Here it is…another awesome Moda designer compilation book!
16 Quilt projects in this baby…Compiled by our leader Lissa Alexander.
The book is made up of quilts using Cake Mix papers…kind of like my triangle papers but these may have some squares and such…not just Half Square Triangles…So this means that they are super accurate! ย You can see by the cover that there are lots of uses for different fabrics from your collections or your 10″ Layer cakes or 5″ Charm packs. ย I know most of you have some of those just sitting pretty on the shelf…now is the time to get them made into a quilt(s)!
Here is the list of the designers…does your favorite designer(s) have a quilt in this one?
Here is our quilt in the book..STORMY DAY….We loved using anything we had that was blue, cream, grey and that little cheddar one, so it’s a mix of Primitive Gatherings lines…
Here’s how this one went…I picked the fabrics designed the quilt…Amy made the all the HSTs and I was supposed to help her but she had it done before I could….so she made the quilt in a snap using the Cake Mix papers…Maggie Honeyman’s (@sewmaggi) quilted it so beautiful…and looks it is so lovely on a bed…You could also make a smaller version by using smaller HSTs…hmmmm great idea!
Just 4 big pieced HST Xs make this quilt a stunner!
The background grey is this Bella Solidย ย At this time I do not know how much of it you would need, but it a Bella (priced reasonable) and its a beautiful grey…so buy 6 yds…you’ll probably have enough for pillow cases too!
If I had to pic another favorite from the book I’d pick this one…can you guess who’s it is??? ย Carrie Nelson’s for sure!!!
Ok…it was hard to pick just one…so… there is something so sweet about this one to…I know this is Me & My Sister fabrics…I love the the design…maybe I love churn dashes -don’t ya think?
So…does anyone want to win this book? ย Please leave a comment and let me know how many of these moda compilation books you already own? ย If you do not own any…please tell me why not? ย I will pick three winners of the Mix it UP book and one of those winners will receive a fabric something from me that will add in to the making of our quilt in the Mix it up book..

Thanks again for hanging around here right up til the end….I truly love everyone of these books…Martingale published a great book….so it’s really a no brainer…put them on your list and buy them as you can…They also look really good on the shelf together…
They all look amazing, and I donโt own a single one! Always working on something specific for OTHER people, so I donโt get to make anything really fun just for me. Would love to try yours or the big churn dash!
i don’t have any of these books. i have seriously thought of buying all in a row and all in a row again but haven’t yet. i haven’t seen some of the books featured. all look awesome!
I have 3 of these books. They give you a good mix of designers and patterns. Fat quarters are my favorite pre-cut. They can yield a large assortment of sizes for piecing and if you buy a bundle, they are pre-matched! As always, your quilt in this new book is my favorite, can’t go wrong with gray and blue!
WOW! I love em! I have used the papers and find them to be so accurate. You gals are so busy and creative. Looking forward to start collecting the books and making more beautiful quilts!
I have seen some of these books & glanced through 1 or 2 of them but fabric has taken my dollars. Think Iโll need to put them on my Christmas list. Through the various Moda Sew Along programs I have met the more contemporary designers & looking at the book covers I can usually pick out who did what. It has been fat quarters that I use in a lot of projects but as fabric prices have increased I have started buying 1/4 yard cuts. A 1/4 yard cut is close to a fat quarter cost & I get 2 fat quarters. So extra yardage to use. But I do have some charms & mini charms sitting around. Thanks for the chance to win the newest book.
Sadly I donโt own any of these books! Why? Probably because my LQS doesnโt carry them and since I have several UFOโs I have a hard time buying more books to tease me๐
I am a BIG fan of Moda but unfortunately don’t own any of these books. This would be a great opportunity to get started. It looks like fun using so many of the designers throughout the books. Please pick me!
I have two more UFOโs to finish, all they need is borders and to be taken to the quilter, then I am โfreeโ to begin new projects. And boy, are there projects galore in this book. You ladies have such creative genius. I am wowed!!!
I Love Love these books. I own 3 of the books. The quilts are so unique. I am a precut nut. Such an easy way to own lots of fabrics when storage is minimal. I could not pick a favorite. It could be the new book if I win.
