Day 6- Needful Things- Precision Mats, Iron off Iron Cleaner & Small Wool Pressing Mat
Precision Mats- these mats are perfect for helping layout fusible web pieces to the exact placement of the pattern…the pattern can be easily seen through the mat. This allows you to place and then pick up the whole fused layout out of the applique piece and transfer it to the background. Where then it can be pressed with lots of steam.
Here is a video from the manufacturer on how to use them…I made one but the sound did not work…uggghh….so CLICK HERE TO VIEW THE VIDEO.
We have both sizes, but to me, there is only one I would buy and that is the larger one…This way you can do a much larger piece and you can always to any small shape…I sometimes have huge applique blocks.

Our Wool Ironing Mat is a favorite and we use them all the time….but unfortunately, we only have the small in stock…so keep this in mind for the future and put them in your wish list. Primitive Gatherings has an everyday decent price on these mats, so anytime you order the price will be better than anyone one out there.
Our sizes are:
20″x 58″ Large fits big board ironing boards. $120
I have been eyeing the precision mats since is saw Dianne Ballay’s video! Thank you for including them in your needful things! I just had to get both sizes.
I have the wool pressing mat and love it and I also have the precision mat but haven’t taken the time to figure out how to use it. Will have to get the iron cleaner.
We LOVE the Precision Mat!! No more fusible web on the iron, it slides right off the mat! Items easily fused like normal. I bought one for myself & a friend this year before I knew you had them.
All great items! Don’t know how I ever pressed seams before the wool mats came along. The applique pressing mat looks awesome. Need to buy one of those.
I have the things you have listed today. I agree they are needful things. Someday I’m going to get that super large mat for my ironing board. BTW I received my order today, thanks so much. The note apologizing for the back ordered items was nice—maybe we will be returning to normal operations soon. What a headache it must be for you.
i also have all of the items you’re featuring today! Looking forward to a larger ironing surface so I can have a larger wool mat … in the meantime I have 4 smaller ones!
I love these wool mats! I have the large one and a smaller one too. I do a lot of small, precision piecing and these mats are a must for getting a nice flat block
I watched the video about the pressing mat, and I decided, I can’t live without it. Especially doing all the wool applique I watch you do, and I want to do. Thanks, it is on my list!!
Is there a way to get a previous day’s needful item ? I didn’t get to look at yesterday’s (day 6) item, but would like to order when I click on it, I get today’s item. Thank you. Lisa Hartwig
I love this mat and agree just go for the large unless you are trying to use on top of a light box before you remove to press (if you do a lot of collage or needle turn appliqué) I have been able to do that, the mat grips the fabric well enough. I also recommend keeping the package it comes in to store it. I keep a wool pad on my big board and next to my machine with my small travel iron. These may seem like “luxuries” but you will be very happy with both.
I LOVE my wool pressing mat. After I used a friends at a retreat I just HAD to have one. I do need to splurge and get a bigger one, maybe for my birthday.
I love my wool pressing mat. I have two different sizes and use them all the time. I may have to invest in a big one! I have an old appliqué pressing sheet but I love the new ones you have. That will be going into my cart!
I have never seen these precision mats. What an excellent idea and would have been really helpful for my last projects I was struggling with the placement. Definitely a must have.
Wool pressing mats are awesome! I have a small one that I always use when pressing blocks. I would like to get a much larger one at some later time. The precision mat looks like a very needful item. And of course, iron cleaner is always useful to have plenty of it on hand.
