed (must pre-drill to avoid splitting the yardsticks) one to the wall at the very start.  Then where the 1st one end and the 2nd one begins I place another spacer, so it would be half under the 1st on and half under the second.  Repeat for how long your wall is or the space you want to fill…

I then used these small Mini Metal Hooks   to hang them on the yardstick…two for most of them and three for the larger minis so they wouldn’t sag in the middle.  When you get the clips they look like this…use a pliers and open the hook a little more so they easily hook on the yardstick.  These hooks are also cut for hanging lots of other things like little mittens or ornaments, everyone should have some…

I hope you do not have this little problem I originally had….When the installers put in the controls for my room…they randomly spread them out!!! But for a little money they came back and tucked them all together and out of the way of my “wall”.The quilts are real easy to put up…take down…and re-arrange…If you are making a “mini wall” you must send me a picture…I will post them all someday!!!

Sorry this took a bit for me top post…I know some of you are “ready”!!!!

have a nice weekend…Lisa

I love your mini quilt wall…and the quilts there are so wonderful that I can’t decide upon a favorite. My husband is not a handyman type so I’ll have to figure out how to do this myself for my minis – wish me luck!

Lisa merci pour ce partage. Je suis une fane des minisminis patchs. J’aime beaucoup l’idée et j’adore vos mini couettes tous aussi beaux les uns que les autres. Pour ma part après des grands patchs, Je me suis mis à faire des petits.

Thanks Lisa for sharing your great wall, and the clips! They should work well on the little table display made of wrought iron. I was struggling with not like the idea of adding a sleeve, and these clips look perfect! I jumped up and ordered the 50 pack!

It is a very gorgeous display of beautifully designed mini quilts. Eveyone has great combination of colors and prints on their quilts along with designs of patterns of quilts. Great job!

I love this large wall of minis, Lisa! I did a smaller version in my home a few years ago after seeing Ann Hermes’ yardstick gallery on her blog. Wish I could do something this big. Maybe I will send you photos of what I have.

Since I receive your blog posts via e-mail, replying to your e-mail was the only way I could figure out how to send you a picture of my Mini Quilt Wall. I loved your idea when you first posted it last year and had to make one in my new quilt studio when we moved into our new home last year. The shelves above hold current Works in Progress.

OMG! Should there be a clinic for HVAC installers?! We built our home in 2008. As we were building it I was already planning how to decorate. I was anxious to use a specific wall. It is straight in from the front door. It’s about 6-7 feet wide. The ceilings are vaulted and the entire area to the left is open (great room and dining). To the right is the opening to go into the kitchen (behind the wall) hallway on the right to laundry basement, bedroom etc. This is a great focal wall and actually the best wall in our home to decorate. My husband installed our thermostat smack dab in the center of the wall!!! I could not believe it. How could anyone not know better??? When I commented on it he said this is the way we always do it…… Fortunately ours is a remote unit and not hardwired. I put up with it for @ 7 years and finally decided I could no longer stand it. I removed it myself. There are holes from the screws and the fittings but from then on there is always a quilt over it.

Thank you so much for sharing exactly how to hang these yardsticks! Since you posted such great pictures in the instructions I just MIGHT be able to get my husband (no Bob Villa) to do this 🙂 If not we have a family friend that I could have do this for a steak dinner! So worth it.

ps – Lisa, do you think a couple of these would hold a larger quilt? Am wanting to put something up behind our bed.

Thanks for tutorial on how you use yardsticks. I also hang my miniature quilts from a yardstick… I do it with tiny wooden clothespins.
