Home project…you know the kind that keeps pestering you in the back of your mind…
I have had this project festering in me for about a year…but I just couldn’t take the time to pull it off…I am sure we all have them…I tried to get it done before Christmas…that did not happen so it became my Christmas card holder….it ended up having lots of cards on it but must not have taken a picture of it at all…(probably should have cropped that Harley boot out of the pic!)but…in February, when I did not have one travel date…I started setting aside a little time to work on my “project”. ย
My son Jake, had found two of these 6 foot+ windows on the curb, on trash day a few years back…the minute I saw them I new I would “use” them for “something”… So when we moved into the new house I had saved this wall in my back hall/office area for this window…We just celebrated 2 years in the house!
The first step was to wash the years of “smokers” residue off the inside…the outsides were so much cleaner…I think it took more 4 times in each pane to be satisfied with them…once the window was cleaned I started going through the photos…to pick 25 great pictures or memories that I wanted to “see” everyday….was the hard part.
The insides of the panes were a little bigger than 11″ not perfectly square but just a little longer…So..I checked Walgreens…they had an 8″x 8″ photo size ….that could not have been more perfect for this…I ordered them all online…with a matte finish…they came 3 days later in the mail. ย Some of my photos were professionally shot that i just scanned or took a photo of with my phone…yup…I took photos of my old photos and are they perfect?…no…but they worked. ย Could some of them be better?… yes…if the photo was a earlier cell phone shot and not the best quality but who cares…I love all my photos here…Did I maybe find one or two after the fact…yes, but I can always move some in and out…here’s how I did it…
Now…how was I going to put the pictures in the windows? ย I did not want to tape them to the front…I really wanted them “behind” the glass….so this is what I discovered….photo corners…you know those black little triangles that hold a picture to the page?…they were popular long time ago and then for scrapbooking…they come in CLEAR!!!…all I had to do was to use them backwards….put the photo corners with the sticky side to the glass and then insert my photos inside the corners, picture facing the glass and that is what is holding the photos in place…also…this makes them very easy be switched out!!! ย Click to order Clear PHOTO CORNERS …they were very inexpensive…but order more than you need…as some will be damaged in the process.
The hardest part was getting them in the exact location on the glass, but with all those fine quilting rulers we have this was actually pretty easy…they were tricky to handle but I managed to get them placed without too much cussing…yes…a few of them were “lost” in the process”…it took me less than 2 hours to place them in…and the results were ย A-MAZING!!!! ย I couldn’t have been more pleased at how it all turned out!!! ย
All the photos now in….just waiting to be hung…We bought heavy duty hangers and spaced them ย 16″ apart where the studs in the wall are…and it’s perfect! ย You really can’t even see the photo corners…It is hard to get a good photo of how amazing this is… in this spot…I can’t stand back far enough from it to get a whole shot…but here is the best I can do….I also was going to touch up the window but then decided…I liked that the paint was uneven…cracking and you know… just showed it’s life…
Hope you enjoyed this post…and maybe it inspired an idea for something you can do with an old window….all for now…LB

This is amazing I love it. I am now going to be looking out for old windows. I think it would make a great gift for a wedding and anniversary Etc thanks for sharing.
You never cease to amaze me. I missed your blogs in Feb and am so glad you are back in a routine of sending them out again. What a great idea. Genius, pure genius. Keep it coming my dear. Vangie Brake, Ontario, Canada
Love it!
Iโm relieved no one can see the picture of me in there!! Lol!
Oversized is perfect for that space.
So much about your finished home pulls at all of us, way to go!
AHHHHHHHHHHMAZING! I love it and I’m going to borrow this idea from you with an old window I saved from replacing the windows in my house (lol if I can get to it in the garage), it’s not as big as your window but It will work. Have a super fantastic day
I LOVE that you included the picture of the dog (Jeter?) in your family pictures, because if you are a dog lover, they truly are a part of your family. I love your blog, but really really really! love the pictures you post of your home and how it’s decorated. Your home is spectacular, and it’s decorated just the way I dream of doing my home some day. thanks for opening your home & heart to all of us.
I used old windows I replaced in my family home and put quilt patches my mother had made on the inside of the window and gave one to each of my sisters so they would have a piece of home and our momโs handiwork.
That is really great I have old windows from my parents home and I plan todo the same thing they are not as big as yours but will work already have the photo corners
Thanks for sharing Lisa. Congratulations on making the time to do this project…well worth it!
Not easy to find a window with so many panes… usually only 6 or maybe a few more!
Wow! This looks great! And so nice to have these pictures out where you can see them instead of stuck inside our phones.

