Hey everyone! It’s Blockhead time again. “Evening Delight“ is on the showroom floor today, and is brought to us by Debbie Maddy of Tiori Designs. Debbie is an avid garment seamstress as well as a quilter. She enjoys all crafts involving needle and thread, and has years of experience in embroidery, appliqué, needlepoint, pulled thread, and drawn thread work to name a few. Debbie has been quilting for over 35 years and pattern designing for 15. She has also been a teacher/lecturer for 20 years (both in-person and online) and has been featured on national television! Her most recent endeavors have been in fabric and fiber dyeing of all kinds, but especially Shibori and Indigo. In order to learn to try and master the Shibori and indigo dyeing techniques to the best of her abilities, she has studied under some of the most prestigious artists in Japan, England and the US. So awesome!
Debbie designed “Evening Delight“ based on quarter-square triangles. She describes QST as one of her favorite methods because she loves the way they show off the individual fabrics used in a design. She also enjoys the simplicity they provide when putting together her blocks. This is a super fun block to make and I know you’re anxious to get started. If you’ve been following along with my progress through this quilt-along, you know that because of my travels last week I wasn’t able to post the photo evidence that I actually really do have Block #12 complete. I know how the suspense must have been killing you, so wait no longer… Here are my finished versions of both Block #12 “Friendship Star,” and Block #13, “Evening Delight.”
As you can see I kept “Friendship Star” fairly simple, pairing a gray tiny print for the outer triangles and a cream square with navy anchors for the center. For “Evening Delight“ I decided to go with a black and light gray tiny print for the outer star portion of the block. For the inner triangles, I wanted to mix it up a little so I went with black lattice on mid-gray tiny print. For the center square I did kind of a 180º and chose white, sprinkled with a simple dark gray print. Both blocks have an orange Bella Solid background. All of my grayscale fabric choices for these blocks came from my Urban Farmhouse Gatherings II line, which you can find by clicking the button below! If you like the way I pieced my blocks together and want to do the same, you can also usually find the orange color I’m using in the shop, (“Ochre“) which is a bright Bella Solid. We are currently sold out of “Ochre” but have it on order so it should be in stock soon!
Remember, if you’re just joining us for MBH4 and need previously released blocks, you can find them by visiting the Moda Blockheads 4 Archive. You can also locate the archive in the main menu at the top of my blog page. In addition, bonus blocks can be found on Moda’s Inspiration+Resources Center page by clicking HERE! If you’re having trouble keeping all the details straight you can also sign-up to receive Moda’s weekly Blockheads blog posts via e-mail at the Inspiration+Resources Center as well.
I hope everyone is staying cool and dry with all this crazy weather going on. We’re supposed to see some nasty storms later on today, so it sounds like my plans to get some biking in this evening are going to be on hold. That’s probably a good thing though, since the heat index is nearly 100° and I wasn’t really trying to have a heat stroke today. LOL! There’s always tomorrow. Speaking of tomorrow, don’t miss me LIVE on YouTube at 1:00PM during “Stitch with Lisa Bongean.” I’m excited to say that I’ll be doing a little trunk show on my newest fabric line, “Autumn Gatherings.” This line doesn’t have a specific project book but there are several individual projects that go along with it to talk about. These gorgeous flannels are not yet in our shop to purchase, but not to worry. “Autumn Gatherings” is already on sale and available to pre-order for a limited time! You can check them out by clicking HERE!
Alright everyone, it’s about that time…but before I go I want to say that I really appreciate the wonderful comments you all have been leaving me here on the blog. It means a lot to me! I love hearing about your progress and what you’re up to, which is why I love to give prizes to those who participate! This week the shout-out goes to Cyndy L. and Sharon C! Please check your emails for your official prize notification. As usual, I am not posting last names or email addresses for your privacy, so if you think you’re one of these lucky winners please check your email! Okie dokie, back to work! I have a lot to do before all heck breaks loose later with the storms coming in. It sounds like it could get really interesting! I will see you all tomorrow at 1:00PM CST for “Stitch with Lisa Bongean!” Set your timers now and tune in by hitting the STITCH button below! See you there. ~Lisa