What wonderful books..and I dont have a one! A fact I will be changing shortly..I just have to decide which to order 1st . We have had many quilt shops close where I live…I now have to travel a bit to fondle fabric, so dont get a chance to browse books often. Eventually I will have several of these…starting with which one…? I cant decide
I have Merry Makers, Mini Charm Quilts, and All in a Row Again! I love these books cause I love all the designers! I didnโt realize there were so many…Iโd better get busy!
For the past two years my husband and I were slowly cleaning, sorting, and fixing up our mini ranch to sell. I recently moved into the city, have my sewing room set up and am sewing again, so…no I havenโt bought anything new in a very long time, and….yes I have a stash of precuts that need to be used. Papers to be used on precuts, how ingenious. Thank you for always being so generous with your give always.
I do not own any of these books. I did not realize there were so many books offered. Been buying more online and need to look through them. Going to have to decide which one to start with. Have never used the papers but sounds fun and accurate. Love the stormy day quilt. Thank you for opportunity.
I have all of them! Love these books! The patterns are great, and I also love that part of the proceeds from each book goes to a terrific charity- Moda rocks๐๐ป
Lisa, you really manage to show and teach us about everything!! I do enjoy the contact with you from your fabulous posts. Keep โme coming! I may have to try the churn dashes!!
Love your pattern and this new book- plan on getting one as I gave all the other moda books and have done quilts from each- Thanks to all the designers- keep thinking of more!!!
I only own one other book, I donโt get out much! My local quilt shop does NOt Cary Moda, imagine that! I love it when talents are challenged, we all have a bit of competition in us, they style of the artists really pops in this book, thank you for sharing!
Oh me! Oh my:) so many choices to make! I need to look at everything again before I make a decision on what I want (NOT need!) Just have to read and think some. Thanks for sharing all the wonderful book info & especially the completed quilts.
Oh my, I really like your quilt. I especially like the little bit of cheddar you included. I own the Mini Marvels book and made one little quilt, which turned out so cute. Thanks for a chance.
Hi Lisa. I have Mini Charms, Lucky Charms & Mini Marvels. Didn’t realize that some of the other books were available.
Looks like I need to add to my library!
I have both row books and the charm book, but alas have fallen behind. Have worked with cake mix papers before and love them, so eagerly anticipating this edition!
Love your quilt Lisa. I do not own any of the Moda compilation books. Not sure how that happened, I love quilt books. Especially surprised I donโt have the scraps made easy one. The churndash block is my favorite. I will have to add this new book to my wishlist.
I have 3 books already! Can’t wait to add this new one to my collection!!! Thank you to all the Moda designers for your inspiration, knowledge, and love of quilting!
I love your work! I don’t own any of these books yet but am very interested in owning some of them due to your introducing me to them via your blog. I haven’t tried the papers either and find that fascinating as well.
I sadly have none & just was opened up to your creative world recently. I do need to change the lack of All Star books, maybe with this one or a scrappy one if I had to pick. Thanks for all the work you do, it is AMAZING!
I have on a roll and in a row….love both of them…i have 2 cake mixes but have been afraid to tackle them yet…i think this book. Will give me the push i need….love your design…
I love the layer cake recipes, I made my niece a queen size quilt using the recipes. It turned out beautiful. I wanted just 2 colors so I cut my own layer cakes. Wish I could post the picture but donโt know how!
I do not own any of these books, but I would love this one. I rarely buy books so they are a splurge for sure. I made two Blockheads quilt this year so that kept me busy.
Oh ~~~~~ so glad I am not then only one who doesn’t own a Moda book, but it must be time to start as today is my daughter’s birthday (LOL 29 again and marching to the BIG 50) This surely is the day I need to start to make a special something for her!
I don’t have any of the books but I do have cake mix & cupcake mix papers that have been waiting to be used. We had a house built last year and life has been so crazy & hectic that I’m just getting my sewing room together & haven’t been ready to sew anything in over a year….sad ๐ Hopefully it won’t be long now til I can get back to it!
