Quilting is not something we do now and then…it really is a lifestyle….for most of us anyway…we do not just make a quilt when a baby is on the way or someone needs a wedding quilt…right? It’s on our mind most of the time…If we are still working we are dreaming of when we can just stitch!!! I know I used to punch a clock for someone else everyday so I know that is what you are doing…but some of you are retired or have lots of time for quilting…I see you on social media…know how creative you are and how we all love to see what you have made with your hands…

When I first saw this journal you’ve created, I thought it was such a great idea! I rarely even get a label put on my quilts! The only record I kind of have, and it’s only for the last 8 years or so, is things I’ve posted on Facebook. Someday, people will look at my quilts and wonder when they were created and if there was a reason why. I think this journal idea is so wonderful for future generations. I often wonder about the story behind the many antique quilts I see. And you having so many antique quilts, probably do as well! For all quilters, this would be a fun project for 2018, to get our quilt history, down on paper to pass along as part of our legacy.
I don’t journal per se, but make lists of quilts that I’m working on and want to work on in the future!
I have been journaling for several years now. American Patchwork would sent one with there calendar every year. So probably for the last ten years I would keep a list of the tops I made and the ones completed (quilted) along with a picture. Thanks you for all you do. We really appreciate how you have helped us grow as quilters.
This is exactly what I’ve been waiting for! I’ve tried several others but they weren’t user friendly. I’ve even tried making a cute fabric covered notebook. It’s darling but I never use it. I’ve given up on keeping track of all my projects! I make quilts with several groups as well as for my family so it’s hard to keep up. I hope this would help me concentrate on finishing some projects and give me incentive to work on the new ones I have in mind. I do keep a record with pictures on my phone of my own quilts. 😊
No I do not have a journal, but do know I should as I have been quilting since 1982…. oh my, how old I am… and sooooo many quilts I lost count! lol… Merry Christmas

I do have a notebook where I sometimes make note of a finished project, although so don’t always remember to do it!
I just write my notes in a blank notebook…nothing fancy, $3.99 on sale at CVS. It’s the contents that count! I write progress notes on my SALs, design ideas, what I was doing when something noteworthy happened, or just how I felt this day. I’ve also been taping in fabric swatches or sketches of current design projects. It’s fun to look back and see what has changed and what has stayed the same from just one week to the next.
No, I do not have a journal but wish I did. I started quilting in 1993 and never even thought about taking pictures or writing anything down about a quilt. Why did I make this, who is it for? I wish I would have had something like this all those years ago.

I am hoping this journal with the inspiring pictures will keep me motivated to continue using a journal. In the past I have started keeping a journal in two different notebooks. I have a little book I try and keep track of all the quilts I have started, the sizes of the strips, colors I am working with.
I try and keep track if I need more of anything, which I always do.
In the book it tells me if I started to quilt it or bind it, who it is for.

I started to journal when I started to quilt then I began making more quilts and let the journaling go. My girls wish I had kept it up because they forgot about when I made some of the quilts I have made for them and for others.
May be this is what I need to get on track.
This is a lovely journal Lisa. I have always taken a photo of what I make but never a journal. A journal would be a great record to pass down to family so they can see what our love of fabric created. Great give away. Enjoyed your Christmas needful things this year.

No I don’t have a quilt journal but I would love to have one. I have however made some scrapbook pages of quilts that I have made that have meaning to me or the recipient. I include notes that I ha vet jotted down , a picture of the progress, and material scraps too. This book though would be great!
This journal looks fabulous! I do not have a journal, this is exactly what I need. At the end of the year when you start thinking about all the projects you started and can’t remember the finishes I think this will really help to see exactly what you did accomplish over the year. I used to keep a personal journal but haven’t been lately. I do try to keep track of my WIPS and pre-cuts etc. but everything is in separate notebooks or post its. I need to get more organized.

