Today I was up at 4:30am to catch a flight to Vegas…I’m takin Nick on his first flight/mini weekend vacation since his surgery, Vegas is really the only place he likes to go…so when I got up I needed to link up my day 11 post and then proceeded to somehow lose it all…then some divine intervention happend and I somehow got it back…whewww…so I will be posting the next couple of day from Las Vegas! ย I am meeting Vegas Val my machine quilter tomorrow to hang out and the four of us will see a show…
here is a close-up of the right hand side…the other side the numbers go the other direction for left handed cutters…
This is for sure a needful thing….I like being effiecient…and when cutting stems for my wool projects I do not like to cut them one at a time…
It goes like this if you do not have this ruler and only a regular ruler or our 5×15 with 1-3/16″ line on it
Iron fusible to wool needed for stems…
trim up the long edge
find 3/16″ on ruler
place ruler on edge of fusible side of wool
cut
pick up ruler
move stem out of the way
lay ruler back down
find 3/16″ again
Place ruler on edge
cut
repeat…all that again and again and again..until you have as many as needed
Now with this 3/16″ ruler it is like this…
trim up edge
how many stems do we need? 6? line up the edge of the fusible side of the wool with the 6 line on the ruler.
Cut
slide to 5
cut
slide to 4
cut
slide to 3
cut
slide to 2
cut
slide to 1 cut
OOOOHHHH that was SSSSSOOO much faster…
I did this just in case the video wasn’t happening…but…
Hopefully my video will load here…if not, it will be on Facebook under Primitive Gatherings Quilt Shop, we shot it on Thursday and Kali has been working on it and sent it to me here…hopefully, fingers crossed I can load it…HOLY CRAP!!! IT WORKED!!! KALI DID AN AWESOME JOB on this video!!!! I cannot believe how it turned out…now I definately need to work on my performance skills!! I literally am doing cartwheels in my hotel room!!!!
We are running the rulers on special $30 for the pair… and then here are the individual prices!! $12 for the mini reg.$15 and $20 for the long reg. $24 if you purchase them separately. ย Click HEREto go to the rulers for info and ordering.
To enter to win a prize for today please answer this question…What else do you want to see from Primitive Gatherings next year?…We have lots planned (new, videos) but I thought I would open it up to see what you come up with be specific…biting my nails to see what you come up with!!!
One of my goals is to make an all blue quilt specifically something based on delft blues and antique blue transferware. Instead of complimenting white, off white, ecru..could it be shades of the palest blues??? Idea for a new fabric line????
Merry Christmas and safe travels
Iโve been cutting my stems one at a time, time to move up to the next level. I love everything you design, but I have two friends that really want a kit or pattern for the orange/cream tulip quilt. I know if they do it I would too!
I would like to see you do more videos maybe like show on a more consistent basis. You could show what your working on, new fabric lines, the process of picking out fabric for a project or how to use some of the tools you use like the short video you have on this post. Looking forward to anything you come up with this next year.
I would love to see how you organize your sewing studio, your notions, fabrics, your scissors, rulers, thread, etc. I love your quilt storage room/closet !
That is a Tough one!! You do So much except downtime- Lol!! Maybe some more pieced designs, you are So well known for all appliquรฉ & little pieces!! Iโm sure next year will be fabulous as always!! Canโt wait!!
I like all that you do but personally would like to see somemore minis as I have done about all that are in your Mini book.
Enjoy Vegas and your holidays.
More needle punch designs would be cool! I love the diversity of projects, patterns and block-of-the-month offerings you have. Your creativity inspires me!
These rulers are awesome, perfect for cutting all those stems. I would like to see more wools in brighter colors with more designs in the wool, plaids, etc. Thanks!!
Hi Lisa……..I would love to see some chenille (sp?) projects with a tutorial. I know you would come up with some great projects since all your fabrics and patterns are fabulous! Have fun in Vegas.
I would love to see another sew-along similar to Triangle Gatherings from a couple years ago. Oh, wait!!! What am I asking? I haven’t done that one yet! I love the challenge of everything you do.
I would love to see more videos. Even basic ones on working with wool for us beginners. Feelingvthe need for those rulers . Merry Christmas to me and all of you !