I own Mini Charms and Merry Makers. I made your quilt in Mini Charms without triangle papers. Yes, I lost some points, but I learned my lesson! Quilt books are just like novels. So many books, too little time!
After reading this post, I am loving this book — on my list for sure of things I would like to make in it! I don’t have any of these compilation books, this one surely looks like a great one to get.
I’d have to check my library but I know I have at least a few of these books. I’ve used the Cake Mix and Cupcake Mix papers in the past. Would love to make a few of these quilts.
I have three of these books and would love to add this one to my library. Maybe I would use some of the layer cakes and papers that I already have. Always hoping …
I am new to sewing and quilting in the last two years. I just discovered I like sewing at 64! These books look like fun. I don’t have any yet, but that will be changing soon! I have made 30 quilts in the last two years.
Sad to say, I donโt own a single one of these books, although Iโd like to. Guilt wonโt let me buy them- I have too many UFOโs staring at me to feel able to add to the mix!
I don’t own any of these books either, not that I don’t want to. Especially the miniatures books. I also would love to have this latest book. I too love your quilt and I love blues!
I have 4 of the books and love projects in each one. Your Mix It quilt is beautiful!! This book is on my list for purchase soon. clara-chandler@att.net
Hello, I don’t own any of these books. I have so many other books that I purchased more than 10 or 20 years ago and I seem to use patterns from those or simple patterns I get from tutorials on quilt blogs. I am 70 years old and when I was 30 I made really complex quilts. Now that I’m 70 I make fairly simple quilts. I used to think that when I retired I would do the opposite—make complex quilts with lots of tiny pieces, but that hasn’t happened. I guess I’m more impatient now—not sure what the reason. In any event, I’d be thrilled if I won this one.
I think I own one of the books. Only reason I donโt own more is because I spend my money on fabrics! My favorite pre-cuts are fat quarters, jelly rolls and most recently, layer cakes.
Gosh Lisa… I donโt own ANY of these All Stars books yet!! What is WRONG with me???!!! I do have โOn a Rollโ on my bday list tho! And I would like to get โLucky Charm Quiltsโ too, as I make a lot of baby quilts for the NICU. I have used the Cake Mix papers… they are brilliant!! My favorite precut is the fat-eigth! Itโs a bit less expensive than the fat-quarter when you buy bundles, and itโs just enough to make a NICU quilt without a lot of leftovers. My second fav precut is probably the layer cake! It too is really versatile! Thanks for highlighting this book, Lisa! It looks like a good one!!! Your quilt is beautiful!!
These books are very interesting. Don’t have a one of them – don’t know why. The minis are the most interesting to me since they finish quickly and I can do more of them. I also love paper piecing – if that is what the cake mix is all about.
Hi Lisa, I actually donโt own one of the Moda books. I think itโs because Iโve not seen them in the quilt shops I visit. This one though, I would seriously consider purchasing. I like the variety of designers and projects offered. I enjoy working on your wool projects too๐
I own Scraps Made Simple. I want to thank you for this post because I had forgotten that I had this book along w/half of the fabric cut for the very first quilt in it called: Old School by Carrie Nelson. Therefore I have another UFO to tackle w/only 1800+ HST’s. GOODY! All I can say is getter done, so I can move on to your quilt called: Flight Path w/only 800 or so half square triangles. Its a great book, happy to revisit it.
I do not have any Moda books. I just recently learned about these and seen a quilt from the Moda blocks of the month. Donโt know how I could be so out of the know.
I have the all in a row again book, but itโs currently loaned out to my best friend. Iโve looked at all of these books I would love to own all of them! That sounds greedy doesnโt it?!? Thanks for your generous getaway opportunity. I really enjoy your blog.
I would like to win this book. I do not own any of the books because I have been so busy with work over the years. I recently retired and one of my long term wishes has been to start quilting. This would be helpful!
I don’t have any of these books, but I should!! All these books should be on my shelf! Maybe I’ll just win one and that will be me started on buying more! I’ve used triangle papers before but not the cake mix and cupcake mix papers. Would love to try them.
