I hope everyone is enjoying the third round of Block Heads…It is so much fun…just enjoy it…read all you can and know your skill set…remember a lot of us have been stitching for 20 or more years…and the more you sew the more you will know and learn…you have to not get discouraged and except what you can do…if you cut off a point…is it the end of the world? No… it is not…but the point is you are learning and being social and making something with your own hands…
I am sorry I only did the 4″ size…if you can’t figure it out if you are doing the other sizes let me know…and I can provide them if there is any interest…but try to figure it out…that is a good lesson for you!
Update! Here you go every block size cutting instructions!
I will see some of you in the California store next week…can’t wait! All for now!

Thanks Lisa, I know I need to improve my applique skills and when you are trying to keep up with a few projects (not running a business like you), I sure appreciate the alternate block. Yes, it is good practice to do a little math from time to time and this isn’t a head scratcher. lol Thank You again
Such a cute block Lisa!! Thank you! I think I’ll try enlarging the diagram to a 6.5” size and paper piece!! Haven’t done that in awhile… will be fun to try it!!
No you do not multiply anything…you figure out what the fished size of each unit is…the add seam allowances or the formula for that particular unit…say you HSTs need to be 1 1/2”…. you would the add 7/8” to this measurement because that is the formula to figure out HSTs…so you need 2 -2 3/8” squares cut in half twice sewn together to make the HSTs
I love the way you presented you thoughts. So well done, spot on, and respectful!! Love that you want us to learn and to try to figure it out ourselves. Love that you gave the formula not the answer. LOVE you blocks and blog, Thank you for all the time and effort you have put in to this. None of us can really understand all you have to do. SO a big thank you!!!
Thank you for the alternate pieced block. Really didn’t want any appliqué in mine,
I cut my half square triangle squares to make the 6” block the 2 3/8 x 2 3/8 and they finished 2”. Think they should be cut at 2 7/8, to finish 2 1/2 to match up with the rectangles.
Thank you! I chickened out on 4” blocks and am making 6s and 8s (a couple of quilts). Doing every block on offer — great way to learn new techniques and make BIIIIIIIIIG quilts. Love this block… just my style. Next year (hopefully, y’all will do it again), 4” blocks! Really appreciate the work that all of you put into these amazing quilt-alongs; you’re giving all of us a fantastic gift. This is my favorite 2020 project so far — and I’m making a bunch of Urban Farmhouse and Indigo Gatherings quilts, all of which are challenging and fun, so you know Block Heads 3 must be fabulous! Oh, and for your consideration… maybe do another holiday collection sometime soon? Still making projects with Christmas Gatherings and Little Seasonal Gatherings, but I’m nearing the end of my stash 🤭
Love this block and the challenge of sewing it!!! Thank you to all the Designers and everyone who helps orchestrate Moda Blockhead #3 for us all. I am currently recovering from total ankle replacement and unable to walk. I am chomping at the bit for the day that I am healed enought to start making my blocks and join you all in this educational and fun experience!! <3