Oh I think this is just what I need! I see things all the time that I want to try or make and don’t have a way of tracking, so I forget all about it. I also have ideas for something new and do the same thing. So this would be very useful for me. I love it!
GAH! I have never ‘quilt’ journaled or kept track of the many, many quilts I have made …. in the beginning I was lucky to get a label on the back, now I have let that slide too. Admittedly, I have found myself wondering what year I made a specific quilt … this really is a great idea. It’s even a way to look back and see how our skills progress, and how our taste and color styles evolve over the years. I know I’ve gone through ‘appliqué’ phases, lots of star quilts, to patchwork and then back to appliqué again. This is great timing with making New Year’s resolutions – to get more organized in 2018!
I made my own journal years ago after seeing what Alma Adams used in an article in American Patchwork & Quilting Magazine. I would love to win your journal, it is indeed filled with inspiration! Thanks for the giveaway and Merry Christmas!
I do not write down my quilting thoughts, that would be why I forget some of the ideas for hand quilting etc. as I get older my mind doesn’t work as well. This could be the answer to all my problems! Thanks Lisa you are always thinking 🎄🤞🙂
Oh my, such lovely photographs! I have many journals but my life is a bit boring to write in them. I do make lists galore so I have a different journal book for each topic. I only have one quilting journal but it’s more modern. I love the vintage look of yours – the quilts stacked in the cupboard-the antique pressing irons-just lovely. I have written down when I started my quilts, sandwiched them, quilted them, the pattern and designer and so forth so t would transfer that information to this book. I think I’ll be ordering it soon.
I use a graph paper notebook, where I use colored pencils to draw out patterns and notes about my inap I rations and ideas.
I don’t keep a written journal, but I have an album on my computer of all the quilts I have made, and another album of pictures of quilts that I hope to make. Your journal looks wonderful

Pictures on my phone are the only record I have. No recording of fabric purchase or pattern name. Hoping memory will serve. In my sister’s present is a quilter’s journal I picked up off of the free table at a guild meeting. Need to start keeping a better record of my own journey.

When I saw your new journal, it made it to my wishlist. My journals in the past have consisted of whatever paper I have handy and then is paper clipped to the one before. It is so much fun to go back and look at what was once a goal and is now a completion. Also fun to see what I might have thought was important at one time and has slipped off my radar.
I do have a journal – or two, or three! I keep track of quilt ideas, projects to do, projects done . I have one for my Bee group and one or two with pictures of finished quilts and who they were made for, along with pictures of antique quilts and their stories. As long as it’s quilting related – makes me happy! Merry Christmas!

Lisa, I try to take a picture of the quilt I made. I usually ask the person I made the quilt for to hold the quilt . That way I have a snapshot of exactly who, what, where, and wht I made the quilt. I keep my pictures on file on my computer. But a journal would be a great way to keep my pictures and notes together in one place.
Interesting as my friend gave me a journal to keep track of all the quilts I make. But it is not like yours at all.
My friend just gave me a journal for Christmas. Totally different from yours.
For the last 2 years, I have been keeping a record of what I accomplish each day in the way of sewing/quilting/crafting. At the beginning of each year, I make a list of quilting goals for the upcoming year. Of course, I add to the list when I see new inspiration. This year, I completed over 30 projects. About 5 are still on the list. Some would call me anal. I like to think of myself as organized.
Your journal is lovely and would be perfect for 2018.

No journaling here….I’ve wanted to start so many times but haven’t done it. This book may be what I need…not only for my quilting, but also for daily gratitude! I have used a one-page paper method of tracking my yearly goals, but haven’t gotten into a “formal” way of spurring myself on. Our Guild has a UFO challenge, I try to complete the items on my list, and then add more as I complete them, just so I can put a big line through that entry! When I’m at work I dream about the quilting I wish I were doing and jot down a quilting wish list. Let me say I really do love my job and that wish list just helps me keep my joy on…
I have never been one for journaling. I love this one, but don’t know if I would write in it or just look at it again and again! At the beginning of each year I start keeping a list of things I start/finish including the books I read. As the year goes on, I stop writing on that list so even keeping a list goes to the wayside. Lisa, I try to take pictures of all my quilts, but never get them printed and into a book. Your journal book will encourage me to do so. Quilting has been a passion for me, as you said. I took quilting with me everywhere I went and worked on it at lunchtime, ballgames, waiting for appointments, even stitched in restaurants while waiting for food! Despite working full time I have been pretty productive. Now I have ALS and I can’t hold a needle or scissors, so hand sewing is out. I have lots of your beautiful wool kits that I had hoped to make when I retired, but it is not to be since I can no longer hand sew. I am going to purchase this book for my friends who have helped me with cutting, quilting, sandwiching, taking tops to the quilter, and putting on my bindings, so I can still have some finishes. I have loved your patterns and kits. Thank you for inspiring me to make beautiful quilts for so many years.