Wonderful result. Great that you decided to let the life of the old woodwork show too. I can show this to my hubs so he can see why I salvage old things like this window.
I love it……………………..Thanks for sharing……..I haven’t done mine yet because I couldn’t find a way
to attach the pictures to make it look good ! You are AWESOME !!!
Omg, I love it, I have to tell you something I was so excited about. I love your lines, your blog and your passion for quilting and design. Yesterday, my husband And I drove to Neenah, Menasha, to pick up a piece of furniture. We took a wrong turn, I was so happy, we drove by your store twice. I found you, I live near Waupaca, on White Lake, I will be a new customer in person, just not with the hubby in a UHaul. I hope you have a blessed day. Thanks Sandi

Hi Lisa, I guess great minds do think alike. This is my photo door. I put chicken wire behind part of it and clips on the glass parts so I can change them out regularly! Beckie Stabile-Murrieta store
This is so great. I love the way you knew just what you were going to do with the discarded window. Such a Creative mind. Thanks for sharing and always inspiring us.
OH MY FREAKIN GOSH!!!!!!!!!! That is amazing. Love love love it. What a flash of brilliance. That s the best idea I have ever seen, no lie. Absolutely perfect for your space.
What a great way to get those pictures out of “HIDING” and into your daily life! Great idea! Every time I look through my old photos’ they bring back floods of memories, some good, some sad and some just plain fun. Thanks for the inspiration.
You have the greatest ideas! I used your old ruler idea to hang a wall of small quilts in my sewing room. All the quilters in the area have been over to ooh and ahh! Wish I could post a picture (it is SO cute), but that doesn’t seem to be possible here. Now I’ll have to start watching the trash for some old window frames…
Totally amazing! What a great inspiration you had when you saw that window… It couldn’t find a more perfect place to be either…. Gives me ideas of my own. ๐
Hi Lisa, Oh my gosh, your picture window is absolutely amazing! I just LOVE it, and I showed it to my son, Vincent, and he thought it was awesome too!! You are so creative. What a beautiful way to display love, joy, and tender moments. Hugs, Jakey
Another neat idea for an old window. I donโt have the space for 1 your size but Iโm sharing this with 2 friends who have long walls. Another idea I saw was placing a landscape quilt behind an old 4 pane window. Now that I could do if I ever get my quilt done. Haha.
Nice job Lisa! Itโs so impressive and some of your photos are ones you have shared with us. Iโm going to try those photo corners. Thank you for sharing so much of yourself & your family. Now you can have them with you while you sew
What a wonderful way to display a capsule of memories. I have two photo walls – one of family (black and white photos) and the other of travels (color photos). I know you will enjoy your photo wall.
Great idea! Wish I had both a picture and a wall to hold it. This would have been perfect in another house. Open plan has its drawbacks. Yours looks wonderful.
Great job of recycling an old window. I have completed a few projects with old windows and always enjoy how they come out. If you get a chance check out my post on repurposing old windows and let me know what you think. http://tool-school.com/2018/02/23/repurpose-old-windows-2/
An absolutely perfect us of the old window, I love everything about it! It was meant to be I believe.
Your picture memories are wonderful, brought tears…… thank you for sharing, it is so inspiring!!
