Hey Blockheads! Ready for BH4 – Block 2? “Cooee“ was created by Jenelle Kent of Pieces to Treasure in MacMasters Beach, Australia. Jenelle is a former school teacher gone patchwork instructor, who eventually started a business based on her passions. Her shop, Pieces to Treasure focuses on a variety of projects including quilts, bags, table runners, pillows, and sewing accessories. On top of that, she is also a successful toweling fabric designer for Moda!
Jenelle named Block 2, “Cooee“ after a loud and shrill Australian shout that’s meant to attract attention. She explained, “You should, “Cooee“ when you’re in the Australian bush because the sound travels and echoes. It’s very helpful if you’re lost because if you are ‘within cooee,’ then you’re within earshot!” This beautiful geometric design certainly does demand attention! I think the name fits nicely.
Are you ready to get started on Block 2? You can find the pattern and full instructions for “Cooee“ on Jenelle‘s blog!
There is much to do now that I’m home – including getting ready for my Trunk Show on Corey Yoder’s new fabric line, “Beautiful Day,” which will be airing this coming Thursday at 1:00 PM CST on our YouTube LIVE show, “Stitch with Lisa Bongean.” If you’re not familiar with Corey, she is a mom of two who is also an accomplished fashion designer with an original focus on appliquéd children’s clothing. As time progressed she eventually also evolved into quilt design, and is now equally following the footsteps of both her Mom and Dad’s side of the family – each of which includes many quilt makers. Corey is well known for her pattern shop, Coriander Quilts where she shows off her modern twist on traditional quilt block designs. In addition, not only is she is a regular contributor to quilt magazines and books, she is also the author of her own book, “Playful Petals.”
This book features 8 appliqué projects that incorporate simple piecing techniques with straightforward appliqué. These techniques eliminate the need for reverse templates, additional seam allowances, and more time consuming methods. Easy-to-follow visual instructions make it a great pick for anyone who wants to learn fusible appliqué techniques! “Playful Petals“ is also an excellent choice for anyone who likes to buy pre-cuts without a specific project in mind. The techniques in this informative book are well suited for stitchers of all levels! If you’d like your own copy of “Playful Petals“ you can pick one up by hitting the link below!
Corey will be joining me via LIVE this Thursday on “Stitch with Lisa Bongean“ as we tour through her new Moda collection, “Beautiful Day.” Don’t miss it! It’s easy to hop online and join us – all you have to do is hit the link below! While you’re watching, don’t forget to “like” and comment during the LIVE show for a chance to win a prize! Are you a Corey Yoder fan? What’s your favorite Corey Yoder design or project? How’s your progress on BH4 coming along??? Let me know, I always love to know what’s happening out there! I will see you all soon. ~Lisa
I have fabric selected and starched for Blockheads, but will not allow myself to start until I finish up my bigger project of new living room curtains. Hopefully, I will find enough time to finish them in the next day or two. And I love all things Corey Yoder!!!
