Dear Santa… What’s the HO HO HOldup!?

Are you anxiously waiting for the arrival of my latest Christmas fabric line, “Dear Santa,“ due to be delivered from Moda this month? Me too! It won’t be long before the big man himself will arrive here at Primitive Gatherings, toting a fresh collection of simple red and cream fabrics that offer a “sledload” of creative inspiration and charm – just in time for summer! We all know that there’s no better time to start thinking about starting projects you’d like to have finished by the holidays… Conveniently enough, the line includes nine coordinating red and cream prints featuring stars, stripes, and polkadots, along with a nostalgic Redwork Santa panel that can be turned into a variety of different festive projects for Christmas.

If you know me at all then you know that red and white quilts are definitely one of my all-time favorites, so I’m especially antsy to see “Dear Santa “ arrive here in the next few weeks. As with most of my fabric lines, I also have a project book based on “Dear Santa “ ready to rock along with it, so watch for that coming soon as well. Projects include eight fantastic red and cream quilts ranging from medium to large. Each has a festive red and white “candy cane” feel, however because the prints are not holiday/Christmas specific, they can be used for several types of projects all year round!

In addition to the projects in the book, as I mentioned “Dear Santa“ also includes a jolly vintage Santa panel that measures 36″ x 44″. It can be used to make a fast and easy quilt simply by adding borders. Feeling ambitious? Add additional quilt blocks and voila! You have a more “advanced” version to add to your holiday décor. The amount of work you want to put into it can be your little secret… It’s all up to you!

You might recall that when I first announced that “Dear Santa “ was on its way, I anticipated an arrival date of early to mid-May. Well, dang it – here we are in Mid-may and we still haven’t seen it yet. While that’s kind of a bummer for us – and everyone that’s already ordered – it’s also a perk for those of you who haven’t taken advantage of the discounted price we’re offering while “Dear Santa “ is still on pre-order. To make up for the delay, we will be leaving it at the current listed pre-order price of 20% off pre-cuts and 15% off kits until it officially arrives in our warehouse in the next few weeks. After that, it will be listed as full price! What does that mean for you? It means if you’re still thinking about ordering and haven’t yet, get on it! I have zero clue when it will arrive, which means it could literally be tomorrow! Grab yours before the price goes up by clicking HERE!

I hope to see you all tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. CST on my YouTub channel, STITCH with Lisa Bongean for a little catch-up session. I can’t wait to tell you all about my week with Darci up in Mackinac Island at the Quilting Art Seminar! After that, in honor of our upcoming 2024 Blue & White Quilt Show, I want to get your minds thinking in shades of blue and white so I’ll be sharing some of my personal antique quilt collection for a special antique blue and white bed turning! It’s going to be a blast as always, so tune in! I do have one announcement before I sign off for the day and that is, unfortunately our CommentSold super star Jess is still under the weather so there will be NO episode of CommentSold tomorrow – Thursday, May 16th, 2024. We’re hoping she’ll be back in the saddle come Monday – we’ll let you know! Either way, I will see you tomorrow. Have a wonderful night! ~Lisa

    Hello Lisa,

Thanks for the update. Two questions: #1. Santa Tracks kit does not show on sale?? #2. What backing/stabilizer was used for your Dear Santa panel sample quilt? I have preordered the one yard bundle and the panel but not sure what stabilzer to use, I want to hand stitch the Santa.

Thanks!!! BTW, I was able to visit Primitive Gatherings Quilt Store for the first time and it’s absolutely beautiful. Your staff was exceptionally nice.

Hi Kim! The price listed on the website for “Santa Tracks” is the pre-order price. Once it arrives the price will be higher. As far as the backing/stabilizer goes for Dear Santa I used Pellon Fusible Interfacing Featherweight 911FF.

Thanks for posting all the quilts that are in the Dear Santa book. Santa Tracker is my favorite! Brings back memories of watching the weather radar on Christmas Eve.

What color and manufacturer of thread did you use to embroider the santa panel?

I absolutely love the “Santa I can explain” quilt. I’ve got my panel, but I’m wondering what stitch you used to hand embroider over Santa?

    1. lisabongean Avatar

Hi Diana! I used a regular stem stitch.