Hi. I have the 2 All in a Row books …… the first one I purchased and the 2nd I got at my guilds free swap table. I couldnโt believe it when I saw it there, I was thrilled. This new book looks awesome, and I LOVE CHURN DASHES too ……
I donโt have any of the books but have done the Moda Blockheads. Love all the designers that participate in these books Loving your newest book to Lisa. Spent last night reading it before bed.
Thank you so much for sharing the info on these great books. I have one of them and now think I need to add all to my collection. I, too, love everything you design and all the wonderful tips and pictures you share.
I can’t wait to see you in Bloomington-Normal in December. If possible, please bring these books for our members to see and purchase. I hope you bring a SUV filled with Primitive Gatherings items to sell to our members.
What a great looking book! I love using your triangle papers and Carrieโs Cake Mixes. I donโt have any of Lissaโs books. I went to purchase one of the early compilation books but the reviews were very negative regarding many errors. I wasnโt interested in mini projects or rows, but this one looks like a must buy! Love your fabric choices and Carrieโs quilt is FAB!
I have the first Row book and the Mini Charms book. I don’t think I’ve seen the others. Would love to have Mix It Up because I have tons of 1/2 square triangles I could use up on your pattern!!
I have 2 of the books so far and I love them. I would love to win a copy of the new book and make some more quilts! I love the one you designed Lisa! It is beautiful!
As a scrappy quilter, I am ashamed to say that I have none of them. I have looked at them several times but then the guilt of long list of projects in the sewing room makes me put them back on the shelf. But to see the quilts here, Wow! I may have to rethink it……..
Love the new book. I really would like to get this book. I started doing leaders and enders projects using my scraps and I’m almost ready to tackle a new project with all of my half square triangles from my previous two quilts. I don’t own any of the previous books, but there is always a first time to start…
Unfortunately, I don’t have any of these wonderful books. (how sad) I have finally retired and have been going thru all my fabrics and cutting them to prepare for scrap quilting. I would love to win this book from you.

I,m sorry Lisa, I had a rough two years! I don’t have any. I had an amputation of my left leg and I have been trying to get my mojo back to sewing and I would love to see how the 10″ papers work but sometimes life gets in the way and you feel sorry for yourself. Your throat winds up in your stomach and there goes everything out the window. But I love your “everything”! Your dog, your house, your grandson, your quilt fabric, your ideas. I could go on and on. But I have to tell you my leg hurts. No matter how much you may see me smile, it hurts! One day I hope to get my mojo back!
Carol…thanks for confiding in us to tell us what is going on…We all sometimes lose our MOJO! Do not think you are alone…you are brave to tell us you are hurting…losing a leg is HUGE to deal with…but my simple advice is this…we only have one life…we can let it get the best of us…or we can make the best of it…please remember that most people only show you on social media the โgood thingsโ…the โgood lifeโ …and it looks perfect doesnโt it??? But real life is NOT so…I could tell you 6 things in my life right now that really โsuckโ…and these are not little things…but they are only things…and it will be ok…we really are not in control…and I guess how we deal with lifeโs troubles is the test…to be grateful in spite of what is thrown in our direction…I am thinking about you and sending my mojo to help you get yours back…sewing really does mend the soul…just move that needle a little bit today…whether itโs by hand or on your machine…just a little…

I just ordered my first book. I am not sure why I haven’t ordered any before. I just I was just too busy working on wool! i love the Christmas ideas one.
I love looking at all these books and I’ve almost bought a few of them! Especially the Charm and the Scrap. Love this new one as well. I especially like the large churn dash quilt.
I’ve never seen these books before. They look awesome and I’m going to check them out further. I just discovered your blog and looking forward to reading it more!
I own a couple of Moda books, none of the current ones though. As some other said, it seems the fabric gets the dollars first. One thing that makes me back off buying a book is if it requires (strongly suggests?) purchasing items that may not exist in 5-10-20 years. Yes, it can take me that long between book or pattern purchase and for-reals cutting and sewing it up. I guess if I were truly motivated and those items were no longer available, I could make my own papers and rulers… maybe?
