Twilight Stars Quilt – Along Block Release Four

Hey everyone! Welcome back to another Friday of fun here at Primitive Gatherings! If you’re anything like my crew and I, your brain is probably still focused on fireworks, fun, and backyard BBQ’s after the long weekend. But you know me… Despite all the wonderful distractions of the holiday, work managed to reel me into the studio for the last couple of days to get a few things done before the weekend sets in again. The majority of my day yesterday was designated for our usual LIVE shows but as you might have seen, unfortunately CommentSold was having technical issues on their end that were beyond our control, so we had to cancel our usual Thursday sale. The good news is, as a result of the snafu over in CommentSold Land, there isn’t a lot of brainwork required to set up our next broadcast, since it’s literally sitting in the studio ready to go as we speak. I like it! As of right now, our next CommentSold sale will be at our usual time this coming Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. CST. I’ll be hosting since the theme just so happens to be one of my most favorite topics – wool appliqué! Whether you’ve been doing wool appliqué for years or are just starting to learn, join me! I’ll share my best tips, tricks, and favorite tools of the trade. Never know – you might learn something!

Though it seems kind of strange to be on the verge of another weekend already, I’ll take it! And honestly, the faster I can get done with the things that I MUST do today, the better. I’m in the middle of preparing for “Anchor Point Weekend” – an annual summer family get-together that I host at my house every year where my family all comes and parties it up at my place for a few days. Sounds like fun, right? Oh, and it is… I look forward to it every year, but you know how it is when company is coming – there’s always a lot to get done in a little bit of time! So that being said, I better get this show on the road!

Since it’s Friday, one of the main boxes I need to tick for the day is the fourth block release for the Twilight Stars Quilt-Along, so here we go! This week’s block numbers for the Twilight Stars Quilt-Along are #’s 47 and 79! If you’ve been following along you know, patterns for these blocks are located in my book, Triangle Gatherings (required to participate in the QAL along with a few other items), which can be purchased on our website by clicking HERE. New to the quilt-along? A blog post I did explaining the full details on Twilight Stars can be found by clicking HERE. The full list of details and required supplies can be found at the Twilight Stars Info Page by hitting the button below!

Are you having fun yet? I sure am! Now that we’re a few weeks in and I can lay multiple finished blocks out next to one another, I can tell that my initial vision was a good one and that this quilt is going to turn out even better than I imagined! Thank you to everyone who has been sharing their work on social media – I love seeing all the varieties of fabric and color ways. It’s always interesting to see what other people like vs what I do. As far as my own blocks go, I’m using my Rustic Gatherings fabric line combined with Jackie MacDonald’s Halloween-themed collection, SpellboundBoth lines feature color palettes including rusty oranges and rich blacks, along with some nice grey selections from Rustic that go together almost like they were designed to be paired.

Have you tried my Primitive Gatherings Triangle Paper yet? If not you must be having a real field-day with of all the half-square triangles this quilt involves… I mean, go without if you insist, but trust me – there’s an easier way!!! If you’re new to using triangle paper or never have before, I obviously highly recommend them. Need help getting started? Follow my list of tips and tricks to help you get going in the right direction:

Aside from half-square triangles, flying geese seem to have caused a lot of you some grief so as promised, I went over a few pointers on how to get them to turn out better during my LIVE show yesterday on STITCH with Lisa Bongean. If you missed it you can always watch the replay by hitting the STITCH icon at the end of the post (start video at 21:10 for conversation on Twilight Stars). During the video I show off all my finished blocks so far, and go over a few QAL details including how to win prizes, including a grand prize at the end! This week I’m happy to announce that Fran H. was our latest prize winner for simply posting a photo of her completed blocks that week, along with the required book, Triangle Gatherings and Primitive Gatherings Triangle Paper included in the picture with the hashtag #TwilightStarsQAL!