Well, I know this wonโt be possible… but a โLisa Sightingโ at AQS Lancaster PA would be like 12 days of Christmas all wrapped up for me! Itโs the one big show I can get to! Iโd love to take a class with you! Oh well, barring that, Iโll have to be content with more videos.
I agree with another person; an affordable beginner project that not only includes the wool but also the fusible that YOU use and the specific threads you use. Everything that one would need. There is a lot of little things one needs and if a person just wants to try it out it would be helpful to have it in one kit. I have a lot of your books, maybe one day I will get to take a class with you!
Love to see your tutorials showing how to do the wool embroidery. Great explanations on how to do the stitches for a novice. Thanks for the challenge of small pieces!
I would love to see more of your patterns for hand towels using some of your block designs, etc. I think the designs would look great in embroidery on towels. A lost art but one friends still enjoy getting –a little homemade gift. Your rulers are wonderful and I own a couple of the different ones.
Having read the previous posts I’m not sure what I would add. I am excited about the new line with the accompanying book I like that idea. II look forward to seeing your booth at Paducah and Madison. Wish they were larger because they are always so crowded. You are one popular gal!
I wish they were larger too, but show booths are expensive…we pay over $5000 for most of them, and that does not count all the other added show expenses like Hotels, food, gas and so on…
Love the videos!!!
I would love to see a video on finishing a table mat, years ago I was able to take your class but canโt remember exactly how you do it.
I would love more stitcheries like โWe Wish You a Merry Christmasโ. I canโt wait to order โThe Pledge of Allegianceโ from Star and Stripe Gatherings!
I love every new project you design. Iโm currently working on the Summer Block of the week. Itโs a lot of work but I love the results. I agree. More videos would be great! I love your thread book. I carry it with me everywhere. Never know when youโre gonna find some new Valdani!
This is my first year for PG 12 Days of Christmas. Iโm still unclear …. must we order daily? Or can we wait until the last day and order everything we want from all 12 Day items and combine shipping? If we wait, how do we place an order on Day 1 to receive the special pricing on everything? These rulers look amazing, thank you! Have fun in Vegas!
Hi Kay…and Welcome to our 12 days…you can order daily…or you can wait til the end…the little we charge for shipping $3.99-$5.99 is minimal.(I think of it as gas in the car)…ALL the deals are good through the end of the year!..But if you wait til the end those orders seem to take a little longer to get because we will run out of some of the items…and will have to re-order, this is not a problem for most people. We have no idea if we are going to sell 10 of something or 200? So that is kinda how it works…
Canโt have too many of your awesome tutorial videos! And I agree with another poster … more plaid and textural wool bundles would be much appreciated!
I would like to see a stitch along using the great tools you offer. It would be great if the stitch along was a kit. Ps. I love videos too!
Also I would love to win. Thanks. Have a great trip.
Love those new rulers. I have your other ruler and am always squinting for that 3/16 line. This is a wonderful gift. Thank you. As for something new…I can’t. Keep up now with your wonderful ideas. You are the best!
I don’t know what more you could add to what you already do?? You do so much!! I do love your videos and look forward to seeing more on anything wool! Just getting into wool and can’t get enough!!!
Would love to see more videos. I always seem to learn something even if it just the littlest thing. Would also love to see another stitch along, these are so enjoyable and you have something to look forward to. Projects are much easier to finish when broken down into smaller parts. Thanks for all of your hard work and sharing your talents with the rest of us!!
Those rulers are brilliant! So-o-o-o-o-o much easier than repeatedly searching for that elusive 3/16″ OR cutting a “clunky” looking 1/4″ strip that’s a titch too wide!! LUV the tutorials! Christmas Blessings to you and all and wishes for a Joy-filled New Year!!!!!!
Love the new rulers! I wish I had them before starting Moon Garden and Twilight Garden (Summer Block of the Week)! For next year, keep up the videos–they are very helpful. I’d also like to learn more about how all of your various wool appliquรฉ projects are quilted.
LOVE all your instructional videos on hand stitches, I refer to them many times. Maybe more videos on your tips for accurate piecing or any other tips for quick cutting, piecing and wool hand work. Keep up the wonderful work.
