Did someone say cake!? Block 3 of MBH4 is deliciously called, “Kouign Amann,“ (pronounced, “queen a-mahn) after a sweet multi-layered Breton cake, originally made with bread dough in the early 1860’s. These delectable desserts contain several levels of butter and sugar, similar to a puff pastry with a few less layers. Once finished, “Kouign Amann” appears similar to a muffin-shaped, caramelized croissant. Um… Seriously? I’ll take TWO please!
MBH4 – Block 3 “Kouign Amann,“ was designed by Laurie Simpson of Minick & Simpson out of Michigan. Though not as enticing to the taste buds as an actual “Kouign Amann,“ this block is still just as much fun to make! Laurie and her sister Polly Minick have both loved textiles since childhood. They began collaborating over 20 years ago, making Americana rugs and quilts intended for home décor. The success of their unique, folk art style lead them to writing books, teaching, and designing fabric for Moda… which, of course eventually brought us here – MBH4 – Block 3! I’m really excited about this Quilt-Along so I’ve been right on track with keeping up with the schedule and completing the blocks as they release. Obviously, I can’t wait to see the finished product! For this block I used a combination of floral and geometric prints on white, gray, and black fabrics. I love the “spikes” I see when I look at this design. When I stare directly at it, reminds me a little bit of the face on a sunflower. What do you think?
I hope you’re finding time to escape the craziness of everyday life to get some stitching in! I am finally getting back into the normal groove of things after my vacation with Jace. We had a ton of fun and I’d do it again in a heartbeat… but as I mentioned, chasing a couple of young boys around Disney for a week is no joke. I don’t care what anybody says – needing a, “vacation from vacation” is really a thing!
Since I’ve been back, the girls and I continue to plan non-stop for things to come here at Primitive Gatherings. We’re hard at work on new pattern designs, incoming fabric lines, upcoming retreats, workshops, and clubs, and a bunch of other fun stuff! Oh! And I hope you got a chance to catch, “Shop Talk with Shelley“ this morning on my YouTube Channel. Shelley and Jess covered a lot of important information including our latest shop announcements, spring shop hours, details on my “O Say Can You Sew” Mystery Quilt-Along, hot products, and more! If you missed it you can always watch the replay by hitting the link below!

So excited to see this year’s SBOW. I am currently working on the last block of this month’s Dragonfly Dreams. When I finish those blocks I go back to working on a past SBOW, Twilight Gatherings, until the next wool box arrives. One border done, just 3 more to go. Slowly getting it done.
My goal for summer 2022 is to try and get caught up on PG projects!😂. If Lisa would just quit making such pretty must haves I wouldn’t be so far behind!
I just started working with wool and love it. Looking forward to sitting outside this summer and stitching pennies. Also waiting for your garden gatherings fabric and qal.
Loving these Blockheads blocks! My summer plans will just be to do my best to stay caught up with the sewalongs and BOM’s I am doing….the garden and canning will take over any and all free time!
My biggest project this summer (besides the whole year) is to keep up with Dragonfly Dreams. Just have the 4 blocks we just got to do. So far keeping up. I’d love to come for a retreat at the Gatherings. It’s only 850 miles so I just can’t pop in which I’d love to do.
I was one of the very lucky recipients of this weeks prize drawing from Primitive Gatherings! It just arrived and boy!! am I over excited again —- just as when I first heard I was a winner!!!! Thank you Lisa and Heidi for the wonderful goodies!!! The caramels were hidden out of sight from anyone checking around the prize bundle! I love the book ALL IN A ROW AGAIN from Moda All Stars, the mini charms from Flower Garden Gatherings, numerous fun patches, and then of course the awesome PG sticker!!!! Thank you so much for the surprise that really brightened my whole week!!!!
You are so welcome Diane! Thanks again for supporting PG. We couldn’t do it without the support we get from our devoted customers and fans. It makes OUR day that we made yours! So happy you enjoyed your prize. ~Lisa
I really love this orange you are using. I am always a bit conservative on my colors and need to find that inspiration from others. I still have not started this as I am on the fence about the color choice. One more week of orange and I may be there! For Summer projects, I am concentrating on keeping up with the new SBOM or SBOW…whatever you fancy to call them! 🙂 I also am excited to be getting Garden Gatherings as I just love that line from the photos! And along the way thinking of how I can come to WI to visit as that is on the bucket list.