I have a planner, which is not really the same thing. This sounds lovely.
I always take pictures of the finished quilts (and along the way of construction to keep on track). I always put a label on the quilt. But, I do not have a place where they are all recorded. Wow, your journal is magnificent!!! I currently just take a photo of every quilt I make and put it in an album with all my other quilt photos, which have the date on the back. This would be such a huge improvement over that method, in that much more information could be shared for future generations.
Oh Lisa, I wish! Truly, I do not even know how many quilts I’ve made (dozens? hundreds??) let alone kept track of the making, or where they all went. I “think” about starting a journal, but it never gets going. Little slips of paper that end up lost or in the trash … Do I need your book? YES please…
You are so right Lisa. When I was punching a clock, like you I dreamed of the day when I would have time to quilt more. That day came in the year 2000 when I retired. I have had a wonderful 17 years of MY fun stuff. I have probably made hundreds of quilts in that time and oh how I wish I had a journal to write them all down. Early on (about 25 years ago) I had a journal. I noted all the quilts I made along with pictures. Once the book was filled I did not continue. I love your beautiful quilts and displays you share in the book you created. This would inspire me to begin journaling and once again document my quilts and my life.
A New Journal is always an inspiration to journal! It is fun to write about what I do in the quilting world each day.
Your book could be the inspiration I need to start journaling about my quilting and maybe even other things.

I tried to keep track of my quilts in a marbled notebook, but about mid-year it lost my interest… maybe because it just wasn’t pretty or inspiring enough? Thank you for the fun!

Everything you said about the quilting lifestyle is SO TRUE! I am retired and quilting is pretty much part of my everyday routine. I feel deprived when I can’t get into my sewing room. My sister is a quilter and is still working. When I share my projects with her – which I do frequently through the magic of text messaging – she tells me how she is dreaming of retiring and being able to sew everyday. She’s turning 62 in January, so I am hoping we’re getting close. Already planning quilting trips and retreats for sisters in crime!
This will be the year to start journaling. I think I remember everything that I’ve made over the course of a year, but my brain is starting to run out of memory!
I have pieces of paper that have my notes to self: quilt patterns I have and want to make, quilts that are ready to quilt, where to find the bindings, etc. so when I am ready to add to one of my “notes to self”, I start looking for the right piece of paper, and I look, and I look, and Ikeep looking until I give up and get another piece of paper. I not only want a journal, but I NEED a journal. So when I saw your announcement for yours, I pre-ordered it. CAN’T WAIT!!!!!
This year is the first time I wrote down on a piece of paper everything I worked on monthly. I could never remember what I accomplished. I’ve enjoyed rereading what I worked on. I’ll continue writing down my accomplishments. Writing in your journal would be wonderful. P.S. I LOVE the purple pen💜

Yes, I’ve been journaling a long time. Mine (I’ve filled several over the years) include a picture of the quilt. I give so many away, so it’s fiun to go back and revisit some of those quilts. You journal would fit right in in my sewing room. 🤗
Since my day does not have enough hours in it, I find pieces of paper to put my next thought and project on. Then….when ready to start my idea or just remember that idea…..the paper is gone! So many ideas somewhere….. This will be my idea brain!! I will be able just to go to my book from one page to another. IDEAS TO FILL A LIFE TIME IN ONE PLACE. Yea….

I document my quilts by taking pictures…but the info is in a different place…..or maybe places!! Now, my ideas can be found in different places also!! I don’t have a journal….but I think I need one!! Hopefully, I could finally keep it all in one place!! The pictures are beautiful!! Wow!! An entire truck of your books!! That definitely needs to be a blog post!!
I use little composition notebooks. They are spread all over the house. Thank goodness for My Soul Is Fed With Needle and Thread Valdani thread Notebook. At least that keeps me partially organized!

Sadly I have not been keeping a quilting journal but like Oprah says “when ya know better, ya do better” so I’m going to order two, one for me and one for my BFF as we like having the same awesome items, take classes together and of course see together;-D

I have taken photos of all my quilts – the ones I given away and the ones I keep. I have an album & they are all tracked to who I gave them to. Sadly , my Mom & a dear friend have taken them with them to heaven to keep them warm , if you know what I mean , oh here come the tears. I think of quilting ALL the time, even when I’m working 7 hours a day !!!!