What I’d love to see from you, Lisa, is your continuing gift of creativity to us, your customers and friends. You have been gifted with a talent that you so freely share. Please continue to share with us! I especially love the quilt alongs! I can always count on you to inspire me to try something new.
You constantly amaze me with all you do! I love your summer bow. I would love to see more flannels that you do because colors are so amazing. They make luscious quilts!!! Maybe more tweed textures
I am so grateful to you and your creative talent. I love your designs! I would love to see more videos on your various hand stitches. Other than that, keep creating and designing for which I am very thankful.
Let me into all those idea binders you have and I’ll pick something out from there! Lol! Or, just bottle up some of that positive energy of yours and sell that – you could make a mint! Love you Lisa – you’re the Best!๐
Love all your prints …. except the American ones … Iโm from Canada ๐คช, so those of its donโt work very well for me. Keep up the designing … love it all! We just got back from Vegas and were 20 floors lower than you …. my photos look just like yours ….. awesome rooms and the view is amazing. Enjoy your trip!
I would like to see videos on YouTube on how you embroider your Wool Appliquรฉ. Your stitching is beautiful. Also a video on Big Stitch quilting. There are so many of us that feel like weโre still newbies.
Thanks Healthy and Happy Holidays!
Debby ๐
I would like to see.more non-wool items. I love your fabric lines and would like to see more quilts. Your fabrics are so warm and cozy and like your colorings.
Gee let me think…no I think you have it all, all that I want in a quilt shop! No, I thought of something, I would love a trip to your store th spend a few days shopping then running to the post office to mail all my treasures home. Merry Christmas to all of you. Thanks for all you do.
I would love videos on how to use the needle treader on my Juki. Also address some other issues such as skipping stitches, breaking thread. A how to fix what I’m doing wrong, is it the thread? The needle, tension… you Know common problems we all might have here or there.
Small kits that include pattern, thread and fabric, including backing. Another thing that I would like to see are precut complete kit options. Some of the people I see on facebook talk about cutting machines. I have looked into them and find them to be pricey and some you need to use with your computer. I am not interested in spending my stitching time figuring out how to do that, AND, I don’t have storage space for all the toys that make stitching/cutting/tracing easier. STORAGE space being the most important thing.
Thanks for sharing so much with us. You are the key to lots of us being inspired and in “the stitch”.
I think mire videos would be great. Honestly, I canโt see how you could possibly do more! You already set the bar pretty high! Have a great time in Las Vegas!
I love video tutorials. I know they take time, but I find them so helpful. I have not done a lot of wool applique so any beginner’s basic instruction videos (cutting, simple stitches, finishing a project, etc.) would be especially appreciated.
Great video! Thanks for showing how to use this ruler and to make great stems. I would love to see more video instruction as well. Your skills are wonderful!
I can’t think of anything specific, you are so creative and have such wonderful designs that I love everything you do and am amazed at your work and attention to details. Your videos are so helpful. Have a wonderful vacation.
Wow, that ruler is amazing, that has to be a must have for the future. Iโd like to see some more wool designs that also incorporate some EPP if possible. Would like to combine two passion together.
Your videos are very helpful. You already cover many areas of the craft with so much creativity. Thank you for all you do. Perhaps a mystery quilt project.
A line for Autumn might be fun. I know you did pumpkins and crows in the past but maybe a few more things along that line -scarecrows, gourds, haystacks etc.
I really have enjoyed making things with your fabric line, Needle & Thread Gatherings. I have been doing some fussy cutting around the spools and needles and that has been fun.
Lisa, you are one of the most creative women I have ever known. .And your wonderful willingness to share is absolutely brilliant. I learn from everything that you write or do in your videos ,. It is your willingness to share that keeps me coming back for more. I ove all of your projects and your books and your patterns.
Iโve love to see an area at the CA store where you post Whats Newโ classes, products, BOM, BOW, all things new – When I go the CA store, there is a board posted behind the register, so to see what is listed, I have to stand in the way of other customers / cashiers while they ring the purchases, and I feel like I am in the way (because I am) . I often miss out on a new class or new pattern / BOM simply because I do not see it posted. Picking up orders at the store is a.great way to get me into the store, but once I am there I do not see โwhats new:! Your staff there is always very helpful.
