Unity Quilt-Along Fabric UPDATE!

Are you planning to participate in the 2025 Primitive Gatherings Unity Quilt-Along? If you said yes – or even if you’re just thinking about it – this post is for you! In case you don’t already know, the Unity Quilt-Along will be a year-long project that starts in January of 2025. It’s a free block of the week that will be super scrappy and include a TON of both light and dark half-square triangles (my fave!), lots of color, and will be 98″ x 98″ when finished. I also thought this would be a great opportunity to do another one of my famous “mystery” quilts, which means you will not know exactly what the finished project will look like until it all comes together in the very end!

Now don’t worry, I realize it’s scary to jump into a year-long quilting commitment without knowing what the final piece will look like, but hopefully by now you know that you can trust me. I would never let you sacrifice the blood sweat and tears that it takes to make something that I didn’t have 100% confidence in. What I WILL tell you about this quilt is, whether you are using your own fabric or you’re planning to use our kits, you will need a total of seven yards background fabric either way.

To make things easy for you, I am offering three background fabrics to choose from. They are available to pre-order now on a first come, first served basis by clicking the buttons below! And just so you know… Due to high demand, a couple of these fabrics have sold out once already, so we placed a second order to replenish the stash we don’t even have yet! That being said, if you have your heart set on using one of the background fabrics I’m offering, don’t wait! Grab as much as you think you’ll need while you can. Remember, this is available on a first come, first serve basis and when it’s gone – it’s gone!!! We will not be making a third order once this batch sells out. Please keep in mind that if you would like to make your quilt larger or with borders, you will need to purchase more fabric based on what you think you’ll need!

For those of you who have never done a quilt-along before but have always wanted to give it a try, now’s your chance! This is the perfect opportunity to take on a larger scale project alongside a whole group of people who are working on the same thing at relatively the same pace. It’s a wonderful resource in case you have issues or need advice, that comes complete with your own personal cheer team leading you through til the end. Plus, there’s prizes… Give it a shot! You have plenty of time between now and start time to gather your supplies organize, and set up shop, so there’s no excuse there… Join us! It’ll be fun, challenging, and you’ll have one heck of a quilt to show off for it in the end. We’ll keep you on track, I promise!

When ordering your background fabric, you will be charged a non-refundable reservation price of $2.00 per yard. The remaining balance ($11.00 per yard) will be charged when the fabric is shipped to you. We are hoping for a tentative ship date of 02/24/25. That being said, we appreciate your patience in the event there are delays from our vendors, which is annoying, and inconvenient, and totally out of our control, but it does happen from time to time. Of course, we’ll keep you up to date if anything changes. PLEASE NOTE: The links above are for the Background fabric ONLY! If you do not have enough fabric in your stash for this project don’t worry! We will also be offering monthly kits for $25.00 each. Kits will contain 5″ squares of 72 fabrics – half will be light, half will be dark. Sign up will be available soon!

Don’t forget! You’ll also need triangle paper for this quilt-along to help make the few bazillion half-square triangles that you’re about to make a little bit easier! You will need eight packs of Primitive Gatherings 1″ Triangle Paper for Charms for the project, which you can order on our website by clicking HERE!

Are you excited yet? I know I am. I love new projects and can’t wait to ring in 2025 with this brand new quilt-along! The more people quilting along, the better so, who’s with me? Are YOU in for the long haul? Let me know what your plans are for the Unity Quilt-Along in the comments – even if you’re not planning to participate. That’s ok too. LOL!

Before I head out for what promises to be a beautiful Autumn weekend here in WI, I want to take a second to say thank you to all of my readers for taking the time out of your day to ready my blog, especially those of you who bother to leave comments at the end. I truly do love reading them and look forward to it every week so please, keep them coming! Of course, a little bit of incentive never hurts… Remember, if you leave a comment, you’ve automatically earned a chance to win a prize for your thoughts. It’s easy! Just ask carinmik84 and Sybilla S., who will both be getting something nice in the mail for theirs (if you think you are a winner, please check your email)! Thanks you two. Now, off to start the weekend! Happy stitching, everyone! ~Lisa

I can’t wait to start on the Unity quilt-a-long!! Your triangle paper makes it so much easier to piece the 1″ triangles. I’m still undecided about the background but will try to decide soon. Thanks so much for offering this quilt -a-long. Love all of your quilts and projects!

I am so excited about this! I live in SE Iowa, and I need something to look forward to during that bleak part of winter that is after the holidays but before spring. (You know when the days are super short and totally gray?) Will we need the triangle papers to try for prizes? I have damaged a tendon in my hand and am struggling with my rotary cutter. I do have an Accuquilt die that will work, but will that disqualify me for Heidi’s prize patrol? Ugh! I wish I had appreciated my hand more when it was working!

    1. lisabongean Avatar

Hi, Brenda! I’m sorry to hear about your hand!!! Since this is a free quilt-along, we try to make a little money from selling triangle papers, kits for the blocks, and backgrounds. If you have purchased any one of these options, you will qualify for prizes. Heal fast!!!

Looking forward to this! So my question would be what if we start off using our own stash for the half square triangles and then decide we want to use some of what you’re kitting? Can we sign up midway through the project for the charms?

    1. lisabongean Avatar

Hi, Cassi! Unfortunately, you cannot sign up midway, and we cannot do partials but please don’t let this stop you! Remember you’re getting a lot a lot of fabric, so I would buy these even if I wasn’t doing the quilt just to have all those different fabrics. I do not like purging my fabrics looking for a five or 6 in out of every one of them. It’s too much hassle to unfold them all, which is why we do the kits for your convenience.

This sounds like a fun project!!! If I choose to use the $25/month charm packs-do the charm packs include the background fabric (since there are darks and lights in the pack)? Thank you for sharing your creativity with such a fun project!!

Hi Lisa. I truly am so excited to participate in the Unity Quilt-Along. The idea of all those different fabrics coming together to make such a wonderful project! I know it’s gotta be good since you are working so hard to pull this all together for us. I can’t imagine what it must take, you must work around the clock. I feel so blessed every Thursday, when you pull us all out of our hectic routines, and bring us together in your comfortable part of the world, giving us all the opportunity to share and laugh. You don’t know how many ways you touch all of our lives. The name of this Quilt-Along is perfect!
Bringing us all together in Unity. It is what you do best.

Curious on how big each square is going to be when completed.
Also do we not need the backing in the squares since it is not going to be shipped until the end of February?

    1. lisabongean Avatar

Hi, Beverly! It’s a mystery so I don’t wanna give too much away. I will tell you that it’s nothing super big and nothing really tiny. We are working with 1 inch half-square triangles. Regarding the background, you will not need it for a while. There is plenty of sewing for us to do until our main background arrives.