I do keep a journal- a daily one where I jot a few quick thoughts about the day and a travel one for when I go places. I would love to add a quilting journal!
I don’t have a journal for my quilts, but I keep thinking of starting one. It seems a shame that I didn’t document the quilts I already made, because now I can’t remember the dates when I finished or some of my thought processes while I was working on each one, which would be nice to know now.
I have kept a journal for over 30 years, ever since I was in junior high. I have used the journal for clarifying things, remembering things and even settling disagreements over events that happened. I think this journal is a special way of documenting a quilter’s life and keeping these thoughts in a special place. Thanks!

I do keep a journal by photos and notes of each project. (Inspiration, pattern, size, batting, date started/finished, who I gave it too). I have been quilting for over forty years so I have 3 large binders full. Each of my quilts have a label also.
I feel so blessed each day to be able to sit and quilt. It is so soothing and peaceful.

I don’t have a “journal” per se but I use my day planner as one, jotting down things other than appointments on each day so it does double duty. LOL you should see it; notes on the pages, sticky notes on future days to remind me of something, shopping lists for different stores, highlighted items, and etc. I’m planning on getting your journal for a couple of reasons 1. to see what lovely pictures you’ve included of quilts around your home and 2nd. now that I’m retired from my full time job I want to track my quilting progress so when you announced it I knew it was for me. I don’t have a journal of my quilts, but I quilt my own quilts and have a list of the quilts I’ve quilted with a short description and how I quilted it. At that point the quilt is almost done as I usually bind it shortly after quilting it.
I used to take pictures and document all of my quilts. Then I got lazy. This is just the inspiration I need to start up again. Maybe I’ll even put in a few pictures of my own “little men.”

I don’t have anything that I write down my accomplishments on, though I do keep plenty of graph paper around to jot down ideas of quilts and blocks that I want to see if they will work. I’m going to order this great looking journal, because it will be a perfect place to record my quilting journey!!
I think about it all the time, 2018 is the time to DO IT!!! My sister keeps a journal and records all projects along with thoughts. More than once she goes back to look up the date, etc. So I am off to ordering mine own. If I win one, she will get it!!!!

I love the idea of recording my quilts. Who it was for, date finished, etc. but I haven’t been doing it. I do have a list that I update every January. It has all my UFOs listed that I want to finish. I cross them off and write the date completed. I have several years of lists, but it would be nice to have it in a journal.
Oh your journal looks so great!! I’d love to put it to use. I have a calendar on my wall that I star with a sharpie when I get to sew for 15 mins a day. I don’t keep track of my future projects because I usually start sewing on something I “feel” like sewing on or if I have something that I want to sew for someone. I do keep a journal. And I review it occasionally to remember what fun things I did and what made me happy on a previous day. Often it spurs me on to “keep on stitching”.
I had a journal when I first started quilting in the early 70s, and then life got in the way.
No I don’t have a journal. Journaling would be a great way to catch the random ideas for quilts! I know I get plenty of ideas for quilting just not enough time to do.
I totally agree with you Lisa that quilting is a way of life for most of us. I try to write down a list of the quilts I make during a year, but seem to focus more on the list of quilts I hope to make in the coming year!!! I can’t wait to get your journal. Maggie B.
I take pictures of my quilts but do not journal your book and my pictures need to come together.
I’ve saved the photos but never taken the time to add the pertinate info to each to save a record of my work. Maybe a permanent journal would give me a jump start to get going!
I have never had a journal, but it is a great idea. I can see it being motivation to accomplish more.
I do try to keep track of compete projects just so I remember what I have done! Been doing this 4 a couple of years. I try to take photos of projects but when I list my phone this year I lost all those treasures!
Yes I already keep a journal of quilts in progress, quilts ready to b quilted and labeled. Also quilts I start each year. I just use a steno book though. Paula in KY

Every year I think it would be fun to keep a journal and that’s as far as I’ve gotten. Now that I’m retired and living in the woods in our just built retirement home I have so much to say and your new journal is a beautiful place to record my thoughts and accomplishments.
I don’t have a journal, I tend to sketch on available scrap osier and wonder later… “What was I thinking?” An occasional sketch makes it to the cutting board/iron/seeing machine but often my inspirations are lost in the daily doings of life. I guess a journal would be in order! I like the way yours is organized!
Make that scrap paper, not scrap osier! Osier is a willow tree, right?!
This looks awesome. I have 2 journals that I have filled in my quilting life. It is mostly a collection of finished projects with a photo of each quilt. I am excited to start a journal with ideas and thoughts for future projects.
No, but I have scraps of fabrics and pictures to put in one. If I ever get around to it. I just finished 7 quilts for Christmas gifts.