I love your designs but I also love really bright colors. I would like to see a design that uses those bright colors. I mean colors like lime green, fuchsia, royal blue, yellow, magenta.
I would love to see movie videos available. I learn best with not only words explaining a process but actually seeing it – sometimes several times. Thanks for the great items you offer.
So difficult to think of something new but I always love a new classic Christmas quilt..or something along a forget me not theme to celebrate memories of loved ones.
Have a great holiday! I am looking forward to getting these rulers at least the long one. Next year, I am looking forward to seeing designs with your new line of black & light colors.
I’d like you to design some flannels with busier prints to use on the back of quilts. Love the PG flannels, especially for backs, but need something that will hide my longarm mistakes a little better. Lol๐
How about pre cut / fused geranium petals. I have several of your patterns with geraniums on them but hesitate to start because of making all those little petals. I know you can do this since I recently bought your “Summer Welcome Banner” with the petals pre cut / fused. How about offering them in sheets instead of as part of a kit – I can cut / fuse all other pieces in a design without them being precut. Also, would like to see other wool backgrounds other than black – I know the colors stand out nicely against black but black is so depressing. I recently used lighter wool for spring candle mat backgrounds instead of the black the pattern showed. The light blue and pale green were perfect for my umbrellas and tulips. Have a great get away in Vegas!
I love to look of the clay pots in your patterns – so more of those. Plus, if you could offer pre-cut wool elements (such as the small flower petals). My hands aren’t as dexterous as they used to be!
Videos of your studio and storage ideas… how do you store your rulers yet keep them handy, what about wool scraps-too small to put on the shelf but too big to throw out? Thanks for the fun!
Hmmmm….I am thinking about how you said you would be doing less traveling. So I am thinking how about a weekly online video class, with live video help sessions interspersed throughout. Perhaps a similar format to what Kari Shell does with her Tech Know Quilters online classes for EQ…just not as many days per week. AND of course we will be needing more updates on those two cutie patootie grandsons you’ve been blessed with!
Please come teach at Road to California again! How about another beautiful quilt journal featuring more of your beautiful quilts? I love the format where you don’t have dates. I just pick mine up whenever I have the time or am feeling the need. It actually helps keep me organized – as much as that is possible. Keep up the good work!
I haven’t done much wool applique, but would like to start doing more. Would like to see more instructions on doing the wool applique both by hand & machine. Also another Christmas book!
I would love to see more cute pillows and bowl filler patterns/kits that are for holidays/seasons other than Christmas. The father and son reindeer are adorable and make me smile every time I look at it. Thanks a bunch!
Love these1!! As for the upcoming year, I would love to see a video or instruction on how to do hand quilting on a small project. For instance, I have a smaller tabletopper and I need it quilted. I don;t have time to send it out to a quilter, so I am soing it by hand really quick.I am confused on how to draw the pattern/design to stich on the topper for the hand quilting and then how to hand quilt so my tie threads don’t show on the bottom. ๐
I like everything you do, so I cannot think of anything new, maybe more of the old. I TRULY enjoyed the triangle gathering, it kept me in my sewing room on a regular basis, and sometimes I let life keep me out. I would love another sewalong
Love what you do! I’m working on Midnight Garden at the moment and would have loved to have your new rulers for the stems. Thanks for inventing them! I would love to see instructional videos on how you do your beautiful stitches on your wool, as well as how to’s on the basics of wool applique. But going back over the comments I saw somebody say that she refers to your instructional videos all the time. How do I find those? I didn’t see a link on the PG website, and my searchs on YouTube haven’t gleaned much. I’d appreciate any info.
I would like to see more video. If you did not have to travel mabe you could do a weekly or monthly block of a month with us all. It would be so much fun working with you. I enjoy following you!
This is a hard question. I can’t keep up with what’s already there, so adding new will only make it harder for me! But, along with everyone else, I love your videos and would love to see more of them. I also liked your sew-along (triangle gatherings) and would like to see another one.
