MBH4 – Block 8 “Wild Geese”

Hey everyone, happy hump day! Here we go again with another exciting Moda Blockhead Wednesday! Block 8 – “Wild Geese is on the schedule for this week, a fabulous block pattern designed by Kate Spain of kdspain.com. Kate is a graphic artist whose designs can be found on fabric, bedding, pillows, rugs, stationery, gift wrap, calendars, tableware, and a wide variety of other home and lifestyle products. You’ll notice that Kate’s work includes many nature and landscape-based themes and designs. She describes her biggest inspiration as her everyday surroundings, using shapes, colors, and textures from the world around her to create integral and eye-catching fabrics and patterns.

Wild Geese doesn’t stray from Kate’s signature style. It’s easy to see the resemblance of wild geese flying in perfect form within this simple, yet clever design. For my version of Wild Geese I’m sticking with my ongoing color scheme choices and using a bright orange Bella Solid paired up with a mid-level gray floral print on white, and a dark gray tiny print on a mid-gray background for the contrasting pieces – both from my Urban Farmhouse Gatherings II line.

As we are starting to accumulate finished blocks I’m liking this color combination more and more. The bright boldness of the orange seems to push the grayscale elements out, helping them to “take flight” off the background – like a wild goose! LOL! If you’re still contemplating fabric choices for this quilt-along and decide you’d like to do yours like mine, you can find everything you need on our website! As I mentioned earlier in the week Nick and I are still enjoying some time out in Las Vegas with my  friend Val Krueger, but we’ll be back to WI in a few short days. I’m going to do my best to pop in via livestream with Val on Thursday during Stitch with Lisa Bongean,” so be sure to tune in if you want to see what we’re up to. If all goes to plan, Jess will be co-hosting with Val and I as we showcase the stunning collection of Val’s designs in the Primitive Gatherings book, Fun, Friends & Fat Quarters. If you’re a fat quarter fan, this book is definitely for you! All twelve quilts in Fun, Friends & Fat Quarters are designed to use twelve fat quarters each, making them great as scrap busters, or the just perfect excuse to buy new fat quarters of your current favorites! Set your reminders for Thursday at 1:00 PM CST so you don’t miss it. As always, remember to leave me a comment here on the blog and during the LIVE show – who knows, you might win a prize for it… See you Thursday! ~ Lisa

We started to have Vegas weather, but…good ole normal Wisconsin weather kicked in. Dang it’s cold! Anyway, with the drop of 22 degrees, good time spent in sewing room!

Can’t wait to see new quilt ideas! Enjoy your time away.

Fat quarters are my favorite precut so I’ll be looking through the new book. Also, as your blocks are accumulating it’s nice to see how you broke away from your usual colorations & how great the oranges & grays are working. I always leaned toward traditional but lately am being drawn to brights
