Freaky Friday!

Hey friends, welcome back! You probably read the title to this post and thought, what makes today Freaky? Well, nothing really aside from the fact that it is raining, icing, and snowing yet again out there – when in my humble weather expert opinion, it should at least be above freezing on a daily basis by now… It’s practically April! If I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again – I’m sick of all the slop and I am ready to let winter go for another year. All I can say is, at least I can stay indoors where it’s warm and cozy, and stitch until the storm passes. God knows I have plenty to work on so I’m treating this stitching opportunity as a blessing in disguise.

For those of you also stuck in the path of this stitching “SLOPpertunity,” I’ve got just the thing for you to work on over the weekend. As you know, along with Friday comes a new Sewcialites 2 block release and this Friday is no different. This week we celebrate Block #22,Ohio Twist by Jessica Dayon. Before she became a quilter, Jessica began her career with a background in science. She holds a degree in Biology and Biochemistry, but decided to go another route after her fourth child came into the world. She began teaching herself how to quilt with a table runner project back in 2017, and fell in love with the craft almost immediately. After only one month of quilting under her belt, Jessica ambitiously began designing her own patterns, and eventually went on to write and design several quilting books as well. Also in 2017, Jessica became a Moda Bake Shop Chef, and continues to actively design for them today.

Jessica likes to select patterns and styles that challenge her creative mind. Ohio Twistis a little bit more of a complicated block but it’s actually very simple to look at. The block consists of four half-square triangles with corner squares, four hour glass units, and a super simple center square. It may look intimidating but don’t be discouraged. Ohio Twistis a very doable block, especially if you follow along with Kimberly Jolly’s video tutorial on YouTube where she will walk you through making it step by step (you can find the landing page link below!).The first step in making this block is making the half-square triangle units. As always I suggest using my custom designed PG Triangle Paper to make things easier for yourself. Remember, if your triangle paper stash is running low you can always stock up on the PG website by clicking the button below. Hopefully by now you know that for my blocks I’m using my Garden Gatherings fabric line, leaving out the five tans. For this block I chose to go with a gold floral print on a dark purple background in the center, paired with a white tulip print on pink, and a white ditsy floral print on deep red. For the background I used a selection from the Garden Gathering Shirtings Collection, #49176 15 – a cream fabric with an adorable tiny mustard/orange floral print. Take a look!Purdy, ain’t she? As I mentioned above, if you’re having any trouble with this block at all be sure to watch Kimberly Jolly’s full tutorial on how to go about it by visiting the Sewcialites 2 landing page by clicking the button below.

Well gang, it’s getting to be about that time. The sun was just out for about ten minutes… You know, just long enough to confuse everyone before hiding itself behind the clouds for another round of sleet/rain/snow/ice rain. Yay. I need to swing over to the retreat house before I hit the road for home and by the sound of the rain and sleet on the roof at this moment, I feel like this is about to get interesting. I’m definitely going to have to make a run for it! Wish me luck… Before I go I have some prizes to give away to a couple of my loyal readers who left me nice comments last week. Special thanks to Mary Jane P. and Karen K.! You are my lucky winners this week. Please remember to check your email for a message from Heidi (Note: I do not post last names or email addresses for your privacy, so if you think you’re one of the lucky winners this week please be sure to check your email. Lisa, remember the old saying that spring will come after it has snowed 3 times on the Robin’s back. I think this must be the third time. I’m sick of it too!! I’m ready to plant some pansies.

Hi. I just wanted to say that I saw you yesterday on the comment sold live, and you are looking fabulous! Whatever you’ve been doing is on point. Keep it up. The presentation was done well also. I appreciated that the number of items was kept minimal and time between each seemed more than adequate and you kept it moving along. Once again, you’re awesome, both personally and professionally. Take care!

Your block is so pretty! I would have never thought of putting the orange print with those colors, but it definitely works!

I love watching Jessica sew. She is so effortless. I knew she was self-taught, but not that she’d been doing it only 6 years. Remarkable!

Talking about winter weather… Utah has broke snow total records over 800 inches at the ski resorts. I’m just thankful I didn’t get that much at my house, I love to shovel snow but not quite that much🤣

I’m sorry it is still not springy in Wisconsin! However, I’m sure it makes it easier to stay inside and sew! Last night I starched my Jolly Basics mini charm pack and Buttercup and Slate charm pack from a past quilt box along with 2 yds of cream fabric. I am hoping to get started on the patterns which came with the box. This is my second time starching fabric. It is easy and it really does make a difference. Right now I am experimenting with different brands I find here in Qatar. So far so good!

I’m also way, way over this Wisconsin weather!! Love the new word, “slopertunity”. I need to take full advantage of these blessings in disguise. Wishing you a great week ahead!

Yes, winter is still hanging on! However in Illinois, Friday afternoon and evening we had Tornado Warnings and Watches all day with HIGH winds too! I think I can handle the snow coming down a lot easier than the Tornado Warning and Watches and unable to see Tornadoes at night! Your block is so beautiful! Love your choice of colors, Lisa! Thank you for showing your Sewcialites 2 Blocks. Looking forward to the next few blocks and your layout! Have a great weekend!

This Ohio Twist really is a lovely twist on one of my most favorite traditional block right along with the churn dash. Love the red and orange combo of the garden gatherings fabric too. First time hearing about commentsold too. I’m registered and ready to make a