Glad you and your hubby are able to get away for a few days, for a much deserved short vacation. I would like a book and video of how to’s on the embroidery stitches you use in your projects. They are such a beautiful addition to the felted wool using the perle cotton.
This would be a wonderful additions to the other books from Primitive Gatherings in my “library.”
I really NEED a video on the feather stitch….I have a TBI and the part of my brain that used to work by photos alone now needs to see it being done! It took me almost 5 years to be able to quilt again and now I am loving wool appliquรฉ!
I would like you to design and kit four wool appliquรฉ color appropriate seasonal table toppers, not lap size but squares about 36-40โ wide. Love all that you do and hopefully this isnโt something youโve done before. Did you get your motorcycle endorsement and a bike, we talked about this on the cruise if you remember?
You have so many wonderful Spring wool designs. I would like to see a Spring event in the same spirit of the Christmas event. Winters are so long here in the upper mid-west a countdown to the first day of Spring would be something to look forward to.
I’m a visual learner so the videos showing how to do the colonial knot, the stem stitch, etc have been mist helpful. I would like more videos on various stitches. I also love the SAL that you do. Merry Christmas, good luck in Vegas!
I love all of your work and have participated in many of the sew alongs but my favorite was the tenth anniversary one;) you ended up with an awesome quilt and it was easy to keep up with! But keep doing what you do… we all love it๐
I want to applaud the idea of pre-cut kits for smaller projects. I am recovering from a stroke and cutting accurately remains difficult for me, although thankfully, I can still hand sew and also cross stitch on 40-count linen. Thanks for considering pre-cuts!
I love the videos. I’m new to wool work and your video tutorials will be a tremendous help with my confidence. Thank you for working so hard to help us out here!
Hi Lisa, hope you & Nick are having fun in Vegas, nice pics! I liked your ruler video too. Next year… maybe some retro quilt designs… I love the 1940โs table cloths with blue, red, and yellow fruit, and sometimes turquoise… I also enjoy Art Deco from the 1920โs. Hugs, Jakey
I agree with the others….you will come up with great ideas. A couple of things that would be helpful to me would be how to decide how to finish/quilt it and lessons on embroidery stitches. Thanks! Jmh
More Videos. Your videos are amazing and I have learned so much from them. Thank you so much for taking time out of your busy schedules to make those videos for those of us that need all the extra help we can get.
That’s a really tough question, because I love so much of what you do and there are so many things on my “want to do” list. Hmmm…maybe something with Snowmen?
I have been a fan of your work since I started doing wool applique many years ago. I always enjoy working on your patterns and Primitive Gatherings is my go to place for patterns and supplies. I am enjoying your video’s as well.
I feel like you are really great about giving us a good balance, I always enjoy when you share your personal life with us, I love seeing your new home, your grandchildren, and especially your baking with โlittle manโ I love everything you share with us about quilting and wool projects, upcoming new releases and especially the โneedful thingsโ every year. Adding videos will be a very nice addition. I appreciate everything you do.
Iโm new to working with wool so videos on that are helpful. Havenโt seen the โlittle manโ in awhile and love seeing pictures of him at your house. Itโs always nice to hear how your hubby is doing and what you are all up to too. Merry Christmas
I have a small all wool pincushion that I purchased from your shop a while ago. It was made with strips of wool.
I would love a kit for make one. I think someone made them to sell at your store. I wish i had purchased more than one. It fits on the top of my sewing machine.
I always love your wool applique patterns. Since I also do rug hooking, I’d LOVE to win this long ruler!
Honestly, I love all wool and punch needle patterns.
I too would like lighter backgrounds, more creams, less tans in the fabric lines. Besides that, it would be nice to see some patterns with different kinds of stars. I haven’t ever done wool applique and would like a nice small kit of something that is for a beginner, with lots of instructions. That’s 3 different things which I could probably find today if I looked hard on your site, but it was what popped into my head. Thank you.
I have several of your rulers and love them! Everything you design and make is wonderful! I love minis so more patterns maybe? You know, maybe you can design them between 2am-4am, hehe. I know you are always so busy!!