I’d love to own this book… but I’m a terrible procrastinator!! I always think “I’ll do it tomorrow,” but tomorrow never comes!! Ask me how the yoga is coming, oh that’s right, I haven’t started yet =} Can you carry over a New Year’s resolution!? Anyway, I’m a real sucker for a good pen!! 😉. Merry Christmas everyone!
I do have a journal. It is a well loved and somewhat worn book.
I was really impressed with Marie’S comment that she has been journaling for 60 years. I wish I had started at the beginning of my quilting. Lately I have been keeping track of monthly goals so I have some idea of what I have been doing.
I definitely am ready to start instead of feeling so scattered with all the ideas and quilts I see and can get them written down and planned out!
I am getting back into journaling because I need to stay organized. I have so many projects that need to start and or get finished so I an determined to get ‘em done!
I have never kept a journal, but am wishing I did. I don’t even have photos of the real early quilts, they were just quilts then, for beds, but somewhere along the line that changed. Now I do take photos at least. I have a sketch book where quilts are planned, drawn & math done. Also pics from magazines and list of in progress projects. It’s quite old and full, so your new journal may be just what I need now that I’m retired.
I don’t have a journal. No one in my family would be interested in my quilting journey, thoughts, accomplishments. It if would journal, it would be for me. I need to think how I would best use a quilting journal. My gift to myself.

I do not have a written journal but I have been chronicling my fairly new quilting journey with photos. It seems I give away half of what I make so it is nice to have the pictures for memories. I’m going to buy the book so I can add thoughts about the quilts as well as particulars about the details.
I’ve never thought about keeping a quilting journal. Not such a bad idea though. I’d love to win one, but if not, I’ll have to buy one and start a new tradition. Thanks for the idea.
Hi Lisa, I have a journal of class tips & tricks and one of ideas. However, neither formats are as lovely as your inspirational journal. I’ve always wanted to document my quilt projects too. Thanks for being so creative. Hugs, Jakey
This will be the answer I’m looking for…a place to record the “bucket list”. And to check the quilts off that bucket list once they’re finished!
You know….I have never written in a journal. But lately I have been taking pictures of everything that I make.(quilts, wall hangings and other quilty things). I would like to print these pictures and put them in a journal with information about them. I wish I had done that long ago. Getting this journal from you will give me a good start. Better late than never.
I do have a notebook that I started last year and did not consistently keep up. That is one of my goals this year–to be more accountable to myself. A nice journal would be a great help!
No ,I do not journal but a great idea. Sometimes the fabric reminds me of my grandmas house,colors I like,or why did I chose that design,why did I make it for this one person….what a history to record…..will be a fun journal to own. 🙂

I don’t journal about my quilts but just take a photo. It might be a good idea to journal about events going on as the quilt is being made.

I tried one year to simply keep a list of projects (small & large) that I finished………that didn’t work too well. This would be great! Love it!
I have not routinely kept track or journaled my quilts. But just recently, after making a wedding quilt for someone, I thought that I need to. I make a lot of quilts that go out the door and would like a way of keeping track of what I have done. This looks like a great idea.
I do keep track of projects, but it’s in a lame little loose-leaf notebook. This journal looks much classier! Can’t wait to order one.
One of my quilt group friends gave us each a blank journal a few years back and I used it for a couple years and fell out of the habit. I like that yours has some prompts of topics to keep track of. My mom used to write in a journal type book, one for each year, and now that she is gone, I love to read them, it is like spending time with her. I’ve learned things about her, things she didn’t tell us out loud. I’d love to again use a journal like this as I think it might make me be more intentional about how I am spending my time.
I presently don’t journal but I would like to. My time is often thinkng about quilts and ideas about creating new quilts, thinking about different color or fabric combinations. Always looking for ideas that I can create from my fabric stash (resource center ).

I don’t keep a journal. I would like to do a photo journal of all the items I’ve made. One of these days.

I keep a journal, have for years. I used to hand write but it’s become more difficult to find nice journals for that purpose. In recent years I’ve kept my journals on my mac then printed them out each year. I’d dearly love to get them printed and bound in the hopes that a future generation would enjoy reading them. I love the idea of a photo journal to go along with the hand written words. I do something like that when I’m sketching inspirations.
This is the answer i am looking for. I am looking to retire in the next month and will plan to sew all day, every day.
