Moda Blockheads 4 – Block #11 “Moda Block-Berry”

Hey! I’m back again, rearin’ to go with the next Moda Blockheads 4 block release. This week we’re up to Block 11, Moda Block-Berry.” Jackie MacDonald of Sweetfire Road designed this super-cute block in honor of summertime’s arrival. Jackie says that picking berries is one of her all-time favorite warm-weather activities so she wanted to make her block, “a little sweet and a little bit fruity to celebrate the beginning of summer.” Her enthusiasm for this project inspired Jackie to quilt her sample as a wall hanging – and because this is her first Moda Blockheads design, she then hung it in her office to celebrate becoming an official Blockhead! Cool! She plans to make a bunch more, both for her Blockheads quilt and also to create a fun summer table runner project! You can find the instructions and full pattern for Moda Block-Berryby visiting Jackie’s blog!

This block might seem a little intimidating at first if you’re not used to working with smaller pieces, but don’t be scared! It’s really not as bad as it seems. In fact, Jackie intended for this block to be beginner-friendly because she is a beginner herself! I had a lot of fun putting this one together. For my fabrics I chose a variety of grayscale colors and prints, including a nearly black floral print on a super dark gray background, tiny mid-gray print on white, a light gray floral on dark gray background and mixed in some mostly white squares as well.

The stylish gray-scale fabrics are all from my Urban Farmhouse Gatherings II line, which you can find by clicking the button below! If you like the way I pieced my block together and want to do the same, you can also usually find the orange color I’m using in the shop, (“Ochre“) which is a bright Bella Solid. We are currently sold out of “Ochre” but have it on order so it should be in stock soon!