All this talk of prize winners reminds me that I haven’t given any prizes out to my blog commenters for a while so I think it’s about time that I do! I love seeing your comments and read every single one of them – even if it does take me a while to get to them all sometimes! Please, keep them coming – I’ll see them eventually! Special thanks to JoAnn W. and Teresa S. for their comments on the blog in the last week or two – I appreciate it more than you know, which is why you have something special coming your way (remember, I do not post last names or email addresses for your privacy, so if you think you’re one of the lucky winners this week please be sure to check your email. You can also contact Heidi at heidin@primitivegatherings.us if you have not already received a prize confirmation letter from her. If you think you are a winner but have not received a prize confirmation email, be sure to check your spam folder – it’s not often but our emails will sometimes end up there)!!!

Well everyone, I think that’s about all I have for you today. I hope your weekend is a good one and that you find time to relax and of course, STITCH! I will do my best to take some photos of our family shenanigans but no promises. It’s way too easy to get caught up in all the fun and those crazy grand-boys of mine and the camera isn’t always the first thing on my mind but I’ll do my best! Take care, be safe, and I’ll see you all next week. Bye for now! ~Lisa

Lisa just love your You Tube videos. You are always giving help and hints to make our sewing experience easier. Great to go back and watch when I need to review something. I am just getting started on Twilight Stars. Just love how the blocks are turning out! Starching and triangle paper are the keys to success.

I wasn’t sure I would like making these blocks because it seemed like such a big commitment; however, the triangle papers and searching my fabric has made it so much easier and my blocks are turning out to be the right size. Yesterday I had to by more spray starch! 🤣🤣🤣

Thank you for continuing to provide guidance for those of us who are struggling. I am only speaking for myself, but typically when something doesn’t work it’s user error. 😖😝

I’m excited to try these new blocks. Each time it gets a little bit easier. Thanks for you flying geese tips yesterday during the live. I am hopeful the tips will help get my piecing more accurate.

Lisa I so look forward to your blog. It certainly keeps me motivated and enthusiastic about what I’m stitching on. I’m so enjoying Fresh Garden. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed embroidering. I love the vibrant colors and appliquéing the wool. Wool has to be one of my very favorite textiles. Thanks again for all that you do. Planning a stay at the Gathering in 2024. ❤️

Week 4 here I come! I will master the small triangles this week. I am so use to a scant quarter inch that my blocks finish too large and I lose the points. NO MORE… I got this 😁. Thank you Lisa for the continuous encouragement for all of us. ❤️

Anchor Point Weekend sounds wonderful! Please tell us more. (When you have calmed down after the frenzy!) I’m “sew” looking forward to Tuesday’s Comment Sold. I have become an avid wool “appliqué-er!” I’m always interested in learning new tips and tricks. Thank you for the new app! It makes it very easy to purchase your great products! Enjoy your weekend! 😊❤️😊

Lisa do you ever slow down? Sound like you are having a great summer. Actually saw Rustic Gatherings minus the lights(they are lost at Fed Ex for about a month). I love the prints and colors.
    Have a great week

As always, thanks for keeping it real. I love your quilt slings. I love the challenge of smaller blocks, knowing that I will not be perfect but hopefully better than the block before. I am using the ruler from garden gatherings to square up the flying geese because why not get use out of it! Thanks again!

I wanted to thank you and Luke for your comments on the “Live” show. I’m struggling with a simple 1/4 seam. All of my projects turn out 1/4 too small. I do all the stuff-starch, pin, diagonal tape, 1/4 foot. I get very frustrated and walk away for weeks. I don’t want to “ruin” anymore fabric. Like you both said I beat myself up, I want it to be perfect. So I’m headed back to the machine with you and Luke encouraging me. I hope to make it to a retreat this year to Thank you in person. Cindy B.

Fun to watch this week’s Live with Lisa and hear all about the trip! Hopefully this weekend I can tackle this SAL. Not sure what exactly happened a week ago as the days literally flew by, but the good news is that fabrics are cut and ready to sew. Have a good weekend.

Lisa, thank you so much for helping me last week get my joyful gatherings order in. You stopped what you were doing while you were away in Dallas to help me get this order in via Facebook. That was so very kind of you and I really do appreciate it a lot! You are the exactly what a store owner should be like and we all appreciate everything you do for us all the time! Thank you again! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
